THOMASVILLE - Zebulon Vance Kindley, 95, of 1327 Ross Wood Road, Trinity, died Friday, April 4, 2003, in High Point Regional Hospital.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Family Funeral Care, Thomasville, with the Rev. Ray Swaney officiating. Burial will be at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery.
He was a native of Randolph County, the widower of Ola Roanna Hancock Kindley, a retired employee of Masonite Fabricators, a former employee with Carolina Seating and of the Methodist faith.
Surviving are daughters, Judy Kindley of the home, Uavah York of Asheboro, JoAnn Loflin of Thomasville; sons, Ernest Kindley of Asheboro, Michael Kindley of Trinity, Hubert Kindley of Lexington; 18 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.
The family will be at the funeral home 6-8 p.m. Saturday.

MT. GILEAD - Evah Jane Josephine Carpenter Lathan, 76, of Vancie Drive, died Wednesday, April 2, 2003, at FirstHealth Montgomery Memorial Hospital, Troy.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Wadeville A.M.E. Zion Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Dewey Rudisell officiating. Burial will be in Bruton Cemetery, Wadeville.
She was a native of Montgomery County, the widow of John Henry Lathan, a graduate of Peabody High School, Troy, and Livingstone College, Salisbury, and received her Masters Degree in Science Education at NC A&T State College. She was a retired educator of 30 years who taught in Rutherfordton, and was the pianist and a member of the Women's & Home Missionary Society at her church.
Surviving are son, Ronnie E. Carpenter of Wadeville; daughter, Gay L. Neal of Rock Hill, S.C.; sister, Virginia Lilly of Wadeville; two grandchildren.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Randolph memorial Park.
She was a native of St. Paul, N.C., and was retired from Technimark where she was an inspector.
Surviving are husband, Calvin C. Johnson of Randleman, sisters, Hazel Hall of Randleman and Annie N. Gilbert of Newnam, Ga.

He was a Moore County native and a member of Coleridge Lions Clubs. He was a former trustee at his church and retired from Weimen Furniture in Ramseur.
Surviving are wife, Charlene Brown Welch of the home; brothers, Worthy Welch of Seagrove, Eli Junior Welch of Robbins; Sisters, Thelma Davis and Pauline Frye, both of Robbins.

She was a native of Randolph County, the widow of Frank Farlow, a former folder at Klaussner Furniture and attended Crestview Wesleyan Church.

SEAGROVE - Melvin Lee Owens, 85, of 3756 Busbee Road, died Saturday, April 5, 2003, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.

He was a native of Moore County and the widower of Marie Garner Owens. He was a retired Master Potter, former pottery shop owner and a former builder of electric potter wheels and kilns for himself and area potters. He received a North Carolina Folk Heritage Award in 2000.
Surviving are sons, Bobby Owens, Vernon Owens, Boyd Owens; daughters, Hilda O. Peterson of Durham, Lula O. Bolick, Ina O. Bolick, both of Blowing Rock, Nancy O. Brewer; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren.

CARTHAGE - Earl Morgan Moore, 78, of 350 Bingham St., died Sunday, April 6, 2003, at his home.
Funeral service will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. David Coffey officiating. Burial, with military honors, will be in the church cemetery.
He was a native of Marion County, S.C., a World War II U.S. Marine Corps veteran and a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of Carthage Lodge 181 A F & A M, Chapter 154 Order of the Eastern Star and Joseph G. Henson Post 12 of the American Legion. He was a former owner of Carthage Western Auto Store, a salesman for Bill Smith Ford, Lincoln-Mercury in Southern Pines and a former employee of Moore Appliance in Aberdeen.
Surviving are wife, Geraldine Prescott Moore; daughters, Susan Jackson of Apex, Sheree Kelly of Carthage; sons, David Moore of N. Augusta, S.C., Bill M. Moore of Pinehurst, Michael Moore of Ellerbe, Stephen P. Moore of Aberdeen; brothers, J. A. "Jim" Moore of Fork, S.C., Don A. Moore of Wilmington; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

ASHEBORO - Dr. George Gerhard Oleen, 90, of 4589 Old Lexington Road, Asheboro, died Monday, April 7, 2003, at his home.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Ralph Kraft and the Rev. W. Russell Ward Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park with military honors.
He was a native of Ashtubula, Ohio, a graduate of the University of Kansas Medical School, and served his internship at N.C. Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem. He practiced family medicine in Monroe where he also served as Chief of Staff at Union Memorial Hospital. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, a member of the Monroe City School Board and one of the founding members of the Union County Saddle Club. He was a member the Mecklenburg Hounds Hunt Club, a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and attended First Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are wife, Katie Mae Oleen; daughters, Katie Mae Oleen-Norton of Little Rock, S.C., Beverly O. Shiflet of Asheboro; sons, George Gerhard Oleen Jr. of Newport News, Va., Dr. Edward Luther Oleen of Albany, Ga., David Otto Oleen of Charleston, S.C., Charles Larson Oleen of Waycross, Ga.; sisters, Edna Barrett of Kansas City, Mo., Ida Tucker of Nebraska; 10 grandchildren.
