ASHEBORO - Arthur Neal Jelle, 82, of 1241 Ingram Drive, Asheboro, died Thursday, Sept. 18, 2003, at his home.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Barry L. Queen officiating. Burial will be in Zion United Church of Christ Cemetery, Thomasville, with military honors.

He was a native of Minnesota, the widower of Margaret Payne Jelle, a World War II U.S. Army veteran, a former employee of Standard Oil of Indiana and retired from IDS (American Express). He was a member of Central United Methodist Church, where he was a member of the Lloyd Bible Class, and a former volunteer with Hospice of Randolph.

Surviving are wife, Thel- ma Mabe Jelle; daughter, Glenda J. Bivens of Spartanburg, S.C.; stepsons, David Mabe and Walter Mabe, both of Asheboro; sister, Lillian Mutascio of West Roxbury, Mass.; five grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 6-8 p.m. Friday.

Agnes M. Greene
RAMSEUR - Agnes Mabe Greene, 87, of Universal Healthcare, 7166 Jordan Road, formerly of 276 Greene Acres Lane, Star, died Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2003, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Dover Baptist Church, Seagrove, where she was a member, with Dr. Don Davis officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Stokes County and the widow of Val B. Greene.

Surviving are son, Robert Lee "Bobby" Greene of Star; daughter, Mary G. Lively of Cary; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Phillips Funeral Home, Star, 7-9 p.m. Friday, other times at the home of the son, 210 Greene Acres Lane, Star.

PLEASANT GARDEN - Jimmie Lee "Jim" Collins, 69, of 2443 Old Climax Road, died Thursday, Sept. 18, 2003, at 3406 Old Climax Road.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Randolph Memorial Park, with the Rev. Bobby Boone officiating.

He was a retired employee of ACI Glass in Greensboro and a farmer.

Surviving are wife, Catherine McQueen Collins of the home; son, Roger Lee Collins of Climax; daughters, Susan Lane and Shelia Yow, both of Climax; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two stepgrandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Randleman, 6-8 p.m. Saturday, other times at the home of Shelia Yow, 2469 Old Climax Road, Pleasant Garden.

BENNETT - Minnie Cockman Kivett, 78, of 149 Washington St., died Wed-nesday, Sept. 17, 2003, at Kindred Hospital, Greensboro.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Pine Mountain Friends Church, where she was a member, with Pastor William Miller and Pastor Robert Kidd officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County, a homemaker and a former Sunday School teacher at her church.

Surviving are husband, Hamuel "Hamp" D. Kivett of the home; son, Larry Kivett of Bennett; daughters, Linda Carol Kivett and Sandra Kay Kivett, both of the home; one grandson.

The family will be at Joyce-Brady Funeral Home, Bennett, 6-8 p.m. Friday.

Haywood J. Fields
BEAR CREEK - Haywood June Fields, 86, of 1235 Dean Beavers Road, died Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2003, at his home.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Friday at Sandy Branch Baptist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Robert Capps officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Chatham County, the widower of Geneva Yow Fields, a retired employee of Boling Chair Company and a former deacon, Sunday School teacher and Sunday School superintendent at his church.

Surviving are wife, Wanna Mae Rachel Fields of Bear Creek; daughters, Elaine F. Crouch of Albemarle, Judy F. Efird of Badin; sisters, Frances F. Beal of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Mattie Lewis Brooks of Pinehurst; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City, 7-9 p.m. Thursday, other times at the home.

MT. GILEAD - Bill Eugene Haithcock, 77, of 477 Apple Orchard Road, died Thursday, Sept. 18, 2003, at Stanly Memorial Hospital, Albemarle.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Zion United Methodist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Jim Harris officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Montgomery County, the retired chief X-ray technician at Montgomery Me-morial Hospital and former head of the X-ray School of Technology at Rowan Memorial Hospital.

Surviving are wife, Patricia Almond Haithcock of the home; daughters, Carol H. McAulay of Mt. Gilead, Jean H. Harrison of Troy; brothers, Joe Haithcock of Burlington, Ralph Haithcock of Spartanburg, S.C.; sister, Katherine Simmerson of Salisbury; four grandchildren.

The family will be at the home following the service.

ASHEBORO - Margaret Bania Hughes Kinney, 80, of 401 Uwharrie St., Asheboro, died Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2003, at Randolph Hospital.

She was a native of Randolph County and retired from Acme-McCrary after 50 years.

ASHEBORO - Wanda Lou Ervin McNeill, 70, of 156 E. Academy St., Apt. #314, Asheboro, died Friday, Sept. 19, 2003, at her home.

She was a native of Durham County and a former employee in the food service industry.

Surviving are husband, James F. McNeill of the home; sons, Jimmy McNeill of Asheboro, Jerry McNeill of Greensboro; daughter, Ann M. Cox of Elizabethtown; six grandchildren.

ASHEBORO - Annie Burrow Shaw, 82, of 108 Carolina Ave., Asheboro, died Thursday, Sept. 18, 2003, at Clapp's Convalescent Nursing Home.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Fayetteville Street Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Adrian Pugh officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

She was a native of Stuart, Va., the widow of Joe Howard Burrow and a retired employee of Burlington Industries.

Surviving are sons, Scott Burrow of Asheboro, Ed Burrow of Randleman; daughter, Jurine B. Shane of Asheboro; sister, Bea Whitlow of Richmond, Va.; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, 6-8 p.m. Saturday.

ASHEBORO - Carter Todd Whitson, infant son of Chad and Samantha Blackwelder Whitson of 3498 Old N.C. 49, Asheboro, died Thursday, Sept. 18, 2003, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem.

Funeral service will be 4 p.m. Saturday at Cross Road Baptist Church, with the Rev. Johnny R. Henderson officiating. A private burial will be held.

