TROY - Billy Grey Lassiter, 62, of 1798 Lovejoy Road, died Thursday, Nov. 19, 1998, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Lovejoy United Methodist Church in Troy, where he was a member, with the Rev. Jack Page officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Montgomery County, a U.S. Air Force veteran and a retired foreman with the N.C. Department of Transportation.

Surviving are wife, Betty Cox Lassiter of Troy; brothers, Rudy Lassiter and Tony Lassiter, both of Troy.

Memorials may be made to Lovejoy United Methodist Church Building Fund, 2656 Lovejoy Road, Troy, N.C. 27371.

Clara M. Pickard

SILER CITY - Clara Moore Pickard, 87, of 1089 Silk Hope Liberty Road, died Thursday, Nov. 19, 1998, at Sunrise Care Facilities in Siler City.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church in Siler City, where she was a member, with the Rev. Paul Edwards officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was the widow of Harvey C. Pickard.

Surviving are daughter, Hurlene Pickard Pike of Siler City; sisters, Ann Beck and Virginia Beck, both of Wadesboro, and Ruth King of Matthews; brother, Fred Moore of Roanoke; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Mt. Vernon Methodist Church, 3631 Mt. Vernon-Hickory Mountain Road, Siler City, N.C. 27344.

Cull M. Price Jr.

FRANKLINVILLE - Cull Madison Price Jr., of 3985 Jones St., died Wednesday Nov. 18, 1998.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Greater St. John's Baptist Church in Asheboro with the Rev. Harold Williams and Rev. James Brown officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

He was retired from Klopman.

Surviving are wife, Mary Frances Price of the home; sons, James Lester Price, Cull Price III and Mitchell Price, all of Asheboro; sisters, Bertha Mae Marsh of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Rosa Bell McCaskill of St. Peter; brother, Samuel Lee Price of Detroit, Mich.; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the church 1:30 p.m. Monday.

RANDLEMAN - Doris Eddins Pugh, 62, of 320 Dogwood Drive, died Friday, Nov. 20, 1998, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Neighbors Grove Wesleyan Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Paul Griffin and Rev. Darrell Scruggs officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

She was a native of High Point and employed by Arrow International.

Surviving are husband, Colon Pugh of Randleman; daughters, Pam Richardson of Asheboro and Donna Underwood of Randleman; stepson, Gary Pugh of Randleman; father and stepmother, James L. and Mary Eddins of High Point; stepfather, Arthur Worley of High Point; brother, David Eddins of Randleman; five grandchildren; one stepgrandson.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home Randleman 6-9 p.m. Sunday.

BURLINGTON - Carolyn Ann Kearns Walker, 65, of 447 Oakland Drive, died Saturday, Nov. 21, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday at First Presbyterian Church in Burlington, where she was a member, with Dr. Charles Williams officiating. Burial will be in Cross Roads Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County, a former schoolteacher and social worker for Alamance County and a homemaker and a member of the Women's Circle No. 7.

Surviving are husband, H. Cooper Walker of the home; daughter, Candace Cooper Walker Harrison of Greensboro and Leigh Ann Walker Mertens of Asheville; mother, Mae Caveness Kearns of Ramseur.

The family will be at Lowe Funeral Home in Burlington 6-8 p.m. Sunday and other times at the home.

Marvin V. Cooper

SOPHIA - Marvin VanBuren Cooper, 69, formerly of 6408 Flint Hill Road, Sophia, died Sunday, Nov. 22, 1998, at Westwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Cumby Funeral Home, Archdale, with the Rev. Jimmy Huneycutt officiating. Burial will be in Caraway Baptist Church Cemetery.

He was a native of Randolph County, a graduate of Trinity High School where he was on the 1947 State Championship Baseball team, coached the New Market baseball team in the Randolph County semi-pro league, was a U.S. Army veteran, retired from Myrtle Desk and was a Baptist.

Surviving are wife, Evelyn Craven Cooper of the home; daughters, Carla Cooper of High Point, Janet Henry of Yadkinville; one granddaughter.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-8:30 p.m. Monday.

Minnie T. Short

HIGH POINT - Minnie Inez Trogdon Short, 90, formerly of 408 Woodrow Ave., died Sunday, Nov. 22, 1998, at Vencor Hospital, Greensboro.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Sechrest Funeral Home, High Point, with the Rev. Wilbur Jarrett officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Memorial Park Cemetery.

