ASHEBORO - Terriel Eugene "Gene" Wessinger Jr., 72, of 642 Cypress Drive, Asheboro, died Friday, Aug. 1, 2003, at his home.

Funeral service will be 6 p.m. Sunday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Barry Queen officiating. Graveside service will be 3 p.m. Monday at Newberry Memorial Gardens, Newberry, S.C., with visitation following the service.

He was a native of Newberry, S.C., and a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving in the U.S. Air Force as a fighter pilot. He was a member of Central United Methodist Church, Asheboro, and retired from Burlington Industries-Kayser Roth after over 40 years of service.

Surviving are wife, Betty Jane Lefler Wessinger of Asheboro; daughters, Julie Pickett of New Jersey, Gigi Skinner of Asheboro and Lori Curtis of Weddington; sons, Terry Wessinger of Cary and Bryan Wessinger of Houston, Texas; mother, Sara Hawkins Wessinger of Newberry, S.C.; 11 grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home following the service on Sunday.

ASHEBORO - Jan Callicutt Veach Smith, 50, of 173 Scarboro St., Asheboro, died Saturday, Aug. 2, 2003, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Covenant Christian Church, with the Rev. Lois Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Randolph Memorial Park.

She was a Moore County native and the owner-operator of Veach Tree Service and American Way Realty. She was a past director of the Asheboro Board of Realtors and attended Covenant Christian Church and Sunset Avenue Church of God.

Surviving are husband, Rick Smith of the home; daughter, Valerie Dawn Veach of Asheboro; sisters, Claire Swain of Washington, D.C., Billie Wilson and Shirley Smith, both of Asheboro, Lee Abbott of Charlotte and Ruby Perry of Mt. Dora, Fla.; brothers, Kenneth Callicutt and Gary Callicutt, both of Seagrove.

The family will be at Ridge Funeral Home, Ashe-boro, 6-9 p.m. Monday.

SOPHIA - Ethel Mae Allgood, 90, of 4965 Walker Mill Road, formerly of Burlington, died Saturday, Aug. 2, 2003, at Clapp's Nursing Home, Asheboro.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Lowe Funeral Home, Burlington, with the Rev. Tommy Kidd of Friendship Baptist Church in Randleman officiating. Burial will follow in Alamance Memorial Park.

She was a Mecklenburg County, Va. native and retired from Sanders Hosiery Mill. She was a member of Riverdale Baptist Church.

Surviving are son, Larry Allgood of the home; sister, Nellie Smiley of South Hill, Va.

The family will be at the funeral home 5-8 p.m. Monday.

SEAGROVE - Mildred Eugenia Kennedy McNeill, 76, of 564 Upper Road, died Saturday, Aug. 2, 2003, at Pinelake Health & Rehabilitation, Carthage.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Union Grove Baptist Church, with the Rev. James E. Cockram and the Rev. Russell Craddock officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

She was a Moore County native and a homemaker.

Surviving are husband, Edward F. McNeill of Seagrove; daughters, Dorothy Green of Star and Aleen Atkinson of Seagrove; sons, Jimmy McNeill and Arthur McNeill, both of Seagrove, Johnny McNeill of Biscoe; sister, Sallie Lucas of Trinity; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

The family will be at Phillips Funeral Home, Star, 6-8 p.m. Sunday.

SILER CITY - Hilda Farris, 77, of 3313 Bowers Store Road, died Thursday, July 31, 2003, at Kindred Hospital, Greensboro.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Lambert Chapel Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

She was a Chatham County native and a CNA with Home Health.

Surviving are son, Bishop Orne Mason of the home; daughters, Brenda Russell, Betty Grady and Edith Mason, all of Siler City, and Florence White of Burlington; foster daughter, Pamela F. Mitchell of Goldston; brothers, Jesse E. Headen of Washington, D.C., and Edward Milliken of Greensboro; sisters, Dorothy Spinks, Hazel Alston and Margaret McSwain, all of Ramseur, and Grace A. Spinks of Seagrove; 20 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 48 great-great-grandchildren; nine great-great-great-grandchildren.

There will be no visitation.

WHISPERING PINES - Grace Muse "Pinkie" Voss, 84, died Saturday, Aug. 2, 2003, at HCR Manor Care, Pinehurst.

She was a Moore County native, a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and other civic groups. She was the widow of Reid Voss.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Tolars-ville Baptist Church, St. Pauls, with the Rev. Jeff Broadwell and the Rev. Randy Kinlaw officiating. Burial will follow in Brisson Family Cemetery, Dublin.

