FULMER F. GRIFFIN, Sr.
LENOIR - Fulmer Frank Griffin, Sr., 68, of Delwood Drive, SW, died July 22, 2000, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.
Born Sept. 28, 1931, in York County, S.C., he was a son of the late John F. and Samantha Elrod Griffin.
He attended Whitnel United Methodist Church and retired from Wal-Mart as a truck driver.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Tom Griffin.
Survivors include his wife, Bernice Lane Griffin; two sons, Fulmer Frank Griffin, Jr. of Gallatin, Tenn., and Thomas Craig Griffin of Douglas, Ga.; two daughters, Lane Griffin Fritsch of North Palm Beach, Fla., and Anna Griffin Clifton of Deland, Fla.; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Margie Griffin McGee of Morganton and Thelma and Whitey Hawkins of Lenoir; and six grandchildren, Frank Griffin, III, Anna Griffin, Katharine Griffin, Kenneth Walker, IV, Matthew Walker and Aaron Walker.
The funeral will be conducted by the Revs. David Lookadoo and Wayne Dills at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home.
Burial will be in Blue Ridge Memorial Park.
The family will be at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 tonight.
TOM BASINGER
Tom Basinger, 79, of Liberty Church Road, died July 22, 2000, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.
Born May 10, 1921, in Richfield, he was a son of the late Walter M. and Iris Culp Basinger.
He retired as a carpenter and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served in the infantry in Guam, New Guinea and the Phillippines. He also was a member of American Legion Post 48.
He was preceded in death by an infant son, Thomas Hendrix Basinger; four brothers, Edward Basinger, Clay Basinger, Alton Basinger and Roger Basinger; and a sister, Mamie Sides.
Survivors include his wife, Vivian Hendrix Basinger; a brother, Emanuel Basinger of Richfield; and six sisters, Ruby Weaisner, Claudine Hinson and Isabelle Rowland of Albemarle, Ann Henry of New London, and Jennie Polizze and Stella Kirk of Richfield.
The funeral will be conducted by the Rev. Benny Hendrix at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Bass-Smith Funeral Home.
Burial will be in Catawba Memorial Park with military graveside rites conducted by members of American Legion Post 48.
Pallbearers will be Mike Watson, Jeff Watson, Tony Watson, Scott Church, Chris Watson and Todd Lynn.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jackie Bowman, Bud Bowman, Larry Hendrix, Terry Hendrix, Charles Thompson, Geoffrey Watson and Patrick Watson.
The family will be at the funeral home from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Tuesday.
KENNETH W. CLONTZ
VALDESE - Kenneth Wayne Clontz, 60, of Emerson Court, Connelly Springs, died July 22, 2000, at Valdese General Hospital after a period of declining health.
Born July 18, 1940, in Burke County, he was a son of the late Ivey V. and Rebecca McNeilly Clontz.
A member of Asheville Street Baptist Church in Morganton, he was a commercial sign artist. He also served in the U.S. Air Force.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Vernon Wilber Clontz.
Survivors include his wife, Doris Scott Clontz; a son, Christopher Scott Clontz of the home; two daughters, Ginger C. Swanson of Hildebran and Stephanie Bradshaw of Valdese; a stepson, Robert Steven Davis of Morganton; a grandson, Dusty Dale Swanson of Hildebran; and a number of nephews and nieces.
The funeral will be conducted by the Rev. Barry Camp at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Harvest Praise Church in Morganton.
Burial will be in Burke Memorial Park with military rites conducted by members of American Legion Post 234 of Valdese.
The family will be at the church 30 minutes prior to the service.

JOSEPH S. BANACH
Joseph Stanley Banach, 84, died July 23, 2000, at the Lutheran Nursing Home.
Born Feb. 16, 1916, in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was a son of the late Stanislaus and Eva Wiechnik Banach.
A member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church, he retired from General Electric as a designer and engineer of safety equipment.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene Anne Banach.
Survivors include a son, Richard J. Banach of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a daughter, Alexandra Millholland of Hickory; four grandsons, Richard J. Banach, Jr., Matthew Banach, Philip F. Banach and Keona C. Millholland; and a granddaughter, Marjorie M. Dahlstrom.
A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Bass-Smith Funeral Home.
The funeral will be conducted by the Rev. Joseph Waters at 10 a.m. Thursday at his church.
Burial will be in Catawba Memorial Park.

