RALEIGH - Helen Dowell Taylor died Friday, May 30, 2003.

Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, Raleigh, with Dr. David Haley officiating.

She was a native of Raleigh and the widow of Jack L. Taylor. A graduate of Hugh Morson High School, she attended N.C. State University.

Surviving are daughter, Jacquelyn T. Chewning of Asheboro; son, Jack L. Taylor Jr. of Wake Forest; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home following the service.

Elizabeth H. Tuttle
NEWARK, Del. - Elizabeth "Libby" H. Tuttle, 86, died Thursday, May 29, 2003, at her home.

Burial will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Bear, Del. Memorial service will be 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, Brookside, Del.

She was formerly of Asheboro and the widow of Ralph E. Seltzer Jr. and William A. Tuttle. She graduated from Capital City School of Nursing, Washington, D.C., as an RN, was a World War II U.S. Army Nursing Corps veteran and a retired RN of the VA Hospital in Elsmere. She attended St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, Brookside, Del. She was a past volunteer with the Girl Scouts, Meals on Wheels and transporting cancer patients. She was one of the first female members of the V.F.W. and a member of the New Century Club and senior center in Newark, Del.

Surviving are son, Thomas L. Seltzer of Colorado; daughters, Ann S. Alexander of Dover, Del., Dorothy L. Reader and Linda Seltzer, both of Wilmington, Del.; sister, Clarice Brower of North Carolina; brothers, Alfred Henley and Joseph Henley, both of California; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

Torbert Funeral Home, Dover, Del., is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials be made to St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, Marrows Road, Newark, Del., or the American Red Cross, 100 W. 10th St., Suite 501, Wilmington, Del. 19801.

Angus W. Bonkemeyer
ASHEBORO - Angus W. Bonkemeyer, 96, of 906 Hub Morris Road, died Saturday, May 31, 2003, at his home.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Steve Wood and Malcolm Laughlin officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

He was a native of Randolph County and a dairy farmer. He ran Greenleaf Nursery, previously worked at Sullivan Wood Works and was a member of Giles Chapel United Methodist Church.

Surviving are daughter, Charlcie B. Whatley of Randleman; sons, Willis A. Bonkemeyer and Lewis J. Bonkemeyer, both of Randleman; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-8:30 p.m. Monday.

Henry T. Steed
GREENSBORO - Henry Thurman Steed, 88, died Friday, May 30, 2003, at his home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home, Vanstory Chapel, Greensboro. Burial will be in Guilford Memorial Park.

He was a native of Guilford County, the widower of Marguerite Moore Steed and a member of Asbury United Methodist Church. He was a retired salesman with Western Auto after 35 years and a member of the Million Dollar Club for top salesmen. He later worked at Phipps and Southside Hardware Stores.

Surviving are son, Robert Lee Steed of Pleasant Garden; daughters, Joyce S. Ferrell of Climax, Martha S. Crump of Raleigh; brother, Winfred Jack Steed of Morehead City; four grandchildren; one great-grandson.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Monday.

Cynthia B. Edwards
DENTON - Cynthia Bradshaw Edwards, 63, of 11861 South, N.C. 150, Linwood, died Saturday, May 31, 2003, at Golden Age Nursing Home in Lexington.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at High Rock Baptist Church, with the Rev. Sam Harvey officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Davidson County, a former employee of Rowan Regional Medical Center in Salisbury and a member of Christian Baptist Church.

Surviving are husband, Ralph Edwards of the home; sister, Mary Lou Owens of Denton; brothers, David Bradshaw of Denton, Bill Bradshaw of Madison, James Bradshaw of Danville, Va.; two grandchildren.

The family will be at Briggs Funeral Home, Denton, 6:30-8 p.m. Monday, other times at the home.

Esther H. Frazier
SILER CITY - Esther Hayes Frazier, 80, died Saturday, May 31, 2003, at UNC Hospitals, Chapel Hill.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Monday at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, with the Rev. Billy Jo Brady officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Christian Church Cemetery.

She was a native of Chatham County and a homemaker. She attended Community Baptist Church.

Surviving are sons, Richard Frazier of Coleridge, Ted Frazier of Bear Creek, Steve Frazier of Ramseur; daughters, Frances Lee, Virginia Kidd, Fay Keller, all of Siler City, Kay Brown of Coleridge; brother, Doc Hayes of Siler City; sisters, Mary Frazier and Edith Oates, both of Siler City; 17 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 1:30-2:30 p.m. Monday.

