He was a native of Randolph County, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and retired from the furniture industry.

Calvin C. Hill, 55, of 1435 Old Cox Road, Asheboro, died Wednesday, Feb. 3, 1999, at his home.

He was a native of Randolph County, employed with Goodyear, a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War and a member of the American Legion and VFW.

She was a native of Stokes County, the widow of E. Brady Matthews, a charter member of Russell's Grove Baptist Church and retired from B.B. Walker Co.

RAMSEUR - William Edward "Bill" Pate, 73, of 309 Elam Ave., died Thursday, Feb. 4, 1999, at his home.

He was a native of Cumberland County, owner of Ramseur Building Supply, on the Ramseur Town Board for 24 years and a fireman for 21 years. He was a retired member of the First Citizens Bank advisory board, a deacon at his church and a former member of the Ramseur Lions Club.
Surviving are wife, Velma Cox Pate; sons, Eddie Pate, Ken Pate, both of Ramseur; daughter, Brenda Flowers of Ramseur; brother, Bruce Pate of Fayetteville; sister, Pearl T. Pait of Saint Pauls; four grandchildren.

He was a native of Randolph County, a World War II U.S. Army veteran, a member of Archdale United Methodist Church and the Adult Bible class and was retired from J.R. Graham Construction Company as a master carpenter.

She was a native of Guilford County, retired Postmistress with the U.S. Post Office in Denton, a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and a member of the Women's Missionary Union, and a Girls' Auxiliary leader at her church. She was the widow of Dudley Doyle and William H. Snyder.
Surviving are a stepson, Monroe Snyder of Denton; a brother, John Coltrane of Greensboro; sisters Louise Forman of Shreveport, La., and Mae Coble of Lexington; seven step grandchildren, 10 step great-grandchildren, and two step great-great-grandchildren.
