Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Michael Smith and the Rev Lamont Hemminger officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
She was a native of Chatham County and a homemaker.
Surviving are sons, Joe Smith, June Smith, Jesse Smith and Robert D. Smith, all of Siler City; daughter, Betty Crews of Kernersville; sister, Naoma Kivett of Liberty; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.

DENTON - Hazel Tysinger Smyth, 96, of Denton Road, died Monday, June 23, 2003, at Mountain Vista Health Park, Denton.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church of Denton, where she was a member, with the Rev. Vern Peterson officiating. Burial will be in Denton Town Cemetery.
She was a native of Davidson County, the widow of William Henry Smyth Sr. and a graduate of Mars Hill College. She was a former secretary with the U.S. Agriculture Department in Washington and a retired secretary with Thomasville Furniture Industries. She was an organist and choir director at her church. She helped organize the Young At Heart Club and was founder and director of the first rhythm band. She was a volunteer with Senior Services Home Delivered Meals and a piano teacher.
Surviving are sons, William H. Smyth Jr. of Arlington, Mass., Robert A. Smyth of Punta Gorda, Fla.; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

She was a native of Clay County, the widow of Cornelius Downs and a retired salesperson. She attended Calvary Baptist Church.

ASHEBORO - Claude Lee Boggs, 78, of 505 Ideal Drive, Asheboro, died Tuesday, June 24, 2003, at High Point Regional Hospital.

He was a native of Caldwell County, a retired Master Sergeant with the U.S. Army and a retired employee of CP&L after 18 years. He was a Mason and a member of Asheboro Lodge 699.
Surviving are wife, Sumiko Ishii Boggs of the home; sons, J.S. "Jim" Boggs of Cornelius, William D. "Bill" Boggs of Clayton; sister, Ruth Harshman of Southport; four grandchildren.

She was a native of Randolph County, the widow of Henry C. Hayes, a member of the Missionary Circle, gospel choir, Pastor's Aid and honored as a Mother of the Church at her church. She was a former employee at Economy Dry Cleaners, Randleman.
