DALLAS MYERS
GRANITE FALLS - Dallas Myers, 83, of Myers Road, died July 20, 2000, at his residence.
Born Nov. 1, 1916, in Wilkes County, he was a son of the late Spurgeon R.S. and Nettie Belle Harris Myers.
A member of Sweet Home Baptist Church in Wilkesboro, he retired from Singer Furniture.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Zettie Tevepaugh.
Survivors include his companion, Bessie C. Hutchins; eight brothers, Raymond Myers of Jonesville, James Myers of Tennessee, L.P. Myers and Silas Myers of Cycle, Luke Myers of Granite Falls, Commie Lee Myers of Harmony, and Paul Myers of Winston-Salem; two sisters, Ina Gallaher of Harmony, and Dovie Hobbs of Augusta, S.C.
The funeral will be conducted by the Revs. R.C. Redmond and J.W. Myers at 2 p.m. today at his church.
The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mackie-High Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
ELEANOR DODWELL
Eleanor Dodwell, 61, of First Avenue, NW, died July 19, 2000, at her residence.
Born April 14, 1939, in Cambridge, Ma., she was a daughter of the late Ruth Gould.
She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Dodwell.
Survivors include four sons, Bob Donaldson of Pensacola, Fla., Ken Donaldson of Jacksonville, Wayne Donaldson of Hickory, and David Dodwell of Wisconsin; a daughter, Teresa Donaldson of Boston, Mass.; and seven grandchildren.
A memorial service will be conducted by the Rev. Floyd Boston at 7:30 tonight at Bass-Smith Funeral Home.
The family will be at the funeral home following the service.
MARTHA F. ALLEN
NORTH WILKESBORO - Martha Ford Allen, 53, of Gladys Fork Road in Ferguson, died July 20, 2000, at Wilkes Regional Medical Center.
Born Aug. 23, 1946, in Wilkes County, she was a daughter of Ann Curtis Ford of Kings Creek, and the late William Ford.
Survivors, in addition to her mother, include her husband, Tommy Allen; two sons, Dennis Bryant and Scott Bryant of Hickory; and a daughter, Lori Sanders of Hickory.
The funeral will be conducted by the Rev. David Noyles at 4 p.m. Sunday at Miller Funeral Service.
Burial will be in Allen Cemetery.
The family will be at the funeral home from 6:30 to 8:30 tonight.
HELEN M. HEFNER
Helen Motley Hefner, 71, of Hickory, died July 21, 2000, at Camelot Manor in Granite Falls.
Born Jan. 1, 1921, she was a daughter of the late Albert and Kate Parlier.
She was a registered nurse and worked as a nursing supervisor at Frye Hospital for a number of years and was a health nurse in Cleveland County.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth Parlier; and two sisters, Margaret Williams and Betty Jo Parlier.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, John and Ronda Motley; a daughter and son-in-law, Gaye and Richard Tucker; two stepsons and daughters-in-law, Dick and Kathi Hefner of Concord, and Jim and Luann Hefner of California; six grandchildren, Reshea Tucker and John Tucker of Granite Falls, Chad Tucker of Wake Forest, Shane Motley and Travis Motley of Hickory, and Dana Motley Davis of Shelby; four great-grandchildren, Nakia Maria, Michael Aaron, Samantha Michelle and Hannah Kathryn Tucker; and step-grandchildren, Jason, Nathan, Matt, AJ and Zack.
A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday at Bass-Smith Funeral Home.
The family will be at the funeral home one hour prior to the service and at the residence of Gaye Tucker, 1336 Sixth St., NW, Hickory, at other times.

WILLIAM B. JOLLY
TAYLORSVILLE - William Blake Jolly, 67, died July 20, 2000, at his residence.
Born Aug. 17, 1932, in Alexander County, he was a son of the late Lawrence and Maidlean Chapman Jolly.
A member of St. Luke Lutheran Church, he was a cattle and poultry farmer and a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Nancy Pamela Jolly; and an infant brother, Ned Jolly.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Brown Jolly; a daughter and son-in-law, Dianne and Dale White of Taylorsville; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Winfred and Martha Jolly and Grady and Janice Jolly of Taylorsville; a sister and brother-in-law, Mary F. and William Cline of Taylorsville; two aunts, Luda Little and Lena Barnes of Taylorsville; a grandson, Wes White of Taylorsville; a granddaughter, Laura White of Taylorsville; and a number of nephews and nieces.
The funeral will be conducted by the Rev. Larry Swidzinski at 4 p.m. Sunday at his church.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Bradley Cline, Vince Jolly, Terry Brown, Danny Brown, Lee Jolly, Jody Jolly and Dale Bowman.

