Raymond M. Moore

SNOW CAMP - Raymond M. Moore, 65, of 1355 Quakenbush Road, died Monday, Jan. 26, 1998, at UNC Hospitals, Chapel Hill.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Cane Creek Friends Meeting. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Alamance County, employed with Brookwood Farms, Siler City, was the owner/operator of F & M Small Engines, attended Cane Creek Friends Meeting and was retired from Snow Camp Fire Department.

Surviving are daughters, Ellen Ludington of Siler City, Annette Petty of Virginia Beach, Va., Susan Wills of Snow Camp; brothers, Harold Moore of Brown Summit, James Small of Bradenton, Fla.; three grandchildren.

The family will be at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, other times at the home of Doug and Susan Wills, 2464 Greensboro-Chapel Hill Road, Snow Camp.

BENNETT - Sue Gatlin Brady, 64, of 2480 Bennett-Siler City Road, died Monday, Jan. 26, 1998, at Chatham Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Pleasant Grove Christian Church, with the Rev. Kenneth Huggins and the Rev. Hayes Ritter officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County, a homemaker and a member of Antioch Christian Church.

Surviving are husband, James Lynden Brady of the home; son, Melvin Brady of Bear Creek; daughters, Janette Farrington of Lusby, Md., Sylvia Ford of Kernersville, Pamella Salisbury of Cameron, Karen Garner of Robbins; sisters, Ruby Kiser, Bessie Deaton, both of Seagrove; brothers, Recil Gatlin of Asheboro, Cecil Gatlin of Seagrove, David Gatlin of Tacoma, Wash.; 10 grandchildren.

The family will be at Joyce-Brady Funeral Home, Bennett, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday.

ROBBINS - Ernest Theodore Dennis, 94, formerly of Robbins, died Sunday, Jan. 25, 1998, at Pinehurst Nursing Center.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Elise Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Jerry Vuncannon officiating. Burial will be in Pine Rest Cemetery.

He was a native of Montgomery County, the widower of Carrie Moxley Dennis and a retired hardware salesman.

Surviving are stepdaughter, Ima M. McAuley of Greer, S.C.; two stepgranddaughters; two stepgreat-grandchildren.

Phyllis A. Couch

SURFSIDE BEACH, S.C. - Phyllis Ann Couch, 54, of South Bay Lakes, died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 1998, at her home.

A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church of Myrtle Beach.

She was a native of Yolyn, W. Va.

Surviving are husband, Byron Ned Couch; father, Harlan Ashley of Asheboro; son, Keith E. Couch of Summerville; daughter, Pamela A. Myers of Surfside Beach; brothers, Dale Ashley of Seattle, Wash., William Ashley of Seagrove; sisters, Mary B. Nelson, Reta M. Stanaway, both of Newport News, Va., Brenda Kay Ocheltree of Asheboro, Lynn Schneider of Greensboro; one grandson.

Carl C. Stout Jr.
Carl Clarence Stout Jr., 84, of 1622 Fairway Road, Asheboro, died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 1998, at his home.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Michael Jordan officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

A native of Star, he was employed as a knitter with Bossong Hosiery for 10 years and in 1943, he established Stout's Fish & Poultry Market with his wife. In 1958, he became a field representative with Woodmen of the World Life Insurance Society and played a large part in the growth and success of WOW Camp 921, which now serves boys and girls from western North Carolina. He served the camp as secretary for 29 years and a field representative for 19 years. In 1986, the Asheboro Lodge was renamed the Carl C. Stout Lodge in his honor.

Surviving are wife, Annie Raines Stout; son, James Harvey Stout of Imperial Beach, Calif.; daughter, Ella Raines Stout Pozell of Washington, D.C.; brothers, Cecil Stout of Fairfax, Va., Neil Stout, Hal Stout, both of Wilmington, George Stout of El Paso, Texas; sisters, Kathleen S. Tucker of Grifton, Martha S. Alexander of Hopewell, Va., Ruth S. Burgess of Asheboro; one grandson.

The family will be at the funeral home 6-9 p.m. Friday.

Grady T. Lane, 66, of 815 Brewer St., Asheboro, died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 1998, at his home.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Friday at Wesley Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Anthony Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Mount Calvery Cemetery.

He was a native of Randolph County, a U.S. Army veteran and a retired employee of Dixie Furniture.

Surviving are wife, Emily Lane of Asheboro; daughter, Cynthia Lane Carter of the home; sons, Greg Lane of East Spencer, Chris Baldwin of New Jersey; sister, Wilma Steele of Jackson Springs; brothers, Walter Lane Jr. of Carrboro, Johnny Lane of Durham, Thomas Lane, Walt Lane, both of Jackson Springs; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

Sarah M. Hatfield

RAMSEUR - Sarah Martinez Hatfield, 74, of 1102 Stout Acres Road, died Friday, Jan. 16, 1998, at her home.

