Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Acorn Ridge Baptist Church, with Dr. John Williamson and the Rev. Robert Bundy officiating. Burial will be in Pine Rest cemetery.
He was a native of Poyen, Ark., a World War II U.S. Army veteran, a member of Poyen Missionary Baptist Church, a retired employee of Piedmont Airlines after 27 years and a member of I.A.M. Local 2444.
Surviving are wife, Ruth Hunsucker Finley; son, Floyd Lewis Finley Jr. of Berkley, Calif.; stepdaughter, Jean S. Huff of Mooresville; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

CARTHAGE - James Evert Ross, 82, of Rossborn Lane, died Wednesday, Jan. 6, 1999, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Victory Community Baptist Church, with the Rev. Max Gilmore and the Rev. D.C. Sullivan officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Baptist Church cemetery.
He was a native of Surry County, the widower of Mary Collins Ross, a retired farmer and a mobile home park owner.
Surviving are daughters, Marjorie Barber of Carthage, Joyce Tubbs of Glenwood, N.J., Dorothy Gillis of Roxboro; sons, Jimmie Ross, Josel Ross, Jerry Ross, all of Carthage, Jesse Ross of Aberdeen; sisters, Hattie Mae Maness, Bertha Teague, both of Robbins; brother, Simon Ross of Robbins; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren.

Mary Adelaid Brower York, 84, of Asheboro, died Wednesday, Jan. 6, 1999, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, Greensboro.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Ed Houck officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.
She was a native of Randolph County, the widow of Hilary York and a member of Balfour Baptist Church.

He was a native of Bangkok, Thailand, employed at Pinewood Country Club, and a Thai Air Force veteran of World War II.

He was a native of Randolph County, a retired Master Patrol Officer after 26 years in law enforcement in Siler City, Sanford and Southern Pines, an Air Force veteran of Vietnam, a recipient of the Purple Heart, a member of the N.C. Law Enforcement Association, N.C. Retired Peace Officer's Association, VFW Post 615 and the American Legion and organizer and scoutmaster of Cub Scout Troop 814.
Surviving are wife, Peggy Brooks Branson; son, Jonathan D. Branson of the home; daughter, Crystal B. VanHorn of Ramseur; sisters, Linda Kay Vermette of Bear Creek and Phyllis Branson Wilkerson and Janice Branson Kennedy, both of Asheboro.

He was a native of Guilford County, an Army veteran, a member of the New Birth Church of the Living God where he served as elder, deacon and trustee, an employee of Mechanical Specialty Co. in Greensboro for 25 years and a truck driver for Old Dominion Freight Lines.

He was a native of Roanoke, Va., a minister for 61 years with Wesleyan and Friends churches and the pastor of Bethel Friends on two occasions for a total of 12 years, until his retirement.
Surviving are wife, Reva A. Smallwood; sons, David Smallwood of Greensboro, Steven Smallwood of Asheboro; daughter, Judith S. Johnson of Greensboro; sister, Edna Laffoon of Roanoke, Va.; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

She was a native of Montgomery County, the widow of Dr. Charles W. Bruton Sr., with whom she worked in his practice as an office manager, and a member of First Bank of Troy Office Advisory Board. She was on the first school committee of West Montgomery High School, a member of the Child Study Club and had served as the Democratic Montgomery County co-chairperson of the governor's race for Robert Jordan, Terry Sanford and James B. Hunt and the congressional campaign of Bill Hefner.
Surviving are sons, Dr. Charles W. Bruton Jr. of Oak Ridge, Tenn., Rev. Eugene Thomas Bruton of Smithfield; daughter, Ruth "Ruthie" B. Morris of Troy; brother, E.H. Wood Jr. of Troy; sisters, Ila W. Reynolds, Alleen W. Blackwell, both of Troy, Frances H. Williams of North Wilkesboro; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild.