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Esther Moffitt, 88, of Armed Forces Retirement Home, formerly of Asheboro, died Sunday, July 27, 2003, at her residence.

Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Martha Welch officiating. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery.

She was a Randolph County native and retired as a master sergeant from the Women's Army Corps after 23 years of service.

Surviving are sisters, Jerrie M. Morton of Rome, Ga., and Judy M. Chisholm of Mt. Pleasant, S.C.; brother, W. Lloyd Moffitt of Asheboro.

The family will be in the parlor of the First United Methodist Church immediately following the memorial service.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Dale Kennedy and the Rev. Larry Emerson officiating. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery.

He was a Randolph County native, a 1991 graduate of Asheboro High School and a member of First E&R United Church of Christ. He was employed with APAC-Carolina Inc. Asphalt Plant in Randleman.

Surviving are daughter, Ashley Morgan Tarlton; parents, Ronald and Helen Auman Tarlton of Asheboro; brother, Ronald Glenn Tarlton of Asheboro; grandparents Billy and Lillie Tarlton and Lydia Auman, all of Asheboro.

The family will be at the funeral home, 6-8 p.m. Monday; other times at the home of his parents, 579 McDermott St., Asheboro.

SEAGROVE - Leo Lee Brower, 61, of 2405 Fork Creek Mill Road, died Saturday, Aug. 3, 2003, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Jeff Moran officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

He was a Randolph Coun-ty native and a farmer. He served on the board of trustees at his church.

Surviving are wife, Billie R. Brower of the home; daughter, Anna B. Miller of Seagrove; son, Rickey Brower of Randleman; mo-ther, Ollie Owens Brower of Seagrove; sisters, Linda Faye Tucker and Berta Neal, both of Asheboro.

ORLANDO, Fla. - Alex W. Leonard, 27, formerly of Thomasville, died Tuesday, July 29, 2003, in Orlando, Fla.

Funeral service was held Wednesday at the Dove Funeral Home, Orlando, Fla. A private family service was held at Sunset Avenue Church of God, Asheboro, Wednesday.

He was employed with Universal Studios in Orlando, Fla.

Surviving are father and stepmother, Mike and Trena Leonard of Asheboro; brother, Scott Leonard of Greensboro; grandmother, Maynell Leonard of Thomasville.

FRANKLINVILLE - Jack Dillard, 86, of 905 Faith Rock Road, died Friday, Aug. 1, 2003, at his home.

Memorial service will be 6 p.m. Tuesday at C.C. Hodges Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Eva Curtis officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Oakland Cemetery, Asheboro.

He was a native of Rockingham County, a U.S. Army veteran and a retired employee of Randolph Mills.

Surviving are sisters, Mary L. Tucker of Wilson, Kathleen Penn of Eden; one grandchild.

The family will be at the funeral home following the memorial service on Tuesday.

John R. Gainey Jr.

She was a native of Randolph County, the widow of Edgar Rufus Cox and a homemaker.

Surviving are son, Joseph Cox of Greensboro; daughter, Annette C. Wright of Chapel Hill; sister, Ruth Crawford Robinson of Greensboro; three grandchildren.

GREENSBORO - Paul C. Durham Sr., 85, of 3825 Mossyrock Road, formerly of Asheboro, died Sunday, Aug. 3, 2003.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Alamance Presbyterian Church, where he was a member. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a retired employee of Odell Hardware and the widower of Mabel Lee Redman Durham. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran and a former POW, and he played minor league baseball in Greensboro.

Surviving are sons, Paul "Kit" Durham Jr. of Greensboro, Terry Lee Durham of Enfield, Mike Durham of Thomasville; sister, Fannie Sue Chrismon of Greensboro; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.
The family will be at Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home, North Elm Street, Greensboro, 7-9 p.m. Tuesday.

CARTHAGE - Joyce M. Collins, 72, of Emorywood Lane, died Sunday, Aug. 3, 2003, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at Victory Community Baptist Church, with the Rev. Ronnie Cheney and the Rev. Mary Jane Andrews officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Jefferson County, Ala., and a private duty nurse.

Surviving are husband, William E. "Buck" Collins; daughters, Kay Wilson and Emily Caddell, both of West End; sons, William Collins of Vass, Owen Collins of Carthage, Richard Collins of West End; half brother, Richard J. McCleney Jr. of Fullendale, Ala.; 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.
