Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Big Oak Church of God, Star, with the Rev. Dean. Wolfe and the Rev. Dan Neely officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Randolph County and an employee with Tho-masville Interiors. He attended Asheboro High School and Victory Fellowship Church.

Surviving are father and stepmother, Greg and Joy D. Winslow of Asheboro; mother, Suewana Morris of Siler City; stepmother, Rhonda Shaw of Randleman; half sister, Stephanie Shaw of Randleman; half brother, Justin Greene of Randleman; grandmothers, Ruth Morris of the home, Susan Brown of Randleman; grandfather and stepgrandmother, Bobby and Margaret Morris of Conway, S.C.; uncles, Darrell Morris and Greg Morris, both of the home; aunt, Penny Morris of the home.

JULIAN - Joseph Henry "Joe" Frye, 86, died Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2003, at Wesley Long Community Hospital in Greensboro.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Loflin Funeral Home, Liberty, with the Rev. Rowland Shepley and the Rev. Scott Baxley officiating. Burial will be in Gilmore Memorial Park.

He was a native of Guilford County, the widower of Martha Welker Frye, a farmer and an employee of Neese's Sausage Company and Blue Bell Central Shop.

Surviving is daughter, Margaret Blunt of Julian; sisters, Ada Bates of Ararat, Elizabeth Cain of Pinnacle, Estelle Childress of Danville, Va.; brother, George Frye of Asheboro.

The family will be at the funeral home 6:30-8:30 p.m. Friday.

HICKORY - Jeffery Kenneth Jones, 38, died Sunday, Dec. 14, 2003, in Fallowfield, Pa.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Bass-Smith Funeral Home, Hickory, with the Rev. A.E. Shell officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.

He was a native of Three Rivers, Mich., an employee of J.B. Hunt Transport Co., Lowell, Ark., a volunteer with Drowning Creek Fire Department and a member of the Burke County React Team.

Jones and Jessica Jones, both of Hildebran; mother, Rhelda Raisor Jones of Asheboro; father, George Jones of Coldwater, Mich.; brother, Brian Jones of Hickory; sister, Michelle Lewellyn of Asheboro; brother, Nicholas Plemmons of Hickory; stepsisters, Toni Jones of Coldwater, Mich., Becky Jones of Madison, Ind.

She was a native of Randolph County, an employee of Arrow International and a member of Covenant Christian Church, Asheboro.

FRANKLINVILLE - Lois Caudle Aldridge, 81, of 3527 Bethany Church Road, died Friday, Dec. 19, 2003, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Bethany United Methodist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Curran Welch officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Surry County and a retired bookkeeper.

Surviving are brothers, Clarence Caudle and Glyn Caudle, both of Franklinville.

RANDLEMAN - Cheryl Ann Merritt, 49, of 103 Swaim St., died Thursday, Dec. 18, 2003, at her home.

Memorial service will be 3 p.m. Monday at Golden Gate Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dewey Cheek officiating.

She was a native of Wilmington, Ohio, the widow of Howard Merritt and a member of Golden Gate Baptist Church, Asheboro.

Surviving are daughter, Adriana Noelle Slagle of Randleman; mother, Dorothy Slagle of Sabina, Ohio; brothers, Kevin Slagle and Larry Slagle, both of Deland, Fla., Bob Slagle of Randleman.

The family will be at the church immediately after the memorial service on Monday.

SEAGROVE - Elvin Ernest McNeill, 73, of 229 Leather Road, died Thursday, Dec. 18, 2003, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, with Pastor Bucky Davis and the Rev. Jamie Melton officiating. Burial will be in Union Grove Baptist Church cemetery.

He was a native of Randolph County and a retired sawmill worker.

Surviving are wife, Gerry McAvoy McNeill of the home; daughters, Ann Luther of Seagrove, Kay Blouk of Peoria, Ill.; stepdaughters, Tina Guined of Attalla, Ala., Kimberly Knowles of Rome, Ga.; sons, Kenneth McNeill of Gainesville, Ga., Dean McNeill of Dahlonega, Ga.; mother, Lucille McNeill of Seagrove; sisters, Loberta Rush of Liberty, Frances Blanton of Clermont, Fla.; brother, Ray McNeill of Davenport, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren.

He was a native of Moore County, a member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, a member of Woodmen of the World and a retired supervisor at Milliken Co.

Surviving are wife, Margaret Kidd Maness of the home; son, Gary T. Maness of Robbins; one granddaughter; one great-grandson.

The family will be at Kennedy Funeral Home, Robbins, 7-9 p.m. Saturday, other times at the home.

