ASHEBORO - Arthur William Wright, age 56, of 5619 Lassiter Mill Road, Asheboro, died Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2003, in Asheboro.
A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 11, 2003, at Pugh Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. John Walorth officiating.
Mr. Wright was a native of Owosso, Mich., and employed with PWS Industries in Siler City. He was preceded in death by his parents, Darrell J. and Ruth Thornburg Wright.
He is survived by his brother and his wife, David and Jane Wright of Kalamazoo, Mich.; niece, Kathleen Wright of Traverse City, Mich.; niece and her husband, Emily and Paul Lott of Lansing, Mich.; nephew, Ben Wright of Kalamazoo, Mich.
The family requests memorial contributions be made to charity of donor's choice.
Allen H. Watkins Sr.
GREENSBORO - Allen Harrison Watkins, Sr., 97, died Saturday, Dec. 6, 2003, at Wesley Long Hospital in Greensboro.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday, Dec. 9, at 2 p.m. in Guilford Memorial Park.
Mr. Watkins was a member of West Market Street United Methodist Church. He graduated from Sewanee University and was an aviation enthusiast and a licensed pilot since 1923. He was a member of Sedgefield Country Club and member emeritus of Southern Seniors Golf Association. During his service in World War II, he was the Base Commander of Coastal Patrol Base #16 in Manteo. Mr. Watkins had a long career in the textile industry.
He is survived by his sons, John A. Watkins, Allen H. "Buddy" Watkins Jr., both of the Outer Banks, and David C. Watkins of Atlanta; his grandchildren, Stewart Forsbrand of PonteVidre, Fla., Hunter Watkins of New York and Kitty Watkins Sydnor of Greensboro; two great-grandchildren, Alexander and Margeaux Forsbrand, and his niece, Mary Spencer Ferchaud of Greensboro. He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Elizabeth Adams Watkins in 1983.
Visitation will be held in the Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home, Sedgefield Chapel, Greensboro, following the graveside service.

ASHEBORO - Eleanor Marjorie Winant McCarthy, 92, of Asheboro, died Monday, Dec. 8, 2003, at her home.
Funeral service is 11 a.m. Thursday at First Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Sherman Waters officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.
She was a native of Cortland, N.Y., and was retired from the Social Security Administration. She was of the Methodist faith and had attended Sunset Avenue Church of God. She was the widow of Timothy W. McCarthy.
Surviving are two daughters, one son, 14 grandchildren, seven great- grandchildren.
The family will be at Ridge Funeral Home, Ashe- boro, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday.

ASHEBORO - Eunice Shaw Williams, 86, of 483 Ridge St., Asheboro, died Monday, Dec. 8, 2003, at SunBridge Care & Rehabilitation of Asheboro.
Graveside service is 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Oaklawn Cemetery with the Rev. Adrian Pugh officiating.
She was a native of Mt. Airy and retired from Rampon. She was the widow of George Williams.
Surviving are sister, Olean Berry of Black Mountain; one granddaughter.

She was a Stanley County native and retired from Sapona Mfg.

DENTON - Helen Greer Tysinger Harrison, 76, of Huntington Drive, died Monday, Dec. 8, 2003, at Thomasville Medical Center.
Funeral service is 2 p.m. Thursday at Taylor's Grove Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Tommy Tysinger and the Rev. Eddie Hill officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
She was a Davidson County native and a former employee of Burlington Industries, Klopman Plant.

Tysinger of Swansboro and Allen Greer of Cleveland, Tenn.; daughters, Jackie Hunt, Jan Surratt and Athena Tolbert, all of Denton; 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; halfsister, Louise Michael of Lexington.

Steve Brittain
ASHEBORO - Thomas Steven Brittain, 56, of 970 Tamworth Road, Asheboro, died at his home on Monday, Dec. 8, 2003.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 12, 2003, at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Mike Holder, Rev. Tim Brittain and Dr. J.C. Grose officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Mr. Brittain was born in Princeton, N.C., on Sept. 1, 1947, to the late A.C. and Louise Thomas Brittain. He grew up in Raleigh, N.C., was a graduate of Needham Broughton High School and attended North Carolina State University. He was a member of Edenton Street United Methodist Church in Raleigh and later became a member of First United Methodist Church in Asheboro where he served on boards and committees, a former Disciple class teacher, and was closely involved in the formation of Christian United Outreach Center. He was the founder and Executive Director of Christian Companions, an organization that provides shut-ins and their caregivers with companionship, encouragement, confidence, support and prayer, as well as being a listener, friend and helping with daily chores. He was also instrumental in developing the volunteers of Christian Companions in their training. He was a very successful businessman, owning and operating All Brand Appliances in Troy, N.Y., along with other businesses and developing commercial and residential real estate. He established the Troy, N.Y., chapter of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and served two terms as president. In 1987, Mr. Brittain retired and moved to Asheboro in order to care for his mother.
Survivors include his daughter, Annette Borchert, and husband Rick, of Asheboro; grandchildren, Rikki Borchert V, Evangeline Borchert; aunt, Vista Bustle, uncle and aunt, Hugh and Winnie Brittain; close relatives, Judy and Farid Wilssa; close companion, Matilda Phillips.
The family will receive friends at Ridge Funeral Home on Thursday, Dec. 11, 2003, from 7-9 p.m. and other times at his home.