OSCAR A. HEFNER
CONOVER - Oscar “Bud” Alexander Hefner, 88, of Sixth Street, SW, died July 21, 2000, at Catawba Memorial Hospital in Hickory.
Born June 20, 1912, in Catawba County, he was a son of the late Marion and Nannie Lail Hefner.
A member of Concordia Lutheran Church, he retired from Warlong Glove Company.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Maudine Sigmon Hefner; two daughters, Ann Elizabeth Hefner and Alice Louetta Helms; two brothers; four sisters; and a great-granddaughter, Allison Marie Holland.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Eubert Sigmon of Claremont; two sisters, Estelle Carpenter of Claremont, and Carrie Sigmon of Newton; six grandchildren, Dawn Misenheimer, Danny Sigmon, Keith Sigmon, Kimberly Holland, Tony Helms and Sherry Miller; seven great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
The funeral will be conducted by the Rev. Donald Oldenburg at 2 p.m. Monday at his church.

WILLIAM H. GILBERT
FLORENCE, S.C. - William Hugo Gilbert, 85, died July 21, 2000, in an area hospital after a period of declining health.
Born in Newton, N.C., he was a son of the late John O. and Mary Emma Hunsucker Gilbert.
A member of First Baptist Church, he was also a member of King's Men Sunday School Class.
A member of the Retired Railroad Employees Club, the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and the Noon Optimist Club, he retired as an engineer from ACL Railroad.
Survivors include his wife, Pauline Culpepper “Polly” Gilbert; two sons and daughters-in-law, William D. and Dee Gilbert of Suffolk, Va., and Michael H. and Dixie Gilbert of Florence; two granddaughters, Mary Margaret “Meg” Gilbert of Suffolk, Va., and Macey Stanton Gilbert of Florence; a grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Michael H. and Molly Gilbert, Jr. of Richmond, Va.; and a great-grandson, Frederick Oliver Gilbert of Richmond, Va.
The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Waters-Powell Funeral Home.
Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.

STONY POINT - Lou Dyson Askew, 83, of Stony Point, died July 22, 2000, in Alexander County Community Hospital after a period of declining health.
Born June 25, 1917, in Wilkes County, she was a daughter of the late Robert L. and Tishey Laws Dyson.
A member of Stony Point Tabernacle Church, she was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Edith Whitley; three brothers; and a sister.
Survivors include her husband, Clarence Askew; two sisters, Elizabeth Kelly and Ethel Connolly of Altamonte Springs, Fla.
The funeral will be conducted by the Rev. Chuck Hager at 2 p.m. Monday at Chapman Funeral Home.
Burial will be in Zion Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Wilkes County.
The family will be at the funeral home from 7 to 9 tonight.
ROBERT L. SETTLEMYER
TAYLORSVILLE - Robert Lee Settlemyer, 82, of Taylorsville, died July 21, 2000, at his residence.
Born March 2, 1918, in Iredell County, he was a son of the late Charles and Nora Brotherton Settlemyre.
A member of Beulah Baptist Church, he retired from Ideal Frank and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma Lail Settlemyer; five brothers, Beauford Settlemyre, James Settlemyre, Cecil Settlemyre, Phillip Settlemyre and an infant brother; two sisters, Frances Holifield and Lorene Wilhelm; and a grandson, Stacy Settlemyer.
Survivors include a son, Gary Settlemyer of Taylorsville; three daughters, Brenda Shook of Taylorsville, Gail Millsaps of Hiddenite, and Jean Dillard of Statesville; stepmother, Niece Marlow Settlemyer of Mooresville; a brother, Henry Settlemyer of Kannapolis; two sisters, Ruby Archer of Mooresville , and Ruth Beam of Troutman; three half brothers, Steve Settlemyre of Morganton, Johnny Settlemyer of Cleveland, Ga., and Clifford Settlemyer of Mooresville; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a number of nephews and nieces.
The funeral will be conducted by the Rev. Chase White at 2 p.m. today at his church.
Burial will be in Taylorsville City Cemetery.
Pallbearers will include his grandsons, Chuck Millsaps, Matt Millsaps, Tim Stewart, William Shook, Jeff Settlemyer and Jason Settlemyer.
