She was a native of Davidson County, the widow of Lloyd L. Elliott, a homemaker and a member of Calvary Gospel Church.
Surviving are daughter, Betty Fowler of Denton; one grandchild; one great-grandchild.

She was a native of Moore County and a member of Highfalls United Methodist Church.

SILER CITY - Ruth Dowd Beal, 83, of 99 Bruce Phillips Road, died Sunday, Nov. 16, 2003, in Laurels of Chatham, Pittsboro.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Antioch Christian Church, Bear Creek, where she was a member, with the Rev. Darrell Garner, the Rev. Clark Davis and the Rev. Robert Capps officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
She was a native of Chatham County, the widow of Edwin Brooks and Arlie Beal, a homemaker and a member of the Ladies Sunday School Class and Ladies Aid Society at her church.
Surviving are daughters, Linda B. Cheek and Marie Phillips, both of Bear Creek, Joyce Hilliard of Goldston; brothers, Charlie Dowd, Shelley Dowd, Thomas Dowd, Graham Dowd and Jim Dowd, all of Siler City; eight grandchildren; one stepgrandchild; two stepgreat-grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren.

Velna B. Hussey
ROBBINS - Mrs. Velna Brady Hussey, 83, of 2127 Wilson Road, passed away Monday, Nov. 17, 2003, at Pinehurst Nursing Center.
Funeral services will be Wednesday 2 p.m. at Joyce-Brady Funeral Home Chapel in Bennett, with Pastor Robert L. Kidd officiating. Burial will be in Highfalls Friends Cemetery.
Mrs. Hussey was a Randolph County native, a member of Deep River Baptist Church in Coleridge and she formerly worked at Collins & Aikman in Siler City.
Mrs. Hussey is survived by husband, M. Graham Hussey of the home; daughter, Martha Ann Nichols of Pinebluff; sister, Betsy Jean Cheek of Ramseur; brother, O.C. Brady Jr. of Staley; grandchildren, Gail Prevatte, Mark Nichols and Sarah Nichols, all of Pinebluff; four great-grandchildren.

ASHEBORO - William Edward "Bill" Bridges Sr., 74, of 1931 Greenwood Road, Asheboro, died Monday, Nov. 17, 2003, at Randolph Hospital.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Balfour Baptist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Gene Booker officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.
He was a native of Shelby, a graduate of Shelby High School and a graduate of Wake Forest University. He was a U.S. Air Force Korean War veteran, retired from Burlington Industries and Ramseur Interlock as Human Resource Director, a Mason and member of Balfour Lodge #188 AF&AM and a deacon at his church.
Surviving are wife, Audrey Greer Bridges; sons, William Edward "Billy" Bridges Jr. of Asheboro, Jonathan Christopher "Chris" Bridges of Cheraw, S.C.; mother, Jeslyn C. Bridges of Shelby; six grandchildren.

ASHEBORO - Robert Glen Holt Sr., 98, of 711 Holly St., Asheboro, died Monday, Nov. 17, 2003, at Clapp's Convalescent Nursing Home in Asheboro.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 20, 2003, at First United Methodist Church, Asheboro, with the Rev. Michael Holder and the Rev. Martha Welch officiating. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery.
Mr. Holt was born in Stanly County on July 29, 1905, the son of the late David and Eliza Rummage Holt. He was educated in Stanly County Schools and worked for the H.P. Efird Co., which was a dealer for International Harvester. He moved to Asheboro in 1943 to work with his brother, the late D.W. Holt, in his International Harvester dealership. He was a member of First United Methodist Church for 59 years where he served in numerous capacities. He was preceded in death by his son, Robert G. Holt Jr.
He is survived by his wife of 76 years, Mary Thompson Holt of the home; daughters, Betty Holt Elliott and husband, J.W., of Carthage, Patty Holt Brown of Gastonia; son, David H. Holt and wife, Helen, of Kernersville; daughter-in-law, Peggy Holt of Asheboro; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at Ridge Funeral Home in Asheboro on Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2003, from 6-8 p.m., and other times at the home.
