DENTON - Anita Russell Shaw, 77, of Flat Swamp Road, died Saturday, Sept. 20, 2003, at her home.

Funeral service will be 4 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Vern Peterson officiating. Burial will be in Mountain View Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

She was a native of Davidson County, the widow of Gene Shaw and a retired employee of Burlington House Furniture Colony Craft Plant. She was a member of the Golden Circle Sunday School Class, a former member of the WMU at her church and the first director of the church day care.

Surviving are son, Russell Shaw of Boone; daughter, Sandi Wright of Denton; sisters, Thelma Russell of Denton, Vivian Penry of High Point; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Briggs Funeral Home, Denton, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, other times at the home.

CARTHAGE - Essie Lee Kelly Horne, 92, of 708 McNeill St., died Sunday, Sept. 21, 2003, at her home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. David Coffey and the Rev. Stuart Gordon officiating. Burial will be in Cross Hill Cemetery.

She was a native of Moore County, the widow of Sheriff Robert Lee Kelly and Charles Currie Horne and a former sales clerk for Ginsburg's and Flinchum's department stores.

Surviving are son, Robert Lee Kelly Jr. of Carthage; sister, Virginia Bruce of Robbins; brothers, Roy Brown of Millersville, Md., Harold Brown of Asheboro; three grandchildren; two stepgranddaughters; two great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Fry & Prickett Funeral Home, Carthage, 6-8 p.m. Monday, other times at the home.

Raymond E. Chitwood
WIRTZ, Va. - Raymond Elton "Baldie" Chitwood, 84, died Saturday, Sept. 20, 2003.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Lynch Funeral Home, Rocky Mount, Va., with Elder Lane Carter and the Rev. Yo Lee officiating. Burial will be in the Jefferson Family Cemetery.

He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, a member of Woodman of the World and American Legion Post 6, a support member of Burnt Chimney Volunteer Fire Department and a retired employee of Norfolk-Western Railway.

Surviving are wife, Madeline Jefferson "Pat" Chitwood; daughter, Judy Chitwood of Wirtz, Va.; son, Ricky Chitwood of Wirtz, Va.; sister, Temple Law of Asheboro; two grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 6-9 p.m. Monday.

Lucille P. Miller
SILER CITY - Lucille Pegg Miller, 85, of 614 E. Raleigh St., died Sunday, Sept. 21, 2003, at SunBridge Care Facilities, 900 W. Dolphin St.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at South Fork Friends Church, Snow Camp, where she was a member, with Ron Orenn and Ray Lambe officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Alamance County, a retired employee of Quality Molding and a member of the Geneviene Lindley Sunday School class at her church.

Surviving are sons, Phil Lindley, Dwight Lindley and Michael Lindley, all of Siler City; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City, is in charge of arrangements.

MONROE - Elizabeth "Lib" Baucom Price, 72, died Saturday, Sept. 20, 2003, at Mercy Hospital, Charlotte.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Union Grove Primitive Baptist Church, with Elder Newell Helms and Elder Larry Austin officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Union County, the widow of Jesse Belvin Price and a beautician.

Surviving are sons, Ralph W. Price of Wesley Chapel, Neal Price and Larry B. Price, both of Monroe; daughters, Nelda P. Lemmon of Monroe, Donna P. Smith of Asheboro; brother, Ernest Baucom of Monroe; sisters, Edna Hudspeth of Troutman, Willie Mae Crouch of China Grove; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren.

She was a native of Gaston County.

Robert C. Broadwell
STALEY - Robert C. Broadwell, 71, of 150 Terapin Slide Road, died Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2003, at his home.

He was a retired Master Sergeant with the U.S. Air Force after 2612 years and a former civil servant.

Surviving are wife, Nancy Fuqua Lowe Broadwell of the home; daughters, Donna Owens-Lineberry of Staley, Alexandra Broadwell of Redondo Beach, Calif., Tina Aird of San Antonio, Texas; stepdaughters, Donna Jane Layman of San Antonio, Texas, Vicki Lowe Fowler of McLeansville; stepson, Charles D. Lowe of Greensboro; foster brother, Jack Jenkins of Newport News, Va.; 11 grandchildren and stepgrandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren.

He was a native of Montgomery County, of the Baptist faith and a retired self-employed welder.

Surviving are wife, Bobby Jean Haywood of the home; stepdaughters, Diane Brown of Candor, Sandy Ray of Star; stepson, Jerry Lamonds of Hickory; brothers, Conley Haywood of Candor, Paul Haywood of Biscoe; sisters, Margie Green and Jesse Campbell, both of Biscoe, Essie Sexton of Candor; three stepgrandchildren.

The family will be at Phillips Funeral Home, Star, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday.

Lois M. Staley
PRINCE GEORGE, Va. - Lois Green McDowell Staley, 71, of 7l00 T67 Whispering Winds Drive, died Sunday, Sept. 21, 2003, at Southside Regional Hospital, Petersburg, Va.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Jeremy Sink officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park, Asheboro.