BEAR CREEK - Grace Williamson, 91, of 204 Hoyt Scott Road, died Sunday, June 1, 2003, at SunBridge Care & Rehabilitation of Siler City.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, with the Rev. Jeff Moran officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery.

She was a native of Moore County, a homemaker and a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church.

Surviving are sisters, Blanche W. Cox of Bear Creek, Cora W. Cox of Coleridge.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-8:30 p.m. Monday.

Leah P. Spencer
CARTHAGE - Leah Price Spencer, 82, of 304 McReynolds St., died Sunday, June 1, 2003, at her home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Carthage United Methodist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Terry Huffines and the Rev. Lovell Ailes officiating. Burial will be in Cross Hill Cemetery.

She was a native of Cresco, Pa., a graduate of Westchester College, Westover, Pa., and a retired public schoolteacher with the Moore County Schools. She was an organist at her church, a former Boy Scout and Girl Scout leader and a member of the Carthage Garden Club, Women's Club and Women's Circle.

Surviving are husband, Colin G. Spencer Jr.; daughter, Mary Foix of Oregon City, Ore.; sons, Colin G. Spencer III of the home, Donald Spencer of Carthage; sister, Hertha Rouse of Aiken, S.C.; brother, James Price of Sarasota, Fla.; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Fry & Prickett Funeral Home, Carthage, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, other times at the home.

Thomasine W. Anderson
ASHEBORO - Thomasine Williamston Anderson, 88, formerly of Oxford, died Thursday, May 29, 2003, at Universal Health Care, Ramseur.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Cyprian's Episcopal Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Fiona M. Bergstrom officiating. Burial will be in Harris-Plummer-Cheatham Memorial Park, Oxford.

She was a native of FIorence, S.C., a graduate of St. Augustine College, Raleigh, and a retired employee of the Granville County school system.

Surviving are daughters, Annette A. Bailey of Durham, Willia C. Perry of Asheboro; five grandchildren.

The family will be at the church 10:30-11 a.m. Tuesday, prior to the service.

C.C. Hodges Funeral Service, Asheboro, is in charge of arrangements.

ASHEBORO - Ruth Glasgow Williams, 68, of 2254 Tot Hill Farm Road, Asheboro, died Sunday, June 1, 2003, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Forest Park Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Jon Ferguson and the Rev. Tommy R. Kidd Sr. officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Tabor Community Church cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County, a homemaker and a retired textile worker.

Surviving are son, Leo-nard H. Martinez Jr. of Randleman; stepsons, Sonney Gordon and Joey Wil-liams, both of Asheboro; daughters, Carolyn M. Jarrells, Rhonda M. York and Sirona C. Stillinger, all of Asheboro, Teena C. Weaver of Cedar Falls, Vickie A. Martinez of Randleman; stepdaughters, Pat Holl-ingsworth of Sophia, Linda Caviness of Eden, Billie Meggs of Cullman, Ala., Debbie Williams of Asheboro; 19 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, 7-9 p.m. Tuesday.

Dorothy M. Allred
RANDLEMAN - Dorothy Messick Allred, 84, of 3426 Wesleyan Road, died Sunday, June 1, 2003, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wed-nesday at Midway Wesleyan Church, where she was a charter member, with the Rev. J. Arnold Luther, the Rev. Philip J. Birchall and the Rev. Robert W. Allred officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Winston-Salem, the widow of Jack R. Allred, the retired owner and operator of Allred's Grocery and a Sunday school teacher of the primary class at her church.

Surviving are sons, Larry W. Allred of Randleman, Rev. Robert "Bobby" W. Allred of Charlotte; sisters, Inez Smith of Greensboro, Opal Graves and Bronnia Mae Marsh, both of Randleman; brothers, O.N. Bowers and Phillip Bowers, both of Randleman; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Randleman, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, other times at the home.

CARY - Ronnie H. Elmore, 56, died Sunday, June 1, 2003.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Parrish Funeral Home, Selma. Burial will be in Branch Chapel Free Will Baptist Church cemetery.

He was a native of Johnston County, a U.S. Army veteran, a member of Branch Chapel Free Will Baptist Church and a retired vice president and general auditor with Fidelity Bank.

Surviving are wife, Jackie Phillips Elmore; mother, Thelma Lamm Elmore; son, James S. "Jimmy" Elmore of Raleigh; brother, Larry D. Elmore of Asheboro.

Homie F. Hundley
ASHEBORO - Homie Frank Hundley, 88, of 1195 Pineview Road, Asheboro, died Tuesday, June 3, 2003, at North Point Assisted Living, Asheboro.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Balfour Baptist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. John Mangum officiating. Burial will follow in Randolph Memorial Park.

