KATHERINE R. WILKERSON
MORGANTON - Katherine Lucille Rutherford Wilkerson, 72, of Nebo, died July 17, 2000, at McDowell Hospital in Marion.
Born July 27, 1927, in Burke County, she was a daughter of the late Benjamin and Ivory Hemphill Rutherford.
A member of Corpening Chapel A.M.E. Church, she was a Communion Stewardess and member of the Senior Choir.
She retired as a dry cleaner from Ideal Cleaners after five years service.
She was preceded in death by a son, Joseph Wilkerson, Jr.; two brothers, William “Bill” Rutherford and Verdell Rutherford; five sisters, Mary Rutherford, Josephine Rutherford, Ruby Nell Rutherford, Nora Scott and Pauline Peterson; and a great-grandson, Jarrain Tate.
Survivors include her husband, Joseph Wilkerson, Sr.; a son and daughter-in-law, Earl “Bubba” and Sherry Wilkerson of Nebo; a daughter, Mary Rutherford of the home; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Paul Rutherford of Nebo, Kenneth and Lois Rutherford of Morganton and Ben L. and Azalee Rutherford of Lenoir; a sister, Lula Mae Wilkerson of Nebo; a daughter-in-law, Gloria Wilkerson of Nebo; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a number of nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives and friends.
The funeral will be conducted by the Revs. Shirley DeCoster, Faye Reese and Tommy Carpenter at 2 p.m. Friday at her church.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will be at the church from 1:30 to 1:55 p.m. Friday.

SANDRA K. JUSTICE
CHARLOTTE - Sandra Kay Justice, 25, of Newton, died July 12, 2000.
Born in Cleveland, Ohio, she was a daughter of Betty Sloan of Newton.
A graduate of Iaeger High School in Iaegar, W.Va., she was a secretary with Century Contracting Inc.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Roger Hurley and Scott Hurley; a sister, Andrea Bailey; and a grandmother, Maxine Justice.
Survivors, in addition to her mother, include two brothers, Richard Justice of Stanley and Randall Justice of Panther, W.Va.; a sister, Toni Wilson of Newton; a grandfather, Ted Justice of Panther, W.Va.; and a number of uncles, aunts, cousins and nieces.
A memorial service will be conducted by the Rev. Ron Helms at 7 p.m. tonight at Hankins and Whittington Funeral Service.
The family will remain at the funeral home after the service.
ROY LIPPARD
Roy “Jim” Lippard, 65, of Miller Mill Road, died July 18, 2000, at Frye Regional Medical Center.
Born July 17, 1935, in Burke County, he was a son of the late James Eckard and Cordie Smith Lippard.
He retired as a fixer from Valley Tech.
Survivors include a son, Allen Lippard of Hickory; three daughters, Gail Smith and Sandra Huffman of Hickory, and Robin Lippard of Morganton; a brother, Samuel Boe Lippard of Hudson; a sister, Pauline Lippard Cole of Hildebran; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a number of nephews and nieces.
A memorial service will be conducted by the Rev. Scott Owens at 11 a.m. Friday at Burke Chapel United Methodist Church.
The family will be at Hickory Funeral Home from 7 to 8:30 tonight.
CHARLES W. HARRIS
MOCKSVILLE - Charles William Harris, 45, of Claremont, died July 14, 2000, at Catawba Valley Hospice after a period of declining health.
Survivors include his wife, Rosa Mae Harris; two sons, Cecil Harris and Anthony Harris of Catawba County; a daughter, Cindy H. Coulter of Newton; a brother, Raymond Harris of Hickory; five sisters, Jessie Austin of Baltimore, Md., Adelle Bennett of South Carolina, Irene Stewart and Ernestine Miller of Raleigh, and Willie Ann Rinehardt of Catawba County; and two grandchildren.

DOROTHY T. BARKER
Dorothy Templeton Barker, 86, of Seventh Street, NW, died July 19, 2000, at Catawba Memorial Hospital.
Born June 19, 1914, in Lynchburg, Va., she was a daughter of the late Eugene B. and Rena Templeton.
A member of First United Methodist Church, she was a bookkeeper and secretary for Cannon Aviation.
Survivors include her husband, James C. Barker; two sons, Jimmy Barker of Massachusetts, and Bill Barker of Clemmons; two daughters, Barbara Faulkner of Apex, and Kathy Gray of Carey; a brother, Albert Templeton of Hickory; a sister, Lucille Bernard of Morganton; and eight grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted by the Rev. Paul Starnes at 2 p.m. Friday at Bass-Smith Funeral Home.
Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.

