BENNETT - Mozelle Hussey Brady, 81, of 190 Brady Farm Road, died Mon-day, Jan. 26, 2004, at Kindred Hospital, Greensboro.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Highfalls Wesleyan Church, with the Rev. Roger Riffe and the Rev. James Cockram officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Moore County, the widow of Vernon G. Brady, a retired employee of Mastercraft in Siler City and she attended Highfalls Wesleyan Church.

Surviving are daughter, Bernice B. Geer of Bennett; son, Harvey G. Brady of Bennett; brothers, Richard Hussey and Elastor "Boob" Hussey, both of Robbins; five grandchildren; one stepgrandchild; three great-grandchildren; one stepgreat-grandchild.

The family will be at Joyce-Brady Funeral Home, Bennett, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, other times at the home of Paul and Bernice Geer, 505 Charlie Garner Road, Bennett.

Myrtis Whitbeck
LILLINGTON - Myrtis Williamson Whitbeck, 83, of 1995 U.S 421 North, died Thursday, Jan. 22, 2004, at Parrish Nursing Center, Dunn.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Phillips Funeral Home, Star. Burial will be in Star House of Praise Cemetery.

She was a native of Montgomery County.

Surviving are daughter, Elizabeth Whitbeck of San Antonio, Texas; son, Robert Freeman of Florida; sister, Winnifred Ballard of Mt. Gilead.

The family will be at the funeral home, Star, 10-11 a.m. Wednesday.

Darren S. Kennedy
SOPHIA - Darren Scott Kennedy, 35, a resident of 4252 Old Marlboro Road, died Sunday, Jan. 25, 2004, at High Point Regional Hospital.

He was born Feb. 6, 1968, in Davidson County, a son to Richard Darrell Kennedy and the late Alice Vivian Peace Kennedy. Darren had been a resident of the Sophia area most of his life and was of the Methodist faith.

Surviving are his father, Richard Darrell Kennedy of the home; brothers, Darrell Ray Kennedy and his friend, Hazel Phillips of Trinity, Richard Kevin Kennedy and wife, Candace of Archdale; sister, Belinda Howard and husband, Randy of Archdale; nieces, Christin and Corey Kennedy.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday afternoon at 2 p.m. at Hopewell United Metho-dist Church, with the Rev. Chris Bennett officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 7-8:30 p.m. at the Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale.

Memorials may be directed to Hopewell United Methodist Church Building Fund, 4512 Hopewell Church Road, Trinity, N.C. 27370.

Herbert Haith
SILER CITY - Herbert "Hub" Haith, 73, of 1205 N. Sears Ave., died Monday, Jan. 26, 2004, at his home.

Funeral service is 2 p.m. Saturday at Rock Creek A.M.E. Zion Church, with the Rev. Archie Evans officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was an Alamance County native and a retired construction worker.

Surviving are sister, Beatrice Y. Whitmore of Mebane; brothers, Johnny Haith of Pittsboro, McArther Haith of Siler City.

The family will be at the church 1:30-2 p.m. Saturday, prior to the service.

Farrar Funeral Home, Siler City, is in charge of arrangements.

Louise A. Kellis
GIBSONVILLE - Louise Asbill Kellis, 97, of 400 Steele St., died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2004, at Edgewood Place.

Funeral service is 11 a.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church of Gibsonville, where she was a member, with the Rev. Brian Ayers officiating. Burial will be in Alamance Memorial Park.

She was a Randolph County native, the widow of Martin A. Kellis and retired from Cone Mills.

Surviving are daughter, Margaret Allred; sister, Hattie Kennedy; W.L. Tilley and Delmar E. Tilley, for whom she was a legal guardian; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; one great-great-great-grandchild;

The family will be at Lowe Funeral Home, Burlington, 6-8 p.m. Thursday; other times at the home of the daughter, 728 Dick St., Gibsonville, and at the home of Lois Kellis, 504 Pebble Drive, Gibsonville.

Memorials may be made to the Building Fund of First Baptist Church of Gibsonville, 221 Piedmont Ave., Gibsonville, N.C. 27249.

Swannie C. Barringer
ROBBINS - Swannie Callicutt Barringer, 82, of 450 S. Middleton St., died Monday, Jan. 26, 2004, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service is 2 p.m. Saturday at Kennedy Funeral Home, Robbins, with the Rev. Dawes Graybeal officiating. Burial will be in Pine Rest Cemetery, Robbins.