SALISBURY - Lucy Coble Routh, 103, died Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2003, at Lutheran Home at Trinity Oaks in Salisbury.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Loflin Funeral Home, Liberty, with the Rev. Douglas Miller of Grays Chapel United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be at Coble Lutheran Church Cemetery, Julian.
She was a Randolph County native and the widow of husbands, Cecil Clyde Coble and Lester K. Routh.
Surviving are son, Robert "Bob" L. Coble of Salisbury; stepsons, Sylvan Routh of Franklinville, L.K. Routh of Asheboro; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
The family will be at the funeral home Friday, 9:45 a.m.-10:45 a.m. prior to the service.
Charles R. Blake
GREENVILLE - Charles R. "Dick" Blake, 72, died Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2003, at Pitt County Memorial Hospital.
Funeral service is 2 p.m. Saturday at Fairview Baptist Church, Carthage Road, West End. Burial will be at Harris Family Cemetery, Carthage.
He was a native of Pinehurst, a graduate of East Carolina University and a graduate of George Washington University in Washington, D.C. He was a career Air Force officer, retiring as Colonel in 1975 and a Vietnam veteran. In addition to various operational assignments, he served in the Pentagon on the staff of the Secretary of the Air Force. He also served in the office of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. He received numerous decorations, including the Air Medal and the Legion of Merit. He served as assistant to the Chancellor at East Carolina University and served on the Governor's Commission on Reserve and Military Affairs. After retiring he managed Blake Rental Properties in Onslow County. He was the widower of Nina Blake.
Surviving are sons, Charles R. Blake II of Kinston, Elliott Blake of the home; daughters, Susan Blake of New York City, Christina Blake of Greenville; two grandchildren; brothers, Lt. Col. James L. Blake of Alexandria, Va., and Dr. Gerald W. Blake of Raleigh.
The family will be at Fry & Prickett Funeral Home, Carthage, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Friday and will be in the fellowship hall at the church following the ceremony.

SILER CITY - Virginia Dare Thomas Richardson, 75, of 901 Woodland Drive, died Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2003, at Carolina House of Cary in Cary.
Funeral service is 11 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Jim Wall officiating. Burial will be in Chatham Memorial Park.
She was a Rockingham County native and a member of the Philathea Sunday School Class, the choir, the Joy in the Morning Club and the Quilting Club at her church. She was a member of the Eastern Star and the Geritol Group. She was a 1945 graduate of Burlington High School and retired from the Chatham Hospital Radiology Department. She was the widow of Richard "Tonto" Richardson.
Surviving are sons, Jay Richardson of New Hill, Pat Richardson of Cary and Michael Richardson of Dallas, Texas; brother, Gene Thomas of Burlington; one granddaughter.

She was a Montgomery County native and a retired educator, having taught at the Bonlee, Troy and Eldorado schools.

He was a Montgomery County native.

ASHEBORO - Exie Oleta Cagle Lassiter, 93, formerly of 2511 Old N.C. 49, Asheboro, died Thursday, Dec. 11, 2003, at Randolph Hospital in Asheboro.
Funeral service will be conducted 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, 2003, at New Union United Methodist Church with the Rev. Lee Roy Hunt and the Rev. Jean Nall officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
A native of Randolph County, Mrs. Lassiter was born April 21, 1910, to the late Matthew and Louella Vuncannon Cagle. She was a homemaker, a member of New Union United Methodist Church and belonged to the United Methodist Women. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Lassiter; her son, Darrell Lassiter; and a grandson, Kris Talbert.
Survivors include her daughter, Evelyn L. Jester and husband, Fred, Linda L. Talbert and husband Jerry, all of Asheboro; sons, Donnie Lassiter and wife Martha of Asheboro, Larry W. Lassiter and wife, Deloris, of Troy; sister, Myrtle Auman of Asheboro; sister-in-law, Ora Cagle of Asheboro; grandchildren, Amy Cagle, Donna Hyder, Wayne Lassiter, Renee Lassiter, Randy Talbert, Shantel Coble, Rhonda Trollinger; nine great-grandchildren.

She was a Randolph County native, a homemaker and formerly employed with Walker Shoe Store for 15 years. She was a member of Central Carolina Community Church.
Surviving are husband J.B. Vestal; daughter, Wanda R. Robbins of Asheboro; sons, Jack B. Vestal Jr. of Coleridge, Jeff Vestal of the home; brother, Gene Strickland of Asheboro; sister, Margie Phillips of Asheboro; three grandchildren.

He was a Guilford County native and of the Baptist faith. He was a self-employed handyman.