CARL BUCHANAN
LENOIR - Carl Buchanan, 85, of Pennwood Street, NE, died July 18, 2000, at Caldwell Memorial Hospital.
Born May 26, 1915, in Avery County, he was a son of the late Ed and Dovie Buchanan.
A member of Lower Creek Baptist Church, he was owner of Wilkes Motor Shop.
A Shriner, he also was a member of Hibriten Masonic Lodge 262 A.F. and A.M.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.
Survivors include his wife, Ruby Pennell Buchanan; and two sisters, Mildred Ollis and Ruth Hoilman of Newland.
The funeral will be conducted by Dr. Billy Rivers at 2 p.m. today at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home.
Burial will be in Blue Ridge Memorial Park with Masonic graveside rites.
Pallbearers will be the members of the Hibriten Masonic Lodge 262.

GRANITE FALLS - Robert Lee Annas, 55, of Hickory Street in Rhodhiss, died July 17, 2000, at his residence.
Born Feb. 13, 1945, in Caldwell County, he was a son of the late Willie G. and Virgie Nelson Annas.
He was an employee of a hosiery mill and an electrical helper.
He was preceded in death by a brother, James Edgar “Jimmy” Annas.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Tamara and Richard McRary of Hickory; three sisters, Betty Lou Hand of Salt Springs, Fla., Shirley Ann Brinkley of Granite Falls and Linda Kay Ferguson of Charleston, S.C.; two step-grandchildren, Cody McRary and Alyssa McRary.
The funeral will be conducted by the Rev. Joel Cook at 2 p.m. Friday at Mackie-High Funeral Home.
Burial will be in Mount Zion Baptist Church Cemetery.

LINDSAY G. RUSSELL, Jr.
TAYLORSVILLE - Lindsay Garland Russell, Jr., 57, of Balsam Lane in Maiden, died July 19, 2000, at Catawba Memorial Hospital.
Born April 26, 1943, in Alexander County, he was a son of Lena Wilkins Russell of Moravian Falls, and the late Lindsay Russell, Sr.
A Baptist, he was a former employee of Sherrill Furniture and was educated in Alexander County Schools.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Dennis Eugene Russell and Howard Thomas “Jimmy” Russell; and a nephew, Leonard Douglas Russell.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Morgan Russell; a son, Lindsay Junior “Jimmy” Russell of Hickory, and friend, Darla Hart; a daughter, Anita K. Russell of Maiden; three brothers, Gerald “Jerry” Russell of Moravian Falls, Leonard Charles Russell of Hickory, and Major Dennis Russell of Eglin A.F. Base, Fla.; three sisters, Harriet “Pat” Tyler of Hickory, Annie R. Robinette of Taylorsville, and Mary Teague of Bethlehem; and a grandchild, Brandy Hart.
The funeral will be conducted by the Revs. Doug Foster and Bill Orren at 4 p.m. today at Mount Olive Baptist Church.
The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.

MORGANTON - Emory Delion “Lon” Clark, 72, of Hartland Road, died July 18, 2000, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, after a period of declining health.
Born Aug. 9, 1927, in Catawba County, he was a son of the late Theodore R. and Cordie Berry Clark.
He attended Hartland Baptist Church and retired as co-owner of C & C Woodworking in Lenoir.
He was preceded in death by a son, David Clark.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Jo Anne Williams Clark; a son and daughter-in-law, Danny D. and Amie Clark of Morganton; two daughters and sons-in-law, Ruth A. and John Suttle and Connie and Wayne Freeman of Morganton; two brothers, T.R. Clark, Jr. of Lenoir, and Doug Clark of Morganton; three sisters, Lois Arney, Joyce LeFevre and Brenda Crowe of Lenoir; three grandsons, David Hembree, Chris Clark and David Clark; a granddaughter, Brittany Suttle; three step-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren.
