SILER CITY - W. Frank Brewer, 88, of 2347 S. 2nd Ave. Ext., died Saturday, July 25, 1998, at his home.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Oakley Baptist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Timothy Howell officiating. Burial will be in Chatham Memorial Park.

He was retired from Amoco Gas Company and was a member of the Adult's Men's Sunday School class and a deacon and trustee at his church.

Surviving are wife, Coyala Jones Brewer of Siler City; daughter, Martha B. Lindley of Siler City; son, Leo Brewer of Siler City; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City, 7-9 p.m. Sunday.

TAYLORSVILLE - Caroline S. Jones, 55, formerly of Coleridge, died Friday, July 24, 1998, at her home in Taylorsville.

A memorial service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at First United Methodist Church, Taylorsville, where she was a member, with Dr. Charles Hutchens officiating. Entombment will be in Scenic Memorial Gardens, Wilkesboro.

She was native of Baltimore, Md. and a volunteer at Sugar Loaf Elementary School and the Taylorsville Hometown Development Council, Inc.

Surviving are husband, Larry Wilson Jones of Taylorsville; daughter, Larissa Erkman of Chapel Hill; sons, Todd Wilson Jones of Greensboro, Brian Kent Jones of Taylorsville; parents, H. Colon and Carol Cox Smith of Asheboro.

Jonas Wade Luther, 73, of 6031 High Pine Church Road, Asheboro, died Saturday, July 25, 1998, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, Greensboro.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Pisgah United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Lee Roy Hunt and the Rev. Fran Moran officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Randolph County, attended Pisgah United Methodist Church and was a logger, carpenter and a farmer.

Surviving are son, Boyd Wade Luther of Asheboro; daughters, Janet L. Lucas of Seagrove, Diane L. King of Asheboro; sisters, Mamie Luther, Ruby Jean Luther, both of the home, Nellie Miller of Asheboro; brother, Albert Luther of Asheboro; six grandchildren.

ARCHDALE - Gertha Barber, of Westwood Health & Rehabilitation Center, formerly of Elm Towers, High Point, died Friday, July 24, 1998, at the center.

Funeral service was 2 p.m. Monday at Temple Memorial Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Haywood T. Gray officiating. Burial was in Carolina Biblical Gardens.

She was a native of Fort Mill, S.C., employed with ILGWU Garment Factory, Philadelphia, Pa., as a seamstress, was a member of Missionary Group I and fraternally a charter member of Lady Astor Chapter #9, Order of the Eastern Star and of The Ancient Arabic Order, daughter of Sphinx.

Surviving is adopted god-daughter, Phyllis Rawley of Danville, Calif.

Haizlip Funeral Home, High Point, was in charge of the arrangements.

JULIAN - Creola Coble Bowman, 77, of 2145 N.C. 62 East, died Sunday, July 26, 1998, at her home.

She was a native of Randolph County and a retired employee of Wesley Long Hospital in Greensboro.

Surviving are husband, Clarence Worth Bowman of the home; daughter, Kay Kulesa of Charlotte; sister, Annie Willis of Greensboro; two grandchildren.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Liberty, 7-9 p.m. Tuesday.

BURLINGTON - John A. Shaw, 75, of 419 Crescent Ave., died Friday, July 24, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. R.W. Styles officiating. Burial will be in North Lawn Cemetery, Burlington.

He was a native of Guilford County, a U.S. Army veteran, a retired employee of General Motors and a Past Wishful Master of Augusta Lodge #642.

Vernon, N.Y.; stepsisters, Catherine C. Fox, Ethelyne C. Headen, both of Liberty; stepbrothers, Edward Cheek of Liberty, James Cheek of Baltimore, Md., Rev. Cecil J. Cheek of Graham, the Rev. George Cheek of Greensboro; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren.

She was a native of Moore County, a member of the Ladies Sunday School Class at her church and a homemaker.