Surviving in addition to his parents are sister, McKenzie Whitson of the home; grandparents, Morris and Beverly Whitson of Asheboro, Todd and Joyce Blackwelder and Linda Brady, all of Farmer; great-grandparents, Ted Blackwelder of Concord, Carlyle and Dot Browne of Ramseur, Herman and Nell Bolton of Asheboro.

GREENSBORO - Clifford Joseph Spatz, 88, of 5021 Bearberry Point, died Thursday, Sept. 18, 2003 at Beverly Healthcare Center.

Graveside service will be 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Westminster Gardens Chapel Mausoleum, with the Rev. Boyd Byerly officiating.

He was a native of New York, N.Y., and a retired accountant with F.H. Vahlsing Inc.

Surviving are wife, Katherine Bilous Spatz of Greensboro; son, Clifford W. Spatz of Greensboro; two grandsons; one great-granddaughter.

The family will be at the mausoleum chapel 3-3:30 p.m. Sunday.

CARTHAGE - Rev. Bennie Lewis Maness, 85, of 204 Mt. Carmel Road, died Thursday, Sept. 18, 2003, in Autumn Care of Biscoe.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Asbury Baptist Church, Seagrove, with the Rev. Clay Davis and the Rev. Maurice Cooper officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Randolph County, a graduate of Elise Academy in Robbins and a retired Baptist minister after 65 years, who served area Baptist churches including Acorn Ridge, Calvary, Red Branch, Union Grove, Pine Grove, Bennett, Deep River, Macedonia, Garner Chapel, Beulah, Asbury, Riverside and Flint Hill Baptist churches.

Surviving are wife, Madie Williams Maness; son, Bobby Maness of Bennett; daughter, Vernell Maness of Robbins; sisters, Tessie M. Cockman of Robbins, Esther M. Myrick of Biscoe; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Kennedy Funeral Home, Robbins, 7-9 p.m. Saturday, other times at the home.

ASHEBORO - Earl Eugene "Pete" Hogan, 75, of 328 Ross St., Asheboro, died Friday, Sept. 19, 2003, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, with Dr. John Rogers and the Rev. Mark Hall officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery.

He was a native of Randolph County, formerly employed with General Hardware and retired from the U.S. Postal Service. He was a National Guard veteran, a member of Asheboro Masonic Lodge #699 A.F.& A.M. and he attended First Baptist Church.

Surviving are sisters, Elta Hogan of the home, Mary Ann Yow of Sanford.

The family will be at the funeral home 6-8 p.m. Monday, other times at the home.

She was a native of Chatham County and a retired employee of Bill's Grill.

ASHEBORO - Gladys Ingram Welborn, 87, of Mountain Vista Health Care Park, Denton, formerly of 649 N. Elm St., Asheboro, died Saturday, Sept. 20, 2003, at Mountain Vista.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Randolph Memorial Park, with the Rev. Robert L. Kidd officiating.

She was a 1933 graduate of Asheboro High School, the widow of Colon L. Welborn, a member of Asheboro Friends Meeting where she was president of the Fidelis Sunday School Class and a retired employee of Burlington Industries.

Surviving are daughter, Gwen Miller of Asheboro; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, 12:30-1:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Alpheus B. Spence
HIGH POINT - Alpheus Benjamin Spence, 88, of Albertson Road, died Sunday, Sept. 21, 2003, at SunBridge Care and Rehabilitation.

Funeral service will be 7:30 p.m. Monday at Davis Funerals & Cremation, High Point, with the Rev. Ardis Payne officiating. Burial will be Tuesday in Prospect United Methodist Church Cemetery, Archdale.

He was a native of Brunswick County, Va., a former accountant for automobile dealerships and of the Methodist faith.

Surviving are daughters, Joan Branson and Dorothy Louise Martinez, both of Archdale; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7 p.m. Monday, prior to the service.

OAK RIDGE - Lota Edith Welborn, 85, formerly of Liberty, died at the home of her daughter in Oak Ridge, Saturday, Sept. 20, 2003.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home, Sedgefield Chapel, Greensboro. Entombment will be in Guilford Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

She was the widow of Henry Clay Welborn, a retired employee of Southern Bell in Miami, Fla., and a member of the Telephone Pioneers.

Surviving are daughter, Patricia Schurr of Oak Ridge; son, James Welborn of Seabring, Fla.; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Tuesday.

She was a native of Gulf, a former employee of Glendale Outlet Store and a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church.

Surviving are daughter, Kendrea Lynette Vickrey of Staley; sisters, Linda White of Raleigh, Betty Lou Atkins of Gulf; brother, Phil Hart of Gulf; two grandchildren.

Lucille P. Miller
SILER CITY - Lucille Pegg Miller, 85, of 614 E. Raleigh St., died Sunday, Sept. 21, 2003, at SunBridge Care Facilities, 900 W. Dolphin St.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at South Fork Friends Church, Snow Camp, where she was a member, with Ron Oren and Ray Lamb officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Alamance County, a retired employee of Quality Molding and a member of the Geneviene Lindley Sunday School class at her church.

Surviving are sons, Phil Lindley, Dwight Lindley and Michael Lindley, all of Siler City; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City, 7-9 p.m. Monday, other times at the home of Dwight Lindley, 914 N. Garden Ave., Siler City.

She was a native of Chatham County and a retired employee of Hadley-Peoples Manufacturing Company.

Surviving are husband, Gurney E. Smith of Siler City; son, Jack Smith of Siler City; daughters, Ginger S. Moore and Jill S. Kiser, both of Siler City; sister, Cleo S. Hudson of Bear Creek; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City, 6-8 p.m. Monday, other times at the home of Ginger S. Moore, 2566 Hamp Stone Road, Siler City.
