Elliot Monroe, Morehead City; funeral scheduled Monday
Elliot G. Monroe, 65, a beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather and great-grandfather, died Friday at Carteret General Hospital in Morehead City.
He was a member of First Baptist Church in Morehead City, was retired from the U.S. Air Force after 20 years of service and was the former manager of Gethsemane Memorial Park and Carteret Memorial Gardens.
His funeral will be Monday at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Morehead City, with the Rev. Tom Lamkin officiating.
Burial will follow at Gethsemane Memorial Park.
Mr. Monroe is survived by his wife, Judy Monroe of Morehead City, and their children: Vicky Salter and husband Rocky, Barbara Bartlow and husband Tim, John Trent and wife Angela, Michelle Jackson and husband Al; by his brother, Elliot Hawthorne, Jr. and wife Linda.
Also surviving are eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Sunday at Munden Funeral Home and Crematory in Morehead City.

Dorothy C. Cameron, 77; funeral set for today
Dorothy C. Cameron, 77, of Emerald Isle, died Thursday evening at Carteret General Hospital in Morehead City.
Mrs. Cameron was formerly of Durham, and was the daughter of the late James Hugh and Allie Mae Wilkins Clark.
She retired from Liggett-Myers Tobacco Co.
Mrs. Cameron is survived by her husband, Kenneth Cameron; a son, Ken "Gene" Cameron and wife Gwynne of Emerald Isle; two sisters, Mabel Baker and Blanche High, both of Durham; a brother, James Harold Clark of Newland; three grandsons, Brian Cameron and wife Katie of Durham, Kevin Cameron of Silver Springs, Md., and Jeremy Wright and wife Rachael of Jacksonville, Fla.; and two great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Cameron's funeral service will be today at 2 p.m. at Clements Funeral Home in Durham, with the Rev. Ron Snider officiating.
Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
Arrangements are by Clements Funeral Home of Durham.

William M. Brown, 78; funeral will be Monday
William M. Brown, 78, of Beaufort, died Thursday at Century Care of the Crystal Coast.
Mr. Brown was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Navy. He was raised in New Bern.
A graveside service with military honors will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Edgecombe Memorial Park, Tarboro, with the Rev. Ed Conner of Cobb Memorial Presbyterian Church officiating.
Mr. Brown is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Brown of Alameda, Calif.; a son, Hunter C. Brown of Emerald Isle; a daughter, Laura D. Brown of Winterville; two brothers, Graham Brown of Bridgeton, and Donald Brown of Franklin, Va.; a sister, Claudia Roach of Melbourne, Fla.; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Dale Creech Brown, and a son, William M. Brown, III.

Richard Ivor Forrest; funeral was Saturday
Richard Ivor Forrest, 82, of Emerald Isle, died Thursday at his residence.
A memorial service was held Saturday at 4 p.m. at Jones Funeral Home Chapel in Swansboro, with the Rev. Robert Otman officiating.
Mr. Forrest served in the U.S. Army, was a charter member of the Experimental Aircraft Association and loved sailing and building wooden boats.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia Forrest, of the home; a son, Steven Forrest of Chapel Hill; a daughter, Jan Ward of Norway, Maine; a brother; and two grandchildren.

Carolyn White Twigg, 57; service planned for tonight
Carolyn White Twigg, 57, of Cape Carteret, died Tuesday at home.
Her funeral will be at 6:30 tonight at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service Chapel, Knightdale.
Mrs. Twigg was born Oct. 3, 1944, in Newport News, Va., to the late Lonnie Gilbert White and the late Nell Williamson White. She owned and operated Perfect Touch Hairstyling of Raleigh before she retired. She moved to Cape Carteret, where she worked with her son.
She is survived by her husband, Richard Edward Twigg; two sons, Richard Edward "Ricky" Twigg, Jr. of Raleigh and Troy Gilbert Twigg of Emerald Isle; a sister, Gaylene W. Goodwin of Apex; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service of Knightdale.

Earnestine Mattocks White, 62; service will be Saturday
Earnestine Mattocks White, 62, of Pollocksville, died Monday at Craven Regional Medical Center, New Bern.
Her funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Free Will Chapel Free Will Baptist Church with the Rev. George Joyner officiating. Burial will be in Haiti Cemetery, Trenton.
Mrs. White was a member of Free Will Chapel Free Will Baptist Church and sang in the choir at St. Stephens A.M.E. Zion Church, Maysville. She was a missionary who ministered to the sick and shut-ins.
She is survived by her husband, Jack Thomas White of the home; five daughters, Cynthia D. Young of Seoul, South Korea, Felicia "Tru" James of Pollocksville, Shirley Smith of Newport, Cleo Glathe of Jacksonville, and Vandella Bradley of Raleigh; a son, Jack Thomas White, Jr. of Maysville; 10 sisters, Ida Mae Mattocks, Estella Chapman and Lillie B. Smith, all of Maysville, Nettie Wilson of New York, Irene Stanton, Katie M. Baker, Jennifer Garmon and Carolyn Brookshire, all of Jacksonville, Clara B. Kornegay of Virginia Beach, Va., and Vivian Allen of Killeen, Texas; three brothers, Rudolph W. Mattocks, Jr. and Lynton Mattocks, both of Maysville, and Calvin E. Mattocks of Wilmington; 20 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
The viewing will be from noon to 7 p.m. today at Rivers-Morgan Funeral Home of New Bern, and for one hour prior to the service at the church.

Elmer 'Pete' Peterson, 80; graveside service Monday
Elmer "Pete" Peterson, 80, of New Bern, died Friday at his home.
A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Monday at Gethsemane Memorial Gardens, Highway 24 west of Morehead City, with the Rev. Henry Swanzey officiating.
A native of North Chicago, Ill., he retired from the U.S. Marine Corps and was a member of the U.S. Golf Association, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Fleet Reserve and Cherry Point Masonic Lodge No. 688.
He was a Shriner.
He was an avid golfer and will be missed by many friends.
He is survived by his wife, Rose Peterson, of New Bern; a daughter, Barbara Peterson of Lake Forest, Ill.; two brothers, Howard Peterson and his wife, Shirley, of Gurnee, Ill., and Henry Peterson and his wife, Sandy, of Stafford, Va.; a sister-in-law, Rose Mary Peterson of Libertyville, Ill.; and a grandson, Daniel Peterson of Lake Forest, Ill.
His son, Jeffrey Peterson, and his brothers, Paul and Leonard Peterson, preceded him in death.

Joe Allen Denton, 70; funeral 2 p.m. Monday
Gunnery Sgt. Joe Allen Denton, U.S. Marine Corps Retired, 70, of Maysville, died Thursday, May 23, at Pitt Memorial Hospital in Greenville.
He was the father of Donna Denton Heisman of Morehead City and Dranda Denton Creech of Swansboro.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Jones Funeral Home, Swansboro Chapel, with the Rev. Ralph Elder officiating.
Burial, with military honors, will follow at Seaside Memorial Park.
He is also survived by his wife, Sybil Ann Fuller Denton, of the home; two sons, Joe Denton and Jeff Denton, both of Wilmington; another daughter, Dianne Denton Olds of Jacksonville; two brothers, Odell Denton and David Best, both of Chickamauga, Ga.; one sister, Claudette Morgan of Chickamauga, Ga.; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends this evening from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Jones Funeral Home, Swansboro.