She was a native of Asheboro, the widow of Henry Thomas Short, a graduate of the first High Point University class, had been employed as a buyer for Belk Department Stores and was a member of First Baptist Church and the Dorcas Bible Sunday School Class. She was a member of the Baptist Women's Mission Action Group #2, High Point Women's Club and the Out Our Way Garden Club.

Surviving are daughter, Louise Short of High Point; son, Carl M. Short of Rockwell; six grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-8 p.m. Monday.

Rhonda K. Chriscoe

ROBBINS - Rhonda Kay Chriscoe, 27, of 148 Morgan Road, died Saturday, Nov. 21, 1998, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Bright Light Baptist Church, with the Rev. Ralph Voncannon officiating. Burial will be in Pine Rest Cemetery.

She was a native of Montgomery County and was an employee of Cross Creek Sewing Plant.

Surviving are mother, Berta C. Gardner of Robbins; sisters, Lynn Gardner of Eagle Springs, Donna Gardner of Candor; brother, Richard Chriscoe of Eagle Springs.

The family will be at Kennedy Funeral Home, Robbins, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, other times at the home.

Peggy O. Smith
Peggy Oakes Smith, 66, of 837 Oakwood Acres Road, Asheboro, died Sunday, Nov. 22, 1998, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at East Side Baptist Church, where she was a member, with Dr. Roy Grigsby officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Memorial Park, Greensboro.

She was a native of Guilford County and co-owner of David Smith Electronics of Greensboro.

Surviving are husband, M. David Smith; sons, M. David Smith Jr. of Concord, Richard W. Smith of Asheboro; daughters, Rita C. Smith of Asheboro, Vonda S. Tucker of Indian Trail; sister, Jean Powell of Cleveland, Tenn.; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.

CANDOR - Lillie M. Lamonds Blake, 86, of Lot 6 Ball Park Road, died Monday, Nov. 23, 1998, at St. Joseph Health Center.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Biscoe Cemetery, with the Rev. Bobby Brock and the Rev. Fred Richardson officiating.

She was a native of Montgomery County and a homemaker.

Surviving are son, Elsie Blake of Asheboro; daughter, Corenea Hunsucker of Candor; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Phillips Funeral Home, Star, 6-8 p.m. Tuesday.

J. Ralph Chappell

CANDOR - J. Ralph Chappell, 92, of 3103 N.C. 731 East, died Monday, Nov. 23, 1998, at FirstHealth Montgomery Memorial Hospital, Troy.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Candor Town Cemetery, with the Rev. Mark Lykins officiating.

He was a native of Montgomery County, a member of Candor United Methodist Church and a retired peach grower, farmer and owner and operator of Ralph Chappell Grocery Store.

Surviving are daughter, Kathleen Elam of Candor; sisters, Blanche Russell of Troy, Rebecca Welborn of High Point; one grandchild; two great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Briggs-Candor Funeral Home, Candor, 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, other times at the home of Hoyle Mack Elam, N.C. 731 East, Candor.

She was a native of Davidson County, a homemaker and a member of Old Fashion Freewill Baptist Church.

She was a native of Randolph County, the widow of Fred Robbins, taught the Beginners Sunday School class at her church for over 50 years and worked in the Allen Jay School cafeteria.

Surviving are son, F. Eugene Robbins of Archdale; sisters, Virginia Weeks, Helen Lucas, Marcella Miller, all of Asheboro; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Cumby Mortuary, Archdale, 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday, other times at the home of the son, 2786 Kinley Trail, Archdale, N.C. 27263.

Surviving are husband, Richard Whitt of the home; son, Zachary Whitt of the home; daughter, Amelia Whitt of the home; parents, Danny and Lois Burris Morgan of Troy; sisters, Sherry Burris of Oakboro, Paula Shoemaker of Lake Tillery; grandmother, Opal Burris of Mt. Gilead.

Edith P. Broome
Edith Plyler Broome, 83, of 319 Nolen Ave., Asheboro, died Friday, Nov. 27, 1998, at Asheboro Health & Rehabilitation.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Oakhurst Baptist Church, where she was a member, with Dr. Richard Crider officiating. Burial will be 3:30 p.m. Monday at Lakeland Memorial Park, Monroe.

She was a native of Monroe and retired from Acme-McCrary.

Surviving are sisters, Jose Sonnett of Concord, Amy Moser of Lancaster, S.C.; one granddaughter.