She was a native of Randolph County, the widow of James L. Staley and a homemaker. She attended Gregory Memorial Presbyterian Church in Prince George, Va.

Surviving are daughter, Debra S. Mulkey of Pickens, S.C.; sisters, Vida Swaney of Thomasville, Imogene Ridge of Denton; brothers, Casper McDowell, Alvin McDowell, the Rev. George McDowell, all of Asheboro; three grand- children.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, other times at the home of Thelma Burrit, 1398 Staley Farm Road, Asheboro.

STALEY - Francis Berenice Calles Green, infant daughter of Francisco Calles and Ivonne Green, of 241 Graham Moore Road, died Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2003, at UNC Hospitals, Chapel Hill.

Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Randolph Memorial Park, with Father Joseph Mack officiating.

Surviving, in addition to parents, are sisters, Diana Giselle Calles Green and Francis Carissa Calles Green, both of the home; grandparents, Tomas Calles Moguel, Tomasa Juarez Zetina, Tomasa Mora Rico and Bernardo Green Lobato.

The family will be at Ridge Funeral Home, 8:30-9:30 a.m. Saturday.

Jerry W. Griffin
OAK ISLAND - Jerry Wesley Griffin, 56, of 155 N.E. 6th St., died Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2003, at Dosher Hospital in Southport.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Floral Garden Park Cemetery, with the Rev. Ricky Eller officiating.

He was a Guilford County native and a U.S. Marine Corps veteran. He was retired from Old Dominion Freight Line and attended Shoreline Baptist Church in Southport.

Surviving are wife, Shirley Osborne Griffin of the home; daughters, Lorie Ann Griffin of Winnabow and Jerra Nicole Griffin of the home; sister, Linda Tucker of High Point.

The family will be at Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale, 7-8:30 p.m. Friday; other times at 4135 Old Glenola Drive, Trinity.

Charles D. Hill
ASHEBORO - Charles Delbert Hill, 79, of 2656 Hopewell Friends Road, Asheboro, died Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2003, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Randolph Memorial Park, with military honors, with the Rev. Tim Fonner officiating.

He was a Randolph County native and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was retired from McLean Trucking in Winston-Salem and Moore Brothers Bus Co. He was the widower of Callie Powers Hill and Helen Reel Hill.

Surviving are daughters, Jane H. Brown of Las Vegas, Nev., Janet H. Henley, Deborah H. Robbins and Sharon H. McIntosh, all of Asheboro; son, Larry Hill of Asheboro; sister, Margaret Hogan of Asheboro; brothers, Henry "Bunny" Linthicum of Randleman, John Hill, Earl Hill and Robert "Bobby" Hill, all of Asheboro; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, 6-8 p.m. Friday; other times at his home.

RANDLEMAN - Noah Rufus "June" Skeen Jr., 76, of 182 Rockett Road, died Thursday, Sept. 25, 2003, at his home.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Pugh Funeral Home, Randleman, with the Rev. J. Ernest Mangum and the Rev. Jeffrey Martin officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

He was a Randolph County native and a member of Level Cross United Methodist Church. He was a self-employed auto mechanic.

Surviving are wife, Lucille L. Skeen of Randleman; daughters, Joyce Mangum of Randleman and Sandra Davis of Archdale; sons, Everette Skeen of Randleman, Wayne Skeen of Gibsonville, Kenneth Skeen of Archdale and Dean Skeen of Pleasant Garden; sister, Naomi Grubb of Thomasville; brothers, Charles Skeen of Archdale and Tommy Skeen of Wilmington; 13 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 6-8:30 p.m. Friday; other times at the home.

Elma H. Robinson
MT. GILEAD - Elma Haywood Robinson, 88, died Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2003, at Autumn Care.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Calvary Baptist Church, Mt. Gilead, where she was a charter member, with the Rev. Bill Turnmire officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

She was a Montgomery County native, a retired hosiery mill worker and a homemaker. She was a choir member and had taught Sunday School for many years at her church. She was the widow of Clyde Daniel Robinson Sr.

Surviving are sons, Larry Robinson of Mt. Gilead, Jimmie Robinson of Jamestown and Billy Robinson of Laurinburg; daughter, Kay R. Martin of Mt. Gilead; brother, Elbert Haywood of Troy; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

The family will be at Edwards Funeral Home, Mt. Gilead, 7-9 p.m. Friday.

He was a native of Guilford County, a truck driver for Standard Trucking Co. and a member of Patterson Grove Christian Church, Ramseur.

Surviving are wife, Faylene Murphy Bowman of the home; sons, Billy Odell Bowman of Rockingham, Grady Keith Bowman Liberty; daughter, Carolyn Faye Poe of Staley; sister, Nancy Lee Wescott of Whitsett; brother, John Walter Bowman Jr. of Ringold, Ga.; 15 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren.
