ASHEBORO - Grace White Newman, 91, formerly of Tremont Drive, Asheboro, died Monday, Oct. 13, 2003, at Randolph Hospital.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Dale Kennedy officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.
She was a native of Dobson, the widow of Waylon "Sal" Newman and a retired employee of the hosiery industry.
Surviving are son, J. C. Wood of Holden Beach; sisters, Delcie Peklay of Madison, Ohio, Ola Chisholm of Columbus, Ohio, Mary Loflin of Asheboro; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.
The family will be at the funeral home 12:30-1:30 p.m. Wednesday.

FRANKLINVILLE - Jerry Timothy "Tim" Hogan, 42, of 2953 Marclif Road, died Sunday, Oct. 12, 2003.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Faith Temple Baptist Church Cemetery, with Pastor Joe L. Farlow, the Rev. Ronald Hester and the Rev. Bill Dennis officiating.
He was a native of Randolph County, a graduate of Eastern Randolph High School, an employee of Jerry Auman Mobile Storage and a member of Faith Temple Baptist Church.
Surviving are wife, Tonya Falk Hogan; daughter, Tiffany Amber Hogan of the home; son, Daniel Tyler Hogan of the home; parents, Jimmy and Dian Lineberry of Franklinville; stepfather, Ronnie McMillon of Asheboro; sister, Donna McMillon Janutola, Patricia McMillon Moran, Shannon Lineberry Faircloth and Dana Michelle Lineberry, all of Franklinville; brother, James Marshall Lineberry Jr. of Franklinville.

MT. GILEAD - Maxine Mildred Christian, 73, of Hallyburton Road, Wadeville, died Friday, Oct. 10, 2003, at Stanly Memorial Hospital, Albemarle.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Roper Grove A.M.E. Zion Church, Mt. Gilead, where she was a member, with the Rev. Jerry A. Dowdy officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
She served on the flower committee and was a member of the choir at her church. She retired from McRae Shoe Factory.
Surviving are daughter, Eunice Nicholson, of the home; sons, Bobby Christian of Detroit, Mich. and Harrison Buie of New Jersey; sisters, Thelma Stanback of Troy, Genell Foust of Asheboro; brothers, Bobby Steed of Mt. Gilead and John Steed of Wadeville; 24 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren.

NORMAN - Kimberly Lynn Byrd, 14, of 127 Byrd St., died Thursday, Oct. 9, 2003, as a result of injuries received in an automobile accident.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Church of God of Prophecy, with the Rev. Cynthia Whitley officiating. Burial will be in Norman Cemetery.
She was a native of Moore County and a ninth grader.

She was a native of Andrews, the widow of Emmett Edison Ross Sr. and a retired employee of Sadie Mills, Kings Mountain.
Surviving are son, Emmett Edison "Eddie" Ross Jr. of Wilkesboro; daughters, Dorene R. Ballard and Eva Nell R. Crawford, both of Kings Mountain; sister, Willie Cable of Kings Mountain; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.

She was a Randolph County native and a homemaker. She formerly attended West Bend United Methodist Church and was the widow of Walon C. Robbins.
Surviving are daughter, Vivian Robbins Coleman of Hickory; sons, Walon Robbins Jr., Lynn Robbins, Tim Robbins and Chris Robbins, all of Asheboro; sister, Irene McBride of Asheboro; five grandchildren.

He was a Montgomery County native and a member of First Baptist Church. He was formerly employed in the textile industry.

TROY - Eula Morris McIntyre, 92, of 1789 N.C. 190 North, died Monday, Oct. 13, 2003, at Baaseiah Rest Home in Candor.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, Troy, where she was a charter member, with the Rev. Grady Blakely officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
She was a Montgomery County native and retired from Capels Inc.