Margaret J. Ehlerding
TROY - Margaret Elizabeth Jenkins Ehlerding, 81, of 516 Wallace Ave., Apt #14B, died Friday, Dec. 19, 2003, at Autumn Care of Biscoe.

A private memorial service will be held for the family.

She was a native of Stanly County, a self-employed sales person and she attended Troy Wesleyan Church.

Surviving are husband, Roy A. Ehlerding Sr. of the home; son, Roy A. Ehlerding Jr. of Pickerington, Ohio; daughter, Linda Bates of San Diego, Calif.; brother, George Jenkins of Troy.

Pugh-Troy Funeral Home, Troy, is in charge of arrangements.

Merilene R. Dorsett
BISCOE - Merilene Robbins Dorsett, 74, of 401 Lambert Road, formerly of Poplar Springs Rest Home, Star, died Friday, Dec. 19, 2003, at FirstHealth Montgomery Memorial Hospital, Troy.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Phillips Funeral Home, Star, with the Rev. Mike E. Holyfield officiating. Burial will be in Flag Springs United Methodist Church Cemetery, Asheboro.

She was a native of Montgomery County.

Surviving are son, Nathan Dorsett of Star; brother, Henry Paige Robbins of Asheboro; sisters, Connie Hulin, Alma Wilkerson and Nellie Wooten, all of Asheboro.

The family will be at the funeral home 1-2 p.m. Sunday, prior to the service.

Thomas H. Koerber
MUNCIE, Ind. - Thomas H. Koerber, 61, died Monday, Dec. 15, 2003, at Ball Memorial Hospital.

Funeral service was 1 p.m. Friday at Elm Ridge Funeral Home, Muncie, Ind.

He was a 1968 graduate of Franklin College with a degree in electrical engineering, an electrical engineer for Westinghouse and ABB, a U.S. Air Force veteran and a member of Eagles of Anderson and Elk of Anderson, Ind.

Surviving are wife, Georgie M. Knight Koerber; daughters, Elnora M. Sexton, Patricia A. Young, Lara Hall, Melanie Hutchinson, Georgianna Matz; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Moose of Muncie.

RANDLEMAN - Beverly Crowson Butcher, 66, of 5225 Old Greensboro Road, died Friday, Dec. 19, 2003, in Randolph Hospital,

She was a native of Randolph County, a retired employee of Jockey International, Randleman, and a member of First Baptist Church, Randleman.

Surviving are daughter, Karen Butcher of Randleman; sons, Jeffrey Butcher of Randleman, Randy Butcher of Asheboro, Michael Butcher of Lexington, Eddie Butcher of Seagrove; brothers, Paul Crowson of Haw River, Johnny Crowson of Alabama, Bill Crowson of Winston-Salem, Joe Crowson of Archdale, Tommy Crowson of Siler City; 14 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

David M. Fowler
HIGH POINT - David Michael Fowler, 56, of 908 Garnett Drive, died Friday, Dec. 19, 2003.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Monday at Bales Memorial Wesleyan Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Doug Dennis officiating. Burial will be in Hickory Chapel Wesleyan Church cemetery.

He was a native of Newport News, Va.

Surviving are sister, Wilma Witcher of Thomasville; brothers, Leon Fowler of Asheboro, Jimmy Fowler of Thomasville, Donald Fowler of High Point.

The family will be at Sechrest Family Funeral Care, Archdale, 7-8:30 p.m. Sunday.

GREENSBORO - Nicholas Hall died Sunday, Dec. 14, 2003, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, Greensboro.

Surviving are mother, Crystal Hall Siler of Greensboro; father, Andrew "Tyrone" Rorie of Greensboro; brothers, Brandon Siler, Joshua Rorie, Bronson Hall, all of Greensboro; sisters, Brooke Siler, Kia Boone, Keela Rorie, all of Greensboro; grandmother, Norvia Siler of Modesto, Calif.

DENTON - Robert Edward Saunders, 73, of 4114 Salem Church Road, died Friday, Dec. 19, 2003, at his home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Christian Life Freewill Baptist Church, Thomasville, where he was a charter member, with the Rev. Gary Brown, the Rev. Holland Norris and the Rev. Louis Lambert officiating. Burial will be in Mountain View Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Denton, with military honors.

He was a native of Davidson County, a retired job foreman with R.F. Shinn Contractors, Concord, a chairman of the deacons' board at his church and a U.S. Army veteran.

Surviving are wife, Annie Hulin Saunders; daughters, Rhonda Surratt, Paget Wilson and Robin Spencer, all of Denton; brothers, Paul Sanders of Wilmington, Billy Sanders of Denton; sisters, Odena Doby of Denton, Jane Parrish of Seagrove, Diane Carter of Sophia; five grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Briggs Funeral Home, Denton, 6-8 p.m. Sunday, other times at the home.

