RAMSEUR - Virginia Wood Ham, 76, of 1047 Stout View Road, died Saturday, Aug. 14, 1998, at Moses Cone Extended Care Nursing Home in Greensboro.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Loflin Funeral Home in Ramseur.

Brooke U. Phillips

Brooke Upchurch Phillips, 18, of 2355 Berkley Lane, Asheboro, died Sunday, Aug. 16, 1998, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, Greensboro.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Russell Ward Jr. officiating.

She was a 1998 graduate of Asheboro High School where she had been a cheerleader, a member of the softball team, vice president of the DECA club and was a member of the Key Club, Students Against Violating the Environment (SAVE), Junior Civinettes Club, Monogram Club and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. She had been employed as a gymnastics instructor with Gymnastic Time and she was to enter the physical therapy program at Guilford College this fall.

Surviving are parents, Larry Wayne and Martha "M.A." Phillips of the home; brother, Brad Phillips of Columbia, S.C.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, 6-9 p.m. Monday.

Harold R. Culnon

Harold Roy Culnon, 82, of 305 Springwood Road, Asheboro, died Sunday, Aug. 16, 1998, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, Greensboro.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

He was an instructor at Randolph Technical College, was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, a POW and a Purple Heart recipient and was a member of the American Legion and the Disabled American Veterans.

Surviving are wife, Evelyn Carlton Culnon of the home; sons, William M. Culnon of Concord, Steven Roy Culnon of Wake Forest; daughter, Patricia Susan Culnon of Greensboro; brothers, George D. Culnon of Weirton, W.Va., Allen W. Culnon of Phoenix, Ariz.; two grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, 7-9 p.m. Monday.

Hilda M. Redding

RANDLEMAN - Hilda Marie Redding, 69, of Brookstone Haven, died Monday, Aug. 17, 1998, at Brookstone.

Virginia W. Ham

RAMSEUR - Virginia Wood Ham, 76, of 1047 Stout View Road, died Saturday, Aug. 15, 1998, at Moses Cone Extended Care Center, Greensboro.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church of Ramseur, where she was a member, with the Rev. Justus McKeel officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Knoll Cemetery.

She was a native of Sioux City, Iowa, a legal secretary, a church secretary and a volunteer member of the Rescue Squad and Hospice in Topsail Island.

Surviving are husband, Robert E. "Bob" Ham of the home; sons, Robert Michael Ham of Bellville, Texas, William James "Bill" Ham of Madison; daughter, Karen Leonard of Greensboro; brothers, Ai LeGrande Wood Jr. of Orlando, Fla., John Wood of Edina, Minn.; sisters, Maralyn Zeman of Waterman, Ill., Nancy Casavant of Panama City, Fla.; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, 7-9 p.m. Monday, other times at the home.

Memorials may be made to Hospice or charity of choice.

Fleta Y. Dennis

TROY - Fleta Yarboro Dennis, 84, of 1361 Thickety Creek Road, Mt. Gilead, died Sunday, Aug. 16, 1998, at Britthaven of Piedmont, Albemarle.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Holly Mount Baptist Church, Mt. Gilead, where she was a member, with the Rev. Mitchell Walker officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Montgomery County and retired from N.C. Finishing Co.

Surviving are son, Danny Dennis of the home; brother, Robert Yarboro of Mt. Gilead; sister, Maidie Haywood of Mt. Gilead; three granddaughters; three great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh-Troy Funeral Home, Troy, 7-9 p.m. Monday, other times at the home.

Lula D. Parks

TROY - Lula Deaton Parks, 81, of 519 Crouch St., died Sunday, Aug. 16, 1998, at her home.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Pugh-Troy Funeral Home, Troy, with the Rev. Gary Rutherford officiating. Burial will be in Suggs Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, Star.

She was a native of Montgomery County and a retired employee of Capel Inc.

Surviving is half brother, Alton Spivey of Thomasville.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Monday, other times at the home of Janice VunCannon, Old Dairy Road, Troy.

Alice F. Stengele

CARTHAGE - Alice Frederick Stengele, 65, of 102 Reds Lane, died Saturday, Aug. 15, 1998, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.

A memorial service will be 6 p.m. Tuesday at Fry-Prickett Funeral Home, Carthage, with Pastor William Maness Jr. officiating.

She was a native of Kingston, N.Y.

Surviving are husband, Joseph Stengele; daughters, Sandi Angley of Vass, Cristi Cray of Carthage; sons, Michael Stengele, Joseph Stengele Jr., both of Carthage; sisters, Kay Cuba of Poughkeepsie, N.Y., Verlie Wyant of Hyde Park, N.Y.; brother, Vernon Frederick of Gardner, N.Y.; 13 grandchildren; three great-granddaughters.

The family will be at the home of Michael Stengele, 251 T. Johnson Road, Carthage.

H. Paul Garner

SOUTHERN PINES - H. Paul Garner, 67, of 111 Marie Court, died Saturday, Aug. 15, 1998, at his home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Yates-Thagard Baptist Church, with the Rev. Steven Johnson and the Rev. Darrell Garner officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Moore County and a retired employee of J.P. Stevens, Aberdeen.

Surviving are daughters, Deborah Orr of Southern Pines, Phyllis Taylor of Carthage, Connie Kiser of Lakeview, Jill Barber of Aberdeen; son, Stanley Garner of Aberdeen; sisters, Mabel Daniels of Hampton, Va., Alma Seward of Graham, Irene Douglas of Greensboro, Judy Dudley of Walkertown; brothers, Jimmy Garner, Larry Garner, both of Carthage, the Rev. Darrell Garner of Bear Creek, Robert Garner of Vass; 12 grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

The family will be at Fry-Prickett Funeral Home, Carthage, 7-9 p.m. Monday, other times at the home of Phyllis Taylor, 1336 McCaskill Road, Carthage.