COLERIDGE - Everette Rodney Phillips, 70, of 7363 Ferguson Road, Ramseur, formerly of Coleridge, died Monday, Oct. 13, 2003, at his home.
Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Deep River Baptist Church, with the Rev. Jon Shook and the Rev. Bob Boyd officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with full military honors by the Randolph County Honor Guard.
He was a Guilford County native, a former construction worker and a veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of Trinity Wesleyan Church.
Surviving are son, Christopher Todd Phillips of Asheboro; daughters, Rhonda Flinchum of Robbins, Teresa Weaver of Asheboro and Sharon Hoover of Trinity; sister, Frankie Lee Hunter of Asheboro; brother, Lacy Phillips of High Falls; mother, Edna R. Phillips of Coleridge; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

SILER CITY - Cletus Eugene Nance, 74, of 6042 Moreland Road, died Monday, Oct. 13, 2003, at SunBridge Care & Rehabilitation, Siler City.
There will be no service.
He was a Randolph County native, retired from Randolph Mills and a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
Surviving are sons, Dale Nance of Siler City and Eugene Nance of Asheboro; daughters, Robin Pace of Camden, Tenn.; stepsons, James Penley of Liberty and Billy Penley of Camden, Tenn.; sisters, Martha Arrington of Franklinville, Mary Helen Lindley of Asheboro and Golda Cook of Lexington; 13 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

CARTHAGE - James R. "Mutt" Frye Sr., 76, of 165 Edinburgh Lane, Dundee Estates, died Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2003, at his home.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Victory Community Baptist Church, with the Rev. Ronnie Chaney and the Rev. Shawn Dobbs officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
He was a Moore County native and retired as safety supervisor for Resorts of Pinehurst Inc. He was also a retired chief of the Pinehurst Fire Department and the widower of Margaret Eames Frye.
Surviving are daughter, Gail Bigger of Carthage; sons, James R. "Jimmy" Frye of Holden Beach, Jerry N. Frye of Carthage, Richard W. Frye of Pinehurst, David P. Frye and Chris A Frye, both of West End; 16 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren.

She was a Franklin County native, the widow of Rufus Upchurch and a member of Bennett Baptist Church.

BENNETT - Jack Emerson Powers, 97, of 295 Phillips Road, died Monday, Oct. 13, 2003, at SunBridge Care in Siler City.

He was a Chatham County native and a member of the Adult Men's Class at his church. He was a retired linesman with Duke Power and the widower of Payton Rigsbee.
Surviving are daughters, Ruth Phipps of Bennett, Kay Simpson of Carthage, Joyce Bissett of Durham; son, Joe Powers of Bennett; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren.

She was a Davidson County native, a homemaker and played the piano for the Ben Snider Family Singers. She was of the Baptist faith and the widow of Arlie H. Surratt.
Surviving are son, Jerry L. Surratt of Thomasville; sister, Marjorie Loflin of Lexington; half-brother, Joe Snider of Badin Lake; one grandchild; three great-grandchildren.

She was a Person County native, a life member of the Presbyterian Women and active in community affairs. She was a past member of the Order of the Eastern Star and a homemaker. She was the widow of Ollie Currie.
Surviving are daughter, Martha Currie Ippoliti of Pinehurst; sisters, Thelma Lewis of Eagle Springs and Wilma Money of Sanford; brothers, James Clayton and Harold Clayton, both of Pinehurst; one grandchild.

He was a native of Cliffside, a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean conflict, a retired employee of Eveready Battery and a member of Friendship Baptist Church, where he was treasurer and a deacon.
Surviving are wife, Donsy Ingold Hames; sons, Jeff Hames and Steve Hames, both of Asheboro; three granddaughters; three great-grandchildren.

She attended Asheboro Pentecostal Holiness Church. She was a retired employee of Acme-McCrary after 41 years, a former employee of Banner Hosiery and a graduate of Randolph Technical College, with a nursing assistant certificate.
Surviving are husband, Harold W. King; sons, J. Howard King of Lexington, Harold Steven King of Asheboro, Roy David King of Greensboro; daughter, Sandy K. Garrett of Jamestown; sisters, Allene Wilson of Graham, Lula Copple of Asheboro; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

He was a native of Bladen County, the widower of Edith Kennedy Tyson, a World War II U.S. Navy veteran, the owner/operator of Tyson's Trucking Inc. and a member of Liberty Masonic Lodge 714 AF&AM.
Surviving are son, James E. Tyson of Little River, S.C.; half sister, Doris Tyson of Fayetteville; two granddaughters; two great-grandchildren.