Gertrude B. Brafford
GOLDSTON - Gertrude Black Brafford, 95, of 2151 Goldston-Carbonton Road, died Saturday, Dec. 20, 2003, at Central Carolina Hospital, Sanford.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Center United Methodist Church, Sanford, where she was a member, with the Rev. Richard Farmer, the Rev. Ray Gooch and the Rev. James Whittaker officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Lee County and a homemaker.

Surviving are daughter, Shirley B. Hart of Goldston; sons, Tommy Brafford of Level Cross, Dale Brafford of Wingate; sister, Nanny Spivey of Tramway; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City, 6-8 p.m. Monday, other times at the home of the daughter, 2066 Goldston-Carbonton Road, Goldston.

MT. GILEAD - Samuel Thomas, 85, died Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2003, in Mariner Health Care of Asheboro.

Funeral service will be 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Mt. Airy A.M.E. Zion Church. Burial will be in Thomasville Baptist Church cemetery.

He was a native of Richmond County, the widower of Hattie Lee Dumas Thomas, a retired employee of McRae Shoe Factory and a member of Thomasville Baptist Church.

Surviving are sons, Samuel Thomas and Arlando Harris, both of Brooklyn, N.Y., Roscoe Thomas of Mt. Gilead, Napoleon Thomas of Durham, Harry Thomas of Rockingham, James Thomas, Jeffrey Thomas, Rickie Thomas, all of Creedmore; daughters, Rose Dockery and Jenny Ruth Causer, both of Brooklyn, N.Y., Mary Jane Simmons of Mt. Gilead; brother, Maston Thomas of Mt. Gilead; 38 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the church 2:30-3:30 p.m. Sunday, prior to the service.

ASHEBORO - Emily Clayton Hatley, 59, of 2100 Lambert Drive, Asheboro, died Saturday, Dec. 20, 2003, at her mother-in-law's home, 522 Uwharrie St.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Mt. View Independent Methodist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. David Hunt officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County, a retired Randolph County dispatcher after 23 years, who was with the Sheriff's Department, the Asheboro City Police and the Randolph County 911 System. She also worked with Jennifer's Learning Center.

Surviving are husband, Jerry Hatley of Asheboro; son, Jerry Grady "Jay" Hatley Jr. of Asheboro; daughters, Krista H. Trotter and Jennifer H. Miller, both of Asheboro; brothers, Roger Clayton, Ronald Clayton, both of Asheboro; 10 grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, 6-8 p.m. Monday, other times at her mother-in-law's home.

Graveside service will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at Faith Temple Baptist Church Cemetery, Franklinville, with the Rev. Jeff Joyce officiating.

Surviving in addition to the parents are grandparents, Carla Earnhardt of Asheboro, Roger Cross of Randleman, Krista Childress of Franklinville; great-grandparents, Terri and Robert Mintz and Herbert and Becky Cross, all of Randleman, Mike Earnhardt of High Point, Barbara Trogdon of Franklinville.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, 1-2:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Ardist W. Holyfield Sr.
SOPHIA - Ardist Waynard Holyfield Sr., 81, of 6970 U.S. 311, died Sunday, Dec. 21, 2003, at High Point Regional Hospital.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Pugh Funeral Home, Randleman, with the Rev. Kenneth L. Reaves officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

He was a native of Surry County, a World War II U.S. Army veteran and a retired truck driver of Swaim Manufacturing, High Point, after 22 years.

Surviving are wife, Wanda Webster Holyfield of Sophia; daughters, Linda Berriman of Trinity, Traci Holyfield of Sophia; sons, Ardist Holyfield Jr. of Sophia, John Robert Holyfield, Danny Louis Holyfield, both of Trinity; sister, Averlee Inman of Pine Bluff; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Monday.

Diffie W. Staley
RAMSEUR - Diffie Wade Staley, 76, of 554 Frazier Road, died Saturday, Dec. 20, 2003, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Billy Chriscoe officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Randolph County and retired from Weiman Furniture Co. after 21 years of service.

Surviving are wife, Martha Rose Staley of the home; sons, Anthony Staley and Benjamin Staley, both of Ramseur, Harry Staley and Timothy Staley, both of Franklinville; daughter, Janice Seawell of Seagrove; sisters, Thadea Maness of Seagrove, Inez Davis of Franklinville; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, 7-9 p.m. Monday, other times at the home of Benjamin Staley, 4145 Jones St. Ext., Ramseur.
