STATESVILLE - Austin Ray Hunt, 62, of 234 Glenn Eagles Road, died Friday, Nov. 6, 1998, at Iredell Memorial Hospital.
Funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church, where he was a member, with Dr. Jack Causey officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Hickory.
He was a native of Randolph County, a deacon at his church, a member of the Greater Statesville Rotary Club, the Breakfast Civitan Club, the Appalachian Hardwood Manufacturers and the Appalachian Hardwood Lumbermen Association, a missionary and was owner and operator of Austin Lumber Co.
Surviving are wife, Mary Norton Hunt of the home; son, Ray N. Hunt of Mooresville; brothers, Bryce Hunt of Thomasville, Brooks Hunt ot Wallburg, Hines Hunt of Hickory; sisters, Edna Leonard of Thomasville, Lena Surratt of Denton; one grandson.

He was a native of Randolph County, retired after 23 years with J.P. Stevens, retired from Acme-McCrary, was a World War II veteran and a trustee at his church, where he had 41 years of perfect Sunday School attendance.