She was a Montgomery County native and the widow of Charles F. Barringer Jr. She was a member of Elise Presbyterian Church where she served on the Board of Deacons, choir member, Women of the Church and Bible School teacher. She was a former member of the Robbins Woman's Club and Garden Club. She was a homemaker and a retired cosmetologist.

Surviving are daughter, Ann B. Haywood of Robbins; brother, James R. Callicutt Sr. of Robbins; sisters, Maxie C. Morrison of Clarksville, Va., Ruby C. Baldwin and Opal C. Kennedy, both of Robbins; one granddaughter.

The family will be at the funeral home 6-8 p.m. Friday; other times at the home.

Esther M. Wood
CARTHAGE - Esther McLawhorn Wood, 83, of Carthage, died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2004, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.

Funeral service is 3 p.m. Friday at Red Branch Baptist Church, with the Rev. Rudy Holland officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a Moore County native and the widow of Carmie Wood.

Surviving are daughters, Jean McDuffy, Inas Edgar and Edith Grant, all of Sanford, Ann Suddreth of West End, Nadine Borjeson of Carthage; son, Raymond Wood of Carthage; 13 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Fry & Prickett Funeral Home, Carthage, 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday and following the service in the church.

John C. Nicoles
ASHEBORO - John Cameron Nicoles, 80, of 613 Woodland Circle, Asheboro, died Tuesday, January 27, 2004, at his home.

The funeral service for Mr. Nicoles will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, 2004, at the Ridge Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. A.J. Kendrick officiating. Entombment will follow at Randolph Memorial Park.

Mr. Nicoles was born July 22, 1923, in Eau Claire, Wis. He was retired as a Master Chief from the U.S. Navy where he served during World War II and was a Pearl Harbor survivor. He was also a boiler inspector for an insurance company. Mr. Nicoles was a member of Am Vets, American Legion Post #45 and the VFW.

Survivors include his wife, LaVern Nicoles, of the home; stepson and wife, Richard and Rhonda Austin of Asheboro; grandchildren, Jennifer Bilby of Conway, S.C., Richard J. Austin of Delmar, N.Y., Tiffany Sutton of Asheboro; nine great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 30, 2004, at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, and other times at the home.

Ruby A. Thomas
FRANKLINVILLE - Ruby Allred Thomas, 91, formerly of Weatherly St., Franklinville, died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2004, at Clapp's Nursing Home in Asheboro.

Funeral service is 3 p.m. Saturday at Franklinville United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Bob Dowling officiating. Burial will be in Grays Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery.

She was a Randolph County native, retired from Randolph Mills and a member of the Franklinville United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Otus C. Thomas; brothers, Carlye Allred, Clayburn Allred and Ervin Allred; and nephew, Joseph E. "Eddie" Allred.

Surviving are brother, Vester Allred of Franklinville; and nieces, Cynthia A. Wilkins of Chapel Hill, Kathryn A. Allred of Woodlands, Texas.

The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Friday at the Loflin Funeral Home in Ramseur.

Stacie S. Pearce
DENTON - Stacie Skeen Pearce, 30, of Piedmont School Road, died suddenly Monday, Jan. 26, 2004, at Thomasville Medical Center in Thomasville.

Funeral service is 3 p.m. Friday at Lineberry United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Dan McClure, the Rev. Randy Lucas and the Rev. Mike McClellan officiating. Burial will be in Mountain View Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Stacie was born June 8, 1973, in Randolph County to James Milton and Linda Skeen Pearce. She was a graduate of Central Davidson High School and had served as a volunteer at Lexington Memorial Hospital and the Lexington-Davidson County Chapter of the American Red Cross. She was a member of Lineberry United Methodist Church. One of her favorite past-times was baby-sitting for her little cousin, William. Stacie was preceded in death by her grandparents, Newton and Annie Pearce and Edmond "Ed" Skeen.

Surviving are parents, Milton and Linda Pearce, of the home; grandmother, Nellie Skeen of Denton; aunts and uncles, Tony and Carol Stutts of Terrell, Eddie Skeen and Betty of Denton, Mike and Vickie Pearce of Asheboro; cousins, Cory, Carla, Mackenzie and Latt Stutts, William Skeen, Brooke and Tony Gordon.

The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday at Briggs Funeral Home in Denton and other times at the residence on Piedmont School Road.

Shirley B. Stewart
BENSON - Shirley Brewer Stewart, 67, of 285 Benson-Hardee Road, formerly of 2917 Mars St., Raleigh, died suddenly Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2004, at Rex Healthcare. Shirley was born in Randolph County on March 17, 1936, to the late Robert Roy Brewer and Nannie Brown Brewer. She worked for 17 years as Nursing Director until she went part-time as a Registered Nurse with Whitaker Glen. Shirley will be remembered as a wonderful daughter, a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister.

