Jewell K. Kearns
GREENSBORO - Jewell Kerns Kearns, 89, of 3511 Kirby Drive, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2003, while visiting relatives in Virginia Beach, Va.
Graveside service will be Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2003, at 11 a.m. at Forest Lawn Cemetery, conducted by Dr. Fred Horner.
Mrs. Kearns was born and was reared in Montgomery County. She graduated from Elon College in 1942 with degrees in home economics and science. She earned her masters degree at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She was a member of the Tau Zeta Phi Sorority. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church where she was active in the Fellowship Sunday School Class, the Bethany Circle as well as other circles at the church. Mrs. Kearns taught eighth- and ninth-grade home economics in the Guilford County and Greensboro School systems for over 35 years. She was a member of the Greensboro Woman's Club. She enjoyed being with her family, sewing, gardening and all of her many pets throughout the years.
She is survived by her daughter, Rebecca Kearns Baynes of Greensboro; sisters, Virginia Boyd of Charlotte, Marie Thomas and her husband, John, of Hoffman, Lou Jordan and her husband, James, of Covington, Ga., Becky Lynch and her husband, John, of Dundee, Ill., Christine Ganiko and her husband, Gus, of Pensacola, Fla., and Betsy Reavis of Goldsboro; granddaughter, Elizabeth Baynes of Reston, Va.; brother-in-law, David L. Kearns of Greensboro; sister-in-law, Virginia C. Kerns of Newport News, Va. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews whom she dearly loved.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of over 60 years, E. Dale Kearns, by her parents, Neil and Laura Kerns, and by her brother, Richard Kearns, whom she was visiting in Virginia Beach at the time of her death. Richard died four hours after Mrs. Kearns' death.

ASHEBORO - Burnice Newell Cox, 82, of 1452 Cox Brothers Road, Asheboro, died Sunday, Nov. 30, 2003, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, Greensboro.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, with the Rev. Terry Kersey officiating. Burial will be in Holly Spring Friends Meeting Cemetery.
He was a native of Randolph County, retired from the N.C. Dept. of Transportation after 39 years and a member of the Disabled American Veterans. He attended Holly Spring Friends Meeting and was a World War II U.S. Army veteran.
Surviving are wife, Bessie Reece Cox of the home; sons, Mike Cox of Asheboro, Gary Cox of Ramseur; daughter, Sara King of Seagrove; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
The family will be at the funeral home 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, other times at the home.

ASHEBORO - Annie Jordan Honeycutt, 80, of Britthaven of Jacksonville, died Monday, Dec. 1, 2003, at Britthaven of Jacksonville.
Memorial graveside service will be at a later date.
She was a native of Moore County, the widow of George Calvin, a retired textile worker and of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are sons, Gary Stalker of Currie, Roger Stalker of Tacoma, Wash.; brother, Joe Laughlin of Asheboro; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.

RANDLEMAN - Mary Frances Yow Chrisco, 64, of 3047 George York Road, died Sunday, Nov. 30, 2003, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, Greensboro.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Giles Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Thurman Jenkins officiating.
She was a native of Randolph County, a security guard at Eveready and she attended the Church of God.
Surviving are husband, Bernest Chrisco of Randleman; daughters, Debra W. Courtney of Atlanta, Ga., Sheri L. Robbins of Ramseur, Stephana R. Robbins of Liberty; son, Stephen Derek Walker of Liberty; mother, Bertha W. Yow of Asheboro; brothers, Ronald Yow and Donald Yow, both of Asheboro; sister, Jo Ellen Lawson of Asheboro; seven grandchildren.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Franklinville Pentecostal Holiness Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Danny Penny officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery, Asheboro.
She was a native of Randolph County, an employee of Elastex, Inc. and a choir member at her church.

She was a native of Chatham County, the widow of Seth E. Teague and retired from Siler City Hosiery Mill.

She was a native of Surry County, the widow of W. Curtis Hussey and a homemaker.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Pleasant Grove Christian Church, with the Rev. Chris Wood and the Rev. Darrell Williams officiating. Burial will be in the Cox Family Cemetery.
She was a native of Montgomery County and owner and operator of Linda's Boutique, Bennett.

Barbara M. Sheppard
SALISBURY - Barbara Maness Sheppard, 58, formerly of Siler City, died Friday, Nov. 28, 2003, in Rowan Regional Medical Center.
A private memorial service will be at a later date on the farm in Siler City.
She was a native of Siler City, the widow of Charles Armond Sheppard and attended Chatham County schools. She was a graduate of Sanford Business College and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro with a B.A. in business administration. She was formerly employed with Golden Corral Restaurant chain in marketing and management and in the temporary employment agency business in management and placement. She was the second vice chair of the Chatham County Democratic Party, on the Board of Directors for Piedmont Conservation Council and of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are Albert Everhardt Jr. of the home; daughter, Barbara Catherine Sheppard of Siler City.

She was a native of Asheboro, the widow of Milton S. Parker and the Associational Director of the Baptist Training Union for the District of Randolph County. She was a volunteer for obtaining housing for military families in Virginia and a member of the Lincoln Ladies Club.
Surviving are sister, Eunice Lee "Peggy" Underwood Robinson of Oldsmar, Fla.; three grandchildren; four great-granddaughters.

ASHEBORO - Derrick Andrew "Andy" Pate, 33, of 2436 Creekway Ridge Road, Asheboro, died Sunday, Nov. 30, 2003, at his home.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Dec. 3 at 3 p.m. at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with Elder Johnny Ray Gardner officiating. Burial will follow in Randolph Memorial Park.
Mr. Pate was a native of Randolph County and he attended Asheboro High School. He was formerly employed with Elastic Therapy, Inc., and preceded in death by his father Bill Pate Jr.
He is survived by his mother, Brenda King Pate of Asheboro; brother, Scott Pate of Asheboro; grandmothers, Addie King of Star, Lillie Pearl Pate of Raleigh; aunts, Mary Belle Pate of Raleigh, Nancy Stultz of Asheboro, Mary Lewin of Cocoa, Fla.; uncles, Bill King of Randleman, Harold King, Charles King and Gary King, all of Troy.

KINGS MOUNTAIN - Hallie Thomas Bennett, 87, resident of 900 Church St., died Sunday, Nov. 30, 2003, at White Oak Manor, Shelby.
She was born in Rockingham County. She was the daughter of the late John and Lila Lillard Thomas Thomas and the wife of the late Norman Oscar Bennett. She was also preceded in death by son, Kenneth R. Bennett. She was a member of Huldah Baptist Church, Seagrove, and retired from the textile industry.
Surviving are sons, Charles N. Bennett and wife Diane of Holden Beach, Thomas S. Bennett and wife Faye of Kings Mountain; daughter, Ruth B. Shingleton and husband Royce of Albany, Ga.; sister, Belva T. King of Asheboro; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren.
Graveside service will be at Huldah Baptist Church Cemetery, Seagrove, Wednesday, Dec. 3 at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Wayne VonCannon, officiating.
The visitation will be 10:30-11 a.m. Wednesday at Huldah Baptist Church Fellowship Hall, Seagrove.