A graveside service was held Thursday, Jan. 22, at Saint Mary's Cemetery in Gilroy, Calif.

She was a native of Harshal, Ariz., and a homemaker.

Surviving are son, Wayne Hatfield of Loomis, Calif.; mother, Ann Sawlyer of Fort Lupton, Colo.; daughters, Shirley Lester of Ramseur, Melinda Gonzalez of Citrus Heights, Calif.; brother, Bobby Logan of Los Gatos, Calif.; sister, Ruth Logan of Fort Lupton, Colo.; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, was in charge of the arrangements.

Dudley A. Hancock

BISCOE - Dudley Albert Hancock, 79, of 2361 N.C. 24/27, died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 1998, at FirstHealth Montgomery Memorial Hospital, Troy.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Biscoe Cemetery, with the Rev. Larry Beaver and the Rev. Mike Holyfield officiating.

He was a native of Montgomery County, a member of Biscoe Christian Church and was retired from Springs Mills Inc.

Surviving are wife, Mary Harris Hancock of the home; sons, Harvey Hancock of the home, Jerry Hancock of Pinehurst, Johnny Hancock of Star; daughters, Mary Holbrook of Houston, Texas, Brenda Crump of Biscoe; brothers, Paul Hancock, James Hancock, both of Troy, Elsie Hancock of Candor; sisters, Eula Parker, Odell Cranford, both of Biscoe, Fannie Blackman of Mt. Pleasant; seven grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh-Troy Funeral Home, Troy, 6-8 p.m. Thursday.

MT. GILEAD - James Norman Dunn, 97, formerly of Mt. Gilead, died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 1998, at Richmond Memorial Hospital, Rockingham.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Hamer Creek Baptist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Dan W. Abernathy officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Montgomery County and a retired saw mill worker.

The family will be at McKeithan Funeral Home, Mt. Gilead, 7-9 p.m. Friday.

Evander C. Wright Sr.

SILER CITY - Evander C. Wright Sr., 75, of 1408 Smith Hudson Road, died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 1998, at Chatham Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Rocky River Baptist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Greg Burris officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Chatham County, a retired painter, former deacon and member of Friendship Sunday School class at his church and had been a Silk Hope Scoutmaster for 16 years.

Surviving are wife, Mary Joyce Fuquay Wright; daughter, Joe Ann W. Willoughby of Siler City; sons, John David Wright, Dickie Wright, both of Siler City, Glenn Wright of Liberty.

The family will be at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City, 7-9 p.m. Thursday.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Loves Creek Baptist Church, where she was a member. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Chatham County, the widow of Slocum Robert Fox and a homemaker.

Surviving are daughters, Alluwee Fox Stephens of Graham, Patricia Fox Richardson of Orlando, Fla.; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

He was a native of Randolph County, a World War II U.S. Army veteran, retired from Oliver Rubber and was a deacon at his church.

Hammer, John Edward Hammer, both of Asheboro; daughter, Betty Sue Hammer Byrd of Asheboro; brother, Diffie Hammer of Asheboro; sister, Iola Moffitt of Seagrove; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home, Gretna, Va., with the Rev. Clyde Crowder and the Rev. Stephen Byrd officiating. Burial will be in Gretna Burial Park.

She was a native of Pittsylvania County, the widow of Floyd F. Akers, a homemaker and a member of the Church of God of Prophecy, Brookneal.

Surviving are sons, James Owen Akers of Seagrove, Delano "D.B." Akers of Nathalie, Va., Leroy B. Akers of Asheboro, Paul F. Akers of Clayton; daughters, Fleecy A. Barrett of Franklinville, Nellie Marie Akers of Asheboro, Rebecca Fancher of Franklinville, Barbara Jean Duty of Gastonia; half brothers, Luther King, Raymond King, Dan King; half sisters, Viola Roberts, Josephine Shanault, Fannie Newcomb, Miranda Dunn; 52 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-8:30 p.m. Saturday, other times at the home, Waiman Apartments, 333 Freedom Drive, Asheboro.

A memorial service will be 5 p.m. Saturday at Our Lady of the Americas Catholic Church, Biscoe, with Father Mark Lawlor officiating. Burial will be private.

He was a native of Pinehurst.

Surviving in addition to the parents are brothers, Miguel Alfaro, Joel Alfaro, both of Candor; sisters, Maria Alfaro, Yolando Alfaro, Elizabeth Alfaro, all of Candor.
