He was a native of Randolph County, a World War II U.S. Army veteran, the former pastor of Pentecostal Holiness Church and retired salesman with Charlotte Liberty Mutual Insurance Co.
Surviving are wife, Grace Burroughs Cranford; brother, Jim Cranford of Asheboro; sisters, Ollie Carter of High Point, Clady Pless of Canton.