Garland M. Garner

Garland McDonald Garner, 91, of 1306 Old Cox Road Apt. No. 18, Cross Road Retirement Village, Asheboro, died Tuesday, Aug. 18, 1998, at his home.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, with John Dortch, Bo Chriscoe and Eric Branson officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery.

He was a native of Davidson County, owned and operated G & G Cattle Sales, worked at Bossong Hosiery Mill for 27 years and retired from Klopman Mills after 10 years.

Surviving are wife, Annie Neal Skeen Garner of the home; daughters, Neal Branson, Ruby Lee, both of Asheboro, Ann Garner Chriscoe of Gastonia; son, Mike Garner of Shawnee, Okla.; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.

The family will be at the funeral home after the committal service.

A graveside service will be 4 p.m. Wednesday at Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. David Cunha officiating.

She was a native of Randolph County and a secretary for Nall-Roack Insurance Agency, Greensboro.

Surviving are a sister and a brother.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Randleman, 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Mary S. Dark

LIBERTY - Mary Sue Dark, 78, died Monday, Aug. 17, 1998, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, Greensboro.

Irene S. Binkley

SILER CITY - Irene Swain Binkley, 71, of 124 N. Garden Ave., died Sunday, Aug. 16, 1998, at High Point Regional Hospital.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Oakley Baptist Church Cemetery, Siler City, with the Rev. Timothy A. Howell officiating.

She was a member of Oakley Baptist Church.

Surviving are husband, Ashley T. "Possum" Binkley of Siler City; daughter, Joy B. Barker of Franklinville; sisters, Beatrice Tucker of Siler City, O'Bera Brooks of Asheville; two grandchildren.

The family will be at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City, 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, other times at the home.

Tommy L. Galyon

AMARILLO, Texas - Tommy Lee Galyon, 69, died Friday, Aug. 14, 1998, at Baptist/St. Anthony Hospital, Amarillo, Texas.

A memorial service was 2 p.m. Monday at First Christian Church, Amarillo, Texas.

He was a native of Loudon, Tenn., a graduate of Randleman High School, attended Guilford College and had served in the U.S. Navy and was a retired U.S. Air Force veteran after 22 years.

Surviving are son, Gregory Lee Galyon of Fort Worth, Texas; brother, Lawrence E. Galyon of Moore Haven, Fla.; sisters, Sue Saunders of Bradenton, Fla., Peggy Dewhurst of Newton, Margaret Preston of Albemarle, Dorothy Pickler of Randleman; three grandsons.

Pugh Funeral Home, Randleman, is in charge of local arrangements.

Blanche G. Hancock

Blanche G. Hancock, 76, formerly of Seagrove, died Wednesday, Aug. 19, 1998, at Mountain Trace Nursing Center, Sylva.

Garland M. Garner

Garland McDonald Garner, 91, of 1306 Old Cox Road Apt. No. 18, Cross Road Retirement Village, Asheboro, died Tuesday, Aug. 18, 1998, at his home.

Beatrice Pauline Hunt Wilson, 80, of 1204 Ben Lambeth Road, Asheboro, died Tuesday, Aug. 18, 1998, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at New Union United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Jean Nall and the Rev. Lee Roy Hunt officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County, attended New Union Methodist Church and was a homemaker.

Surviving are husband, James Bennie Wilson of the home; daughter, Linda W. Lucas of Asheboro; sons, Lloyd Wilson, Wayne Wilson, George T. "Buck" Wilson, James R. Wilson, all of Asheboro; sisters, Gladys Davis, Hazel Harvell, Ola Mae Spencer, all of Asheboro; brother, Melvin Hunt of Asheboro; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, other times at the home of a son, Lloyd Wilson, 1935 Dover St., Asheboro.

Milo Deaton Jr.

STALEY - Milo Deaton Jr., 75, died Monday, Aug. 17, 1998, at Randolph Hospital.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Randolph Memorial Park, with the Rev. Tim Wolfe officiating.

He was a native of Randolph County, a World War II U.S. Marine veteran and a retired painter.

Surviving are daughters, Phyllis Saunders of Asheboro, Teresa Cash of Fayetteville; son, Gary Wayne Deaton of Ramseur; sisters, Susie Stuart of Ramseur, Beulah Wall of High Point, Rosa Lee Perry of Fayetteville; brother, J.P. Deaton of Ramseur; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Liberty, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, other times at the home of Hazel Deaton, 831 Low Bridge Road, Ramseur.

Lucille J. Skeen

DENTON - Lucille Jones Skeen, 78, of 19023 South N.C. 109, died Tuesday, Aug. 18, 1998, at her home.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Mountain View Memorial Gardens Cemetery, with the Rev. Peter McGuire officiating.

She was a native of Rowan County, attended Lineberry United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Alice Loflin Sunday School class, a retired employee of Thorton Knitting Co. and was a former member of Denton Ladies Civitan.

Surviving are husband, Wessie H. Skeen of the home; daughters, Jo Ann Latham of Denton, Nancy Sue Hartley of Lexington; two grandchildren.

The family will be at Briggs Funeral Home, Denton, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesday.

She was a native of Stanly County, a member of Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church and retired from Milliken Company.

Surviving are son, William Herbert Hooker of Carthage; sisters, Blevin S. Brown of Robbins, Virginia Hinshaw of Burlington; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

He was a native of Pikeville, Tenn., and the vice president of Telephone Communications of Asheboro.
