Helen Edwards Tunstall, 90; service to be Thursday
Helen Edwards Tunstall, 90, of New Bern, died Monday at home.
She was the mother of Thomas Tunstall of Atlantic Beach.
Her funeral will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at First Pentecostal Holiness Church, New Bern, with the Rev. Blanche Pollard and the Rev. Phillip Lewis officiating.
A native of the Edward Community in Beaufort County, Mrs. Tunstall lived in New Bern for 18 years.
She is survived by two daughters, Margaret Howerin and Reba Canady and husband, Johnny, all of New Bern; a sister, Edith Elks of Grimesland; 12 grandchildren, Teresa Dawson and Debbie Cowan, both of New Bern, Melanie Canady of Emerald Isle, Bobby Canady of Aviano, Italy, Joey Tunstall of Newport, Tommy Tunstall of Edward, Diane Whalen of Fayetteville, Vicki Howell and Kim Tunstall, both of Nashville, Tenn., Mike Tunstall of Versailles, Ky., Toni Ryes of Las Vegas, Nev., and Lisa Bentley of Conover; seven great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Bryan Tunstall; and three sons, Bobby, William and Joseph Tunstall.
The family will receive friends for an hour prior to the service at the church.

Jack Arthur Stuart, 62; service was Tuesday
Jack Arthur Stuart, 62, of Atlantic Beach and Greensboro, died Friday at the University of Alabama Hospital, Birmingham, while awaiting a heart transplant.
A memorial service was held Tuesday at Christ United Methodist Church, Greensboro, followed by a private burial.
Mr. Stuart was born in Gastonia, to Mary Kate and the late Arthur Puett Stuart.
He graduated from Western Carolina University and joined Burlington Industries in 1962, holding a variety of managerial positions through 1988.
He helped found Galey and Lord Inc., retiring as vice president in 1995.
Mr. Stuart was a member of Christ United Methodist Church and the Thomas M. Holt Masonic Lodge 492, Graham.
He is survived by his wife, Judy Bisanar Stuart; two sons, Jeffrey Scott Stuart and wife, Julie, of Wilmington and Gregory Forrest Stuart of Raleigh; his mother, Mary Kate Stuart of Gastonia; a brother, Robert K. Stuart of Gastonia; and his beloved cocker spaniel, Buffy.

Ruth Parker Barnes, 78; service was Tuesday
Ruth Parker Barnes, 78, of Morehead City, died Sunday at home.
A graveside service was held Tuesday at Gethsemane Memorial Park with Tommy Dyson officiating.
Mrs. Barnes was a member of Grace Baptist Church, where she was the church secretary.
She is survived by a daughter, Pat Williams of Wildwood; a son, Mike Barnes of Fountain; two sisters, Laurene Dyson of Southern Pines, and Clara Goss of Raleigh; a brother, Henry Parker of Albuquerque, N.M.; and four grandchildren.

Theodore Roosevelt Fortney, Jr., 67, of Newport, died Sunday at home.
His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Munden Funeral Home Chapel.
Burial will follow in Gethsemane Memorial Park.
Mr. Fortney is survived by four daughters, Dorothea M. Fortney and Doris J. Rogers, both of Newport, and Diana Lee P. Black and Sharon Cikanovich, both of Pennsylvania; a son, Theodore Roosevelt Fortney, III of Pennsylvania; a sister, Blanche Van Fossen of Tennessee; three brothers, George Fortney and William Fortney, both of Pennsylvania, and Thomas Fortney of California; and several grandchildren.

Harold I. Holbrook, 88; service was Tuesday
Harold I. Holbrook, 88, of Beaufort, died Saturday.
His funeral was Tuesday at Munden Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jack Lee officiating.
Burial was in Gethsemane Memorial Park.
Mr. Holbrook served in the U.S. Army Air Force with the 107th Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron, earning six Bronze Stars.
He was a member of First Baptist Church, Beaufort, Franklin Masonic Lodge 109 and the New Bern Scottish Rite.
He is survived by a daughter, Jane H. Mace of Beaufort; a sister, Janet Rothrock of Columbus, Ohio; two granddaughters, Kelly M. Mace and Lauren D. Mace, both of Beaufort; and a grandson, Bryan G. Mace of Beaufort.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. at Munden Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. of Morehead City.

Olivia Carter Culley, 78, of Havelock, died Saturday at Britthaven of Newport.
Her funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Hyman Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church with the Rev. Bobby Simmons officiating.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Culley served on the usher board at Hyman Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church.
She was a retired seamstress for J.A. Caplon and Sons Manufacturing Co. of New York.
She is survived by her husband, Albert Lee Culley; a son, Joseph B. Culley of Norfolk, Va.; four sisters, Sudie Godette of Portsmouth, Va., Rosa Brown and Bessie Teel, both of Havelock and Nannie Moore of Goldsboro; three brothers, Watson Carter and William H. Carter, both of Havelock, and Purvis Carter of Beaufort; and three grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the home.
The viewing will be held from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at Oscar's Mortuary Inc. of New Bern.

Mary Elva Salter, 89, of Sea Level, died Tuesday at Taylor Extended Care Facility.
Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, at Sea Level United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Robert Carpenter officiating.
Burial will follow in Styron Creek Cemetery.
Mrs. Salter is survived by a sister, Delphia Tosto of Sea Level; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Georgia Taylor and Gaynelle Nelson; and three brothers, Harvey Salter, John Salter and Adrian Salter.

Mildred Casto Mullins, 83; service to be held later
Mildred Casto Mullins, 83, of Morehead City, died Monday at her home.
Her funeral will be held at a later date.
Mrs. Mullins was a lifelong member of the Eastern Stars, a member of the West Virginia Nurses Association, Dunbar Baptist Church in West Virginia, and First Baptist Church in Morehead City. She participated in a variety of activities at the Leon Mann, Jr. Enrichment Center, Morehead City.
She is survived by a daughter, Sandra Mullins Gerende of Morehead City; a sister, Melba McClure of Dunbar, W.Va.; four grandchildren, Chris Gerende, Cheryl Davis, Blain Mullins and Liz Palmer; and five great-grandchildren, Kristine, Amanda, Delain, Holden and Landon.

Master Sgt. Marion Vann, Jr.; private service to be later
Retired Master Sgt. Marion Gray Vann, Jr., 67, of Morehead City, died Thursday.
A private service will be held at a later date.
Master Sgt. Vann served 26 years in the U.S. Air Force and was retired from the civil service at Pope Air Force Base.
He is survived by two sons, David Gray Vann of Fort Fisher, and Steve Randall Vann of Goldsboro; and two grandchildren, Sunnie Vann and Saylor Vann, both of Fort Fisher.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Annie Jessup Vann and Marion Gray Vann, both of Fayetteville.