Funeral service is 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 1, 2004, at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service Chapel, Knightdale. Burial will be in Montlawn Memorial Park.

Surviving are daughter, Teresa Saunders and husband, Craig, of Rolesville, Belinda "Bo" Lusardi and husband, Michael, of Wake Forest; grandchildren, Tina Hill and Trevor Lusardi; sister, Geraldine B. Routh of Bennett; sister-in-law, Peggy S. Brewer of Asheboro.

The family will receive relatives and friends from 6-8 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, 2004, at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service and Crematory, 944 Old Knight Road, Knightdale, N.C. 27545.

Robert L. Owens
ASHEBORO - Robert Lee Owens, 79, of 310 W. Wainman Ave., Asheboro, died Saturday, Jan. 24, 2004, at Randolph Hospital.

Graveside service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Goldston United Methodist Church Cemetery, Goldston, with the Rev. Bob Wachs officiating.

He was a native of Randolph County, a World War II U.S. Navy veteran and a retired cook.

Surviving are wife, June Owens of Asheboro; daughter, Robyn O. Lechuga of Brea, Calif.; brother, Paul Owens of Oreland, Pa.; sister, Louise O. Roberson of Pittsboro; two grandchildren.

The family will be at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City, 7-9 p.m. Saturday, other times at the home of Jane Owens, 2319 S. Main St., Goldston.

Harvey R. Moore
SEAGROVE - Harvey Robert Moore, 64, of 3788 Busbee Road, died Sunday, Jan. 25, 2004, at his home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Needham's Grove Baptist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. James Cockram officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Moore County and a retired employee of Luck's Inc.

Surviving are son, Ricky Moore of Seagrove; daughter, Cathy M. Spivey of Biscoe; brothers, Clifford Moore Jr. of Star, Bill Moore, Charles Moore and Larry Moore, all of Seagrove; sisters, Margaret Cockman and Peggy Sturdivant, both of Robbins, Henrietta Garner of Seagrove; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

SILER CITY - Billy Hayes Mote, 77, of 2706 Hamp Stone Road, died Monday, Jan. 26, 2004, at his home.

He was a native of Bladen County, a retired employee of Branch Motor Express and a logger.

Cole of Siler City, Billie Jo James of Goldston, Mandy Mote; son, Chris Mote of Siler City; brothers, Nelson M. Mote of Orange, Va., David G. Mote of Siler City; seven grandchildren.

CARTHAGE - Glennie B. Williamson, 88, formerly of Carthage, died Monday, Jan. 26, 2004, at HCR Manor Care, Pinehurst.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Summer Hill Baptist Church, with Pastor Melvin Williamson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Moore County.

Surviving are son, Robert Everett of Aberdeen; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson.

H. Alonzo Morris
TROY - H. Alonzo Morris, 70, of Morris Circle, died Friday, Jan. 23, 2004, at FirstHealth Montgomery Memorial Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Grady Blakely officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Montgomery County, a fixer in the hosiery industry and an employee of Russell-Harvell Hosiery Mill, Mt. Gilead. He was a graduate of Troy High School and a U.S. Army veteran.

Surviving are daughters, Sylvia Deaton of Troy, Betty Jo Smith of Seagrove; sons, Charles Morris, Joseph Morris, Dale Morris, all of Troy; 10 grandchildren.

Briggs Funeral Home, Troy, is in charge of arrangements.

Lola F. Jones
ASHEBORO - Lola Moffitt Freeman Jones, 95, formerly of 959 Center St., Asheboro, died Monday, Feb. 2, 2004, at Mariner Health Care.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Asheboro City Cemetery, with the Rev. William Christopher Thore officiating.

She was a native of Randolph County, the widow of Pearly Freeman and Wiley Jones and a nurse at Griffin Clinic and Randolph Hospital.

Surviving are daughter, Joyce F. Coats of Saluda; son, Don V. Freeman of Asheboro; brother, J.D. Moffitt of Crawfordville, Fla.; sister, Fonnie Burke of Norcross, Ga.; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday.

She was a native of Randolph County, a homemaker, owner/operator of Gladys' Flower Shop for 28 years, and a member of the Cindy Coble Sunday School class at her church.

Surviving are husband, Robert N. Russell of the home; son, James Robert Russell of Advance; daughters, Shirley Cottrell of Grays Chapel, Barbara Moore and Mary Barker, both of Asheboro; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.