He was a Stokes County native, retired from Klopman Mills and was a watchmaker. He was a former deacon, Sunday School teacher and member of the choir at his church.

Surviving is wife, Evon Poole Hundley, of the home.

The family will be at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesday; other times at the home on Pineview Road.

Preston T. Shield
RANDLEMAN - Preston Thomas Shield, 80, died Monday, June 2, 2003, at Moses H. Cone Hospital in Greensboro.

Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church, Randleman, with the Rev. Kyle Thompson officiating. Burial will be in Waverly, Iowa.

He was a native of Montvideo, Minn., a veteran of U.S. Army Air Corps, having served in the South Pacific during World War II, and was owner/operator of Preston T. Shield Backhoe Service.

Surviving are wife, Margaret Steward Shield; daughters, Susan Kowalsky of Weaverville, Kathleen Cooper of Randleman and Annette Dever of San Marcos, Texas; son, Steven Shield of Longboat Key, Fla.; brothers, Merwin Shield of Park Rapids, Minn., and Gilbert Shield of Clear Lake, Iowa; sister, Mona Shield of Waverly, Iowa; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the church 10-11 a.m. Thursday before the service.

RANDLEMAN - Judy Coble Ward, 61, of 4570-11 Nelson Park Road, Sophia, died Monday, June 2, 2003, at her home.

She was an Alamance County native and retired as a secretary from High Point Regional Hospital.

Surviving are husband, Pete Ward of Sophia; daughters, Loree Murray and Cindy Hall, both of Snow Camp, and Candy Ward of Sophia; son, Link Ward of Cedar Square; sister, Pam Coble of Graham; seven grandchildren.

TROY - Joshua Nathaniel Cornelison, infant son of Tracy Smith and Joshua Cornelison, of 3924 Luther Hurley Road, died Sunday, June 1, 2003, at Randolph Hospital.

A private graveside service will be Wednesday.

Surviving, including parents, are grandparents, Janice Smith of Robbins, Roger Smith of Farmer and Ronnie and Patricia Cornelison of Troy; great-grandparents, Ruby Smith of Farmer, Tinny Cornelison of New Hope and Montese Callicutt of Denton.

The family will be at the home.

CARTHAGE - James C. "J.C." Hilliard, 69, of 792 Summer Hill Church Road, died Tuesday, June 3, 2003, at his home.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Summer Hill Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Joseph Peters and the Rev. Roland Reynolds officiating.

He was a Chatham County native and retired from the timber business.

Surviving are wife, Mary Garner Hilliard; son, Keith "Kim" Hilliard of Carthage; daughters, Pat Garner of Carthage and Phyllis Moore of West End; stepsons, Mike Lewis of West End, Kirk Lewis of Chattanooga, Tenn., and David Lewis of Berryville, Va.; stepdaughter, Lisa Reynolds of Carthage; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Fry and Prickett Funeral Home, Carthage, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday.

MIAMI, Fla. - Cynthia Voncannon Parrish, 55, of Ft. Pierce, Fla., died Saturday, May 31, 2003.

She was a native of Asheboro and an office manager.

Surviving are husband, Wayne M. Parrish of Ft. Pierce, Fla.; daughter, Sharon L. Powell of Sebastian, Fla.; son, Martin Voncannon of Tacoma, Wash.; stepdaughters, Sherri Parrish and Cindy Parrish, both of Vero Beach, Fla.; stepsons, Wayne Parrish of Germany and Danny Parrish of Ft. Pierce, Fla.; sisters, Margaret Lehman of Greensboro and Nancy Presnell of Sophia; brother, Charles Vuncannon of Gulfport, Miss.; eight grandchildren.

ASHEBORO - Douglas Richard Kirkman Sr., 76, of 2879 Old N.C. 49, Asheboro, died Tuesday, June 3, 2003, at his home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Moravia Moravian Church, Oak Ridge, with the Rev. Ray Lambe and the Rev. Jack Nance officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Guilford County, the widow of Minnie Pegram Kirkman, a World War II U.S. Navy veteran, a member of Back Creek Friends Meeting and a retired employee of Carolina Freight.

Surviving are wife, Olene S. Kirkman; sons, Douglas R. "Dickie" Kirkman Jr. of Durham, Kim Lee Kirkman of Huntersville; daughters, Hope Egan of Villa Hills, Ky., Carolyn Sellers of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Robin Kluttz of Mt. Pleasant; stepson, Carlee Spencer of Denton; sisters, Vera Nance of Winston-Salem, Edith Smith of Summerfield, Mary L. Baker of Oak Ridge; 11 grandchildren.