Surviving are husband, Ellis E. Ritter; son, Billy W. Ritter of the home; daughters, Shirley R. Hinson of Bennett, Rachel Ritter of the home, Inez R. Reynolds, Norma R. Maness, Thelma R. Garner, all of Robbins; sister, Arlene C. Sanders of Robbins; brother, Carroll Williamson of Robbins; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandson.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Carthage Church of God, with the Rev. Kenneth Holt officiating. Burial will be in Culdee Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

She was a native of Richmond County and a retired employee of Procter-Silex, Southern Pines.

Surviving are husband, William R. Craven; daughters, Dianne Frye of West End, Kay McDonald of Panama City Beach, Fla.; son, Sammy Gathings of Rockingham; sisters, Libby Klumb of Wauwatosa, Wisc., Barbara Langley of Siler City; stepsisters, Jewel Pederson of Rockingham, Kate Baucon of Laurinburg; stepdaughters, Billie Taylor of Hamlet, Cathrine Rocker of Rockingham, Margaret Craven of Forest City; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; eight stepgrandchildren; 13 stepgreat-grandchildren; two stepgreat-great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Fry-Prickett Funeral Home, Carthage, 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, other times at the home.

CARTHAGE - Eula Presnell Hunley, 72, died Sunday, July 26, 1998.

A graveside service will be Thursday at Cross Hill Cemetery, with the Rev. Lovell Aills and the Rev. Anne Walker officiating.

She was a native of Siler City, a graduate of Florida State University, a teacher in the Panama City and Miami, Fla. schools and was a member of Carthage United Methodist Church and of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Surviving are son, Walter J. Hunley of Hickory, Ronald K. Hunley of Panama City, Fla.; sisters, Jean P. Prickett of Carthage, Sadie Presnell, Mary M. Williams, Dorothy Agnello, all of Fleetwood Falls; brothers, J. Guy Presnell Jr. of Goldsboro, James C. Presnell of Lynn Haven, Fla.; three grandchildren.

Fry-Prickett Funeral Home, Carthage, is in charge of the arrangements.

FLORENCE, S.C. - Adelaide Hedrick Stanley, 43, died Thursday, July 23, 1998, at her home.

He was a native of Randolph County, a World War II U.S. Army veteran and a retired cook at Asheboro Country Club.

Surviving are daughter, Karen Sue Hill of Randleman; son, William Grover Bullins Jr. of Winston-Salem; sister, Mozelle McKinney of Asheboro; brothers, Roy Bullins of Asheboro, Clyde Bullins of Franklinville; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

She was a native of Columbus County and a homemaker.

She was a native of Randolph County, an employee of First Union Bank in Randleman, a Sunday School teacher, choir member and secretary at her church and was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary.

Surviving are husband, Ralph Trogdon of Randleman; daughter, Karen Ferree of Troy; son, Harold Trogdon of Ramseur; sister, Peggy Hinshaw of Randleman; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

She was a native of Guilford County, the widow of Lee Goolsby, a homemaker and a member of Bethel Baptist Church, Southport.

Surviving are sister, Clementine Gurley of High Point; brother, Herman Bolton of Asheboro.

MOORESVILLE - William Oneill Swiggett, 80, of Linwood Road, formerly of Asheboro, died Saturday, July 25, 1998, at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center, Mooresville.

Funeral service was 2 p.m. Tuesday at Cavin Funeral Home, Mooresville, with the Rev. Lisa Nelson officiating. Burial was in Trinity Cemetery, Trinity.

He was a native of Randolph County, the widower of Ora Hiatt Swiggett, a retired specialist and instructor in electronics, had been employed with Business Equipment Group of Litton Industries and was a member of Prospect Presbyterian Church, Mooresville and Swannanoa Masonic Lodge No. 561 AF & AM, Swannanoa.

Surviving are wife, Margie Campbell Swiggett; daughter, Mary Lynne Swiggett of Statesville.
