A graveside service will be 4 p.m. Wednesday at Candor Cemetery, with the Rev. Mark S. Lawlor officiating.

CANDOR - Hilda Poole Kennedy, 72, of 120 E. Randolph St., died Tuesday, Nov. 10, 1998, at Autumn Care in Biscoe.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Community Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Fred Richardson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Montgomery County, the widow of James Ted Kennedy and a homemaker.

Surviving are son, Gary Kennedy of Asheboro; daughters, Judy Blake of Pekin, Janet Leach of Biscoe; brothers, Fred Poole of Harmony, L.J. Poole of Star; sisters, Velma Holt of Star, Bertha Slate of Thomasville; four grandchildren.

The family will be at Briggs-Candor Funeral Home, Candor, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday, other times at the home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at New Bensalem Missionary Baptist Church, with the Rev. Richard Bethea and the Rev. Charles Chalmers officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

PLEASANT GARDEN - G.E. "Gib" McGinnis, 87, of 6404 Vineyard Court, died Thursday, Nov. 12, 1998, at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Pleasant Garden Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Gilmore Memorial Park in Julian.

Surviving are wife, Ola G. McGinnis of the residence; four children; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the home Friday until 9 p.m.

EAST SPENCER - Udell Mills, 66, of 503 Long Street, formerly of Trinity, died Tuesday, Nov. 10, 1998, at the Veterans Hospital in Salisbury.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Haizlip Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Charles Tyson officiating. Burial will follow in the family plot in Westfield.

He was a native of Westfield and a veteran of the Korean War.

Surviving is a brother, Robert Mills of High Point.

The family will be at the funeral home 12:30 p.m. Saturday and other times at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Mills, 724 Willis Ave., High Point.

Ollie Padgett Gilliland, 88, of Asheboro Health and Rehabilitation Center, formerly of Ramseur, died Friday, Nov. 13, 1998, at her residence.

Funeral service will be 3:30 p.m. at Jordan Memorial United Methodist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Scott Owen officiating. Burial will be in Brush Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

She was a native of Rutherford County, a member of the Wayside Garden Club and the widow of Clyde Gilliland.

Surviving are son, Joseph C. Gilliland of New London; daughter, Oveta Hartsell of Winston-Salem; sister, Virginia Bridges of Charlotte; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the church 2 p.m. Sunday.

He was a native of Asheboro and a salesman for Skyview Digital Satellite Systems.

Surviving are father and stepmother, Darrell and Mary Rich of Asheboro; mother and stepfather, Jean and Jim Lemonds of Greensboro; brother, James Russell Rich of Asheboro; grandmothers, Doralena Rich and Martha Webb, both of Asheboro.

Raymond C. Hepler Sr.
GREENSBORO - Raymond Calvin Hepler Sr., of 239 W. N.C. 62, died Friday, Nov. 13, 1998, in his home.

Graveside service will be 3 p.m. Sunday in Floral Garden Park Cemetery in High Point.

He was a native of Randolph County, a graduate of Jones Business College, a World War II veteran and recipient of four Bronze Battle Stars, a member of DAV Chapter 22 in Greensboro, a charter member of the VFW Post in Archdale and retired after 22 years from Southland Life Insurance Company.

Surviving are wife, Genevieve Laura Danz Hepler of the home; daughters, Mary Elizabeth Rich of the home, Carol Ann Dills of Randleman, and Rebecca Sue Apergis of Burke, Va.; son, Raymond Calvin Hepler Jr. of High Point; brother, Joseph Hepler of Level Cross; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Cumby Funeral Home, Archdale, 2-3 p.m. Sunday.

He was a native of Montgomery County and a truck driver for STS Trucking.

Surviving are wife, Connie Greene Hicks of Randleman; daughters, Michelle H. Castle of Sophia and Alison Hicks of the home; son, Brandon T. Hicks of the home; mother, Alice Alexander of Asheboro; brother, David Hicks of Troy; one grandson.

TRINITY - Donald Eugene Pierce, 58, died Friday, Nov. 13, 1998, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Pugh Funeral Home Chapel in Asheboro with the Rev. Claude Byerly and Rev. Jeff Lamb officiating. Burial will be in Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church Cemetery.

He was a native of High Point, a Navy veteran and employed by Council Craftsmen in Denton.

Surviving are daughters, Donna Shaw of Denton and Sandy McHenry of Kannapolis; mother, Carlene Jones of Trinity; brother, Jack Jones of Trinity; sister, Ann Tucker of Silver Valley; four grandchildren.

John H. Rappe Jr.
MATTHEWS - John Howard Rappe Jr., 63, died Sunday, Nov. 8, 1998, at Presbyterian Hospital.

Memorial service was 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Johns Baptist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Dr. Richard Kremer officiating.

He was a native of Charlotte, an Army veteran of the Korean War, employed for 26 years with Barclays America and for 14 years with Carolina-Virginia Apparel Exhibitors, where he served on the board, and currently employed by ASCO Fence Co. He was president of the Charlotte Credit Managers Association and a member and on the board of directors of Southeastern Traveler Exhibitors.

Surviving are wife, Sue Gathings Rappe; son, John "Randy" Rappe of Mint Hill; daughters, Rebecca Rappe Byrd of Asheboro and Angela Rappe Bradshaw of Boise, Idaho; mother, Ann Brown Rappe of Charlotte; three granddaughters.

He was a native of Randolph County, retired carpenter and farmer and a retired deacon at his church.

Surviving are wife, Anna Lewis Coble of Asheboro; daughter, Pam Brown of Asheboro; brother, Earl Coble of Asheboro; two grandsons; one great-grandchild.

She was a native of Asheboro, a graduate of Central High School, Asheboro, Maco Beauty College in Greensboro and was a self-employed beautician. She was a member of Luther Kimbrough Missionary, former member of the Senior Choir at her church and was a member of Piedmont Cosmetologist Club #7, Criterion Club and the Mod-Tsun Bridge Club.

Surviving are nephew, Heager LeVoyd Hill, whom she raised; sisters, Rhodemia Cheltenham of High Point, Flossie Bell of Asheboro.

The family will be at the church noon Wednesday, other times at the home of Mr. and Mrs. James Chestnut, 1727 Stoneybrook Drive, High Point.
