Catherine W. Fitzwater
Catherine Louise Wilson Fitzwater, 57, of Gastonia, died Nov. 27 [2000] at her residence, following a period of declining health.
Mrs. Fitzwater was preceded in death by a daughter, Lisa Jane Clemons; and two sons, Denver Allen Clemons and Scott Allen Wilson.
Survivors include daughters Rose Jenkins, Lily Watkins, and Gladys Clemons, all of Hickory, and Beverly Clemons of Hildebran; sons Tommy and Carl Clemons of Clover, S.C., Robert Clemons of Bessemer City, N.C., Keith Grubb of Hickory, and James and Dale Clemons of Gastonia; and sisters Gladys Gillenwater of Peytona, W.Va., and Doris Klinefilter of Oak Hill, W.Va.
Minister Ruby Bridges conducted services at the Catawba Funeral Home Chapel, and burial followed in Catawba Memorial Park.
Walter E. Fox
Walter Eugene Fox, 58, of 31st Street NW in Hickory, died Nov. 21 [2000] in Catawba County.
Mr. Fox was employed by Hickory Chair as a sander.
He was a Vietnam veteran of the U.S. Army and the U.S. Navy.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Day Fox; daughter Angela Turner of Hudson; sons Chris “Todd” Fox of Hudson, Chad Fox of Rome, Ga., and Brandon Eugene Fox of Conover; sisters Shirley Forte and Linda Fox-Watson, both of Lenoir; and a brother, James Henry Fox of Hudson.
Services were conducted at the Catawba Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Robbie Carver, and burial followed in Catawba Memorial Park.
Joseph J. Harvey
Joseph Jerome Harvey, 38, of St. Paul’s Church Road in Newton, died Nov. 25 [2000] at a Hickory hospital.
He was president of Southern Glove, Inc., in Conover.
Mr. Harvey is survived by his wife, Kimberley Belcher Harvey; sons Arthur Julian, James Killian and John Carter Harvey, all of the home; parents William John Harvey, Jr. and Janice Killian Harvey of Durham; brother William John Harvey, III of Charlotte; sister Virginia Scoville of Morrisville, N.Y.; and maternal grandmother Florence Killian Little of Newton.
A memorial service was held at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Hickory, with Father Robert Roncase officiating.

Roger V. Houston
Roger Vance Houston, 79, of Springs Road in Conover, died Nov. 25 [2000] at a Hickory hospital.
He was born in Catawba County to the late Tommy E. and Claudia Winebarger Houston.
Mr. Houston was a lifelong member of St. Peters Lutheran Church and was the retired owner of Houston Mill & Hardware in Conover. He was a WWII veteran of the U.S. Army and was an avid fisherman on Ocracoke Island, N.C.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Helen Deal Houston.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Hester Houston; sons Buddy and Phil Houston of Conover; daughters Dixie Ingram and Sherry Kenworthy of Hickory, and Jill Gunter of Bear Creek, N.C.; brother Kenneth Houston of Hickory; sister Sadie Eckard of Conover; and five grandchildren.
The Revs. Paul D. Birner and Paul D. Sundbom conducted services at St. Peters Lutheran Church, and burial was in the church cemetery.

Rebecca B. Huffman
Rebecca June Butler Huffman, 73, of 19th Street SW in Hickory, died Nov. 24 [2000] at a Hickory hospital.
Mrs. Huffman was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and was retired from the textile industry.
She is survived by her husband, Guy L. Huffman; son Larry Dean Huffman of Hickory; daughter Kathy Isenhour of Hickory; brother Bobby Butler of Drexel, N.C.; and four grandchildren.
The Revs. Bert Dixon and Bill Marr conducted services at Calvary Baptist Church, and burial followed in Oakwood Cemetery.

Doris H. Jarrett
Doris Hewitt Jarrett, 69, of North Davis Avenue in Newton, died Nov. 22 [2000] at a Hickory hospital.
She was born in Catawba County to the late Grover Cleveland and Annie Reap Hewitt.
Mrs. Jarrett was a retired textile employee and was a member of Pentecostal Church of the Living God.
Survivors include a son, Stanley S. Jarrett of Newton; brothers Jack L. Hewitt of Reidville, N.C., and Kenneth R. Hewitt of Newton; sisters Nancy H. Rutland of Newport News, Va., and Katheline H. Parkhurst of Catawba; half-brother Willie L. Allen of Lincolnton; and one granddaughter.

Alta (Jane) W. Johnson
Alta Jane Wilson Johnson, 55, of 15th Street SW in Hickory, died Nov. 23 [2000] at her residence, following a brief illness.
She was born in Catawba County to Bill Wilson of Alexandria, La., and Mary Louise Huffman of Hickory.
Mrs. Johnson was a member of West Hickory Baptist Church.
She and her husband, Kenneth (Ken) Blair Johnson, were owners/operators of Ken & Jane Wallcovering.
Mrs. Johnson was also co-owner of Ice Castle Skating Rink in Newton, and founding president of the Catawba Valley Figure Skating Club.
She served as a volunteer for the Red Cross at Frye Regional Medical Center, and was a former quality control inspector for J.P. Stevens Co.
In addition to her husband and parents, survivors include sons Clegg Anderson and Jonathan Gray Johnson, both of Newton; brother Milo Wilson of Alexandria, La.; and one grandson.
The Rev. Michael Staton conducted services at West Hickory Baptist Church.

William H. Kincaid
William Howard Kincaid, 59, of Hickory, died Nov. 25 [2000] at a Hickory hospital.
Mr. Kincaid was a property manager with CPM designation for 30 years, and was employed as manager of Mulberry Medical Park in Lenoir, for The Cogdell Group, Inc.
He is remembered for his faithful service and volunteer work as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses for nearly 20 years.
He is survived by his wife, Judith Johnson Kincaid; sons Michael Aubrey and Spencer Mark Kincaid of Frederick, MD, and Timothy William Kincaid of San Diego, CA; daughter Kathy Deniese Farris of Raleigh; and mother Mildred Flack Kincaid of Morganton.

Hester A. Kiziah
Hester Ada Kiziah, 78, of Kiziah Lane in Hickory, died Nov. 23 [2000] at a Hickory hospital, following a period of declining health.
Mrs. Kiziah was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church and was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Boyd Eugene Kiziah.
Survivors include sons Boyd W. and David L. Kiziah, both of Bethlehem; sisters Faye Myers and Ruth Teague, both of Granite Falls, and Ruby Jewel of Vale; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services were conducted at Bethlehem Baptist Church by the Revs. Jeff Bowden and Oliver C. Price, and burial followed in the church cemetery.