STONY POINT - Arthur Thomas Boston, 76, of Little River Church Road, Taylorsville, died July 22, 2000, at Alexander Community Hospital after a period of declining health.
Born Dec. 5, 1923, in Catawba County, he was a son of the late Charlie and Addie Boston.
A Baptist, he retired as a sawmill and furniture worker and was later self-employed.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Genvia Howell Boston; two brothers, Turner Boston and Ester Boston; and seven sisters, Idna Campbell, Lillian Williams, Pearl Barber, Carrie Boston, Blanche Turner, Mae Jolley and Anna Flowers.
Survivors include a daughter, Retha Boston Simms of Hickory; a sister, Bessie Hawks of Pantego; five grandchildren; a number of great-grandchildren; and a number of nephews and nieces.
The funeral will be conducted by the Rev. James Millsaps at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Chapman Funeral Home.
Burial will be in St. Johns Baptist Church Cemetery.

GRANITE FALLS - Dallas Myers, 83, of Myers Road, died July 20, 2000, at his residence.
Born Nov. 1, 1916, in Wilkes County, he was a son of the late Spurgeon Robert S. and Nettie Belle Harris Myers.
A member of Sweet Home Baptist Church in Wilkesboro, he retired from Singer Furniture.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Zettie Tevepaugh.
Survivors include his companion, Bessie C. Hutchins; three sons, Ira Myers and Jerry Myers of Wilkesboro and Gaither Myers of Connecticut; three daughters, Rachel Wyatt and Helen Williams of Wilkesboro and Frances Johnson of Hayes; eight brothers, Raymond Myers of Jonesville, James Myers of Tennessee, John Myers of Ronda, L.P. Myers and Silas Myers of Cycle, Luke Myers of Granite Falls, Commie Lee Myers of Harmony and Paul Myers of Winston-Salem; two sisters, Ina Gallaher of Harmony and Dovie Hobbs of Augusta, S.C.; seven grandchildren; and seven great- grandchildren.
The funeral was conducted by the Revs. R.C. Redmond and J.W. Myers Saturday at his church.
Burial was in the church cemetery.

Alma Pearline England Mullen, 83, of South Ervin Avenue, Newton, died July 22, 2000, at Catawba Memorial Hospital after a period of declining health.
Born Sept. 9, 1916, in Catawba County, she was a daughter of the late Pete and Pearl Rudisell England.
A member of Snow Hill AME Zion Church, where she was a trustee, missionary and class leader, she was employed by the Coles Gaither Family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Vester Mullen; two brothers; and four sisters.
Survivors include two sisters, Cathryn Anthony of Newton and Ivey Williams of Fayetteville; three grandsons, Preston Coulter, Cecil Coulter, Jr. and Shelton Coulter of Newton; three granddaughters, Judy Bonds, Sadie Coulter and Bessie Coulter of Newton; and a number of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.
The funeral will be conducted by Elder W.L. Bailey, the Rev. Joseph Shaw and Hilda Bailey at 3 p.m. Thursday at her church.
Burial will be in Central Cemetery.

COLUMBIA, S.C. - Edna H. Gragg, 85, died July 21, 2000.
Born Sept. 14, 1914, she was a daughter of the late Bruce A. and Fannie Belle Brittain Hudson.
A member of Kilbourne Park Baptist Church, she was a graduate of Kings Business College in Asheville.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth M. Gragg; a brother, Glenn Hudson; and two sisters, Donnie H. Hayes and Lucy H. Robbins.
Survivors include two daughters, Linda G. Hilliard of North Augusta and Jane G. Lewis of Laguna Niguel, Calif.; three brothers, Bruce Hudson, Jr. of Hickory, N.C., Truman Hudson of Gastonia, N.C., and Britt Hudson of Asheville, N.C.; a sister, Dot H. Meadows of Hickory, N.C.; two grandsons, Pearce Truesdale of North Augusta and Tom Truesdale of Leesville; two granddaughters, Eryn L. Briner of Fairbanks, Ark., and Britta L. Wahl of Bitburg, Germany; and a great-granddaughter, Alexandra Truesdale of Leesville.

Henry Lee Ford, 77, died July 22, 2000, at the Veterans Affairs Hospital in Salisbury after a period of declining health.
Born Oct. 5, 1922, in Gaston County, he was a son of the late George E. and Iris Sloan Ford.
He retired from the textile industry in Hickory. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he received a battlefield commission, earning the rank of Lieutenant, and was awarded three Purple Hearts.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille Campbell Ford.
Survivors include a son, Henry Lee “Jeep” Ford, Jr. of Vale; a daughter, Beth Simmons of Cookeville, Tenn.; a stepson, Dr. Ned H. Euliss, Jr. of Jamestown, N.D.; two stepdaughters, Judith E. Barlow of Lenoir, and Barbara E. Stewart of Statesville; a nephew, Leigh Ford of Charlotte; and two grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted by the Rev. Homer Greene at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Catawba Memorial Park with military rites conducted by members of American Legion Post 48 of Hickory.
