SAUL S. TURNER
SUMTER, S.C. - Saul S. Turner, 66, died July 22, 2000, at Tuomey Healthcare System.
Born in Sumter, he was a son of the late Clifton and Effie Brewer Turner.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Hazel Turner and Isadore Turner; and a sister, Geneva Lloyd.
Survivors include his wife, Imogene S. Turner; two sons, John Turner and Keith Turner of Sumter; two daughters, Shirley J. Price of Niceville, Fla., and Faye Turner of Hickory, N.C.; two brothers, Rufus Turner of Pinewood and Stubs Turner of Sumter; two sisters, Ruth Mathis and Lois Yarbrough of Sumter; eight grandchildren; and three great- grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted by the Revs. Dale Turner and G.W. Harrell at 2 p.m. today at Elmore-Hill- McCreight Funeral Home.
Burial will be in Calvary Nazarene Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons and nephews.
Memorials may be made to American Heart Association or American Diabetes Association.

JAMES E. RENDLEMAN
James “Bill” Edward Rendleman, 85, of First Avenue, SE, died July 22, 2000, at Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Asheville.
Born July 15, 1915, in Lincoln County, he was a son of the late Edward and Bessie Link Rendleman.
A member of Links Chapel A.M.E Zion Church, he was the Sunday school superintendent, trustee and class leader. He retired from Southern Railroad after 34 years of service.
He was preceded in death by seven brothers and four sisters.
Survivors include his wife, Doris Rendleman; a son, Eddie Rendleman of Germany; a stepson, Maurice Henderson of Hickory; three brothers, Tillis Rendleman of Hickory, Russell Rendleman of Columbus, Ohio, and Paul Rendleman of Newark, N.J.; three brothers-in-law, Allen Hart of Wilmington, Del., Franklin Wilfong of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Terry Wilfong of Hickory; six sisters- in-law, Lucille Rendleman, Nancy Saddler, Vicky Rhyne, Judy Eckard and Mildred Williams of Hickory and Geneva Rendleman of Columbus, Ohio; and a step-grandson, Maurice Rashard Henderson of Hickory.
The funeral will be conducted by the Rev. Michael Rollins at 3 p.m. Thursday at his church.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will be at the church 30 minutes prior to the service.
Dirk M. Thompson Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

JAMES O. WOODWARD, Jr.
TAYLORSVILLE - James Oliver Woodward, Jr., 63, of Wilmington, formerly of Alexander County, died July 24, 2000, in Pender County.
Born May 8, 1937, in Alexander County, he was a son of the late James O. and Sarah Head Woodward, Sr.
A member of St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Wilmington, he retired as a pilot from U.S. Air. He also was a member of the QB (Quiet Birdmen) Pilot's Club and the Piedmont Breakfast Club. He was a 32nd Degree Mason member of St. John's Lodge 1, Sudan Temple in Wilmington and the Scottish Rite of Freemasons.
Survivors include his wife, Shelby Hammer Woodward; two sons, Nathan “Scott” Woodward of Wilmington and “James” Oliver Woodward II of Indiana; a brother, Donald Woodward of Hiddenite; a sister, Doris Woodward Rash of Statesville; a granddaughter, Sarah Elizabeth Woodward of Wilmington; a number of nephews and nieces; and friends, Terri Parham and family.
The funeral will be conducted by the Rev. Larry Swidzinski at noon Thursday at Alexander Funeral Service.
Burial will be in Hiddenite Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by members of Lee Lodge 253.
Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers will be Cyril Hammer, Jr., Ken A. Hammer, Scott Woodward, James Woodward III, William Hammer, Richard Woodward and Darren Rash.
The family will be at the funeral home one hour prior to the service and at the residence of Lula Mae Hammer, 231 South Sixth St., SW, Taylorsville, at other times.
Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 2994, Hickory, N.C. 28603.

ROBERT E. RALPH
LENOIR - Robert Eugene Ralph, 48, of Playmore Beach Road, died at Caldwell Memorial Hospital.
Born Nov. 3, 1951, in Macomb, Ill., he was a son of Vivian Humphrey Ralph of Macomb, Ill., and the late George E. Ralph.
A Baptist, he was employed with Sprint Telephone Company of Hickory and served in the U.S. Navy.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Ronnie Ralph.
Survivors, in addition to his mother, include a daughter, Bobbie Ralph of Lenoir; a stepdaughter, Mary Avery of Lenoir; two brothers, Rodney Ralph of Atlanta, Ga., and Stanley Ralph of Crystal River, Fla.; a sister, Sandy Ralph of Atlanta; and a grandchild.
The funeral will be held at a later date.
Greer-McElveen Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

JOSEPH S. BANACH
Joseph Stanley Banach, 84, died July 23, 2000, at the Lutheran Nursing Home.
Born Feb. 16, 1916, in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was a son of the late Stanislaus and Eva Wiechnik Banach.
A member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church, he retired from General Electric as a designer and engineer of safety equipment.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene Anne Banach.
Survivors include a son, Richard J. Banach of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a daughter, Alexandra Millholland of Hickory; four grandsons, Richard J. Banach, Jr., Matthew Banach, Philip F. Banach and Keona C. Millholland; and a granddaughter, Marjorie M. Dahlstrom.
A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. tonight at Bass-Smith Funeral Home.
The funeral will be conducted by the Rev. Joseph Waters at 10 a.m. Thursday at his church.
Burial will be in Catawba Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Philip F. Banach, Keona C. Millholland, John D. Dahlstrom, Jr. and John G. Millholland.
The family will remain at the funeral home after the prayer service.
Memorials may be made to St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 921 Second St., NE, Hickory, N.C. 28601; or Lutheran Nursing Home, 1265 Twenty-first St., NE, Hickory, N.C. 28601.

LEE R. HUGHES
CONOVER - Lee Roy Hughes, 60, of Otto Lane, died July 24, 2000, at his residence.
Born Sept. 15, 1939, in Yancey County, he was a son of the late Gib and Dorothy Hoover Hughes.
A member of Bowditch Union Church in Yancey County, he was employed by Garrett Dyer Ford in Conover for 27 years.
Survivors include his wife, Mona Lee Jarrett Hughes; a son, William David Hughes of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Dwayne C. Baker of Conover; two brothers, Jimmy Hughes of Bakersville and Johnny Hughes of Red Hill; two sisters, Becky McKinney of Micaville and Louise Stamey of Morganton; a half brother, Renous Hoover of Micaville; and two grandsons, Travis Baker and Brandon Baker.
A graveside service will be conducted by the Rev. Wade Murphy at 2 p.m. Thursday in Carroway Cemetery.
The family will be at Drum Funeral Home from 7 to 8:30 tonight.
Drum Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

EDWARD MURPHY
LINCOLNTON - Edward Murphy, 80, of Self Street in Cherryville, died July 23, 2000, at Gaston Memorial Hospital.
Born March 5, 1920, in Hartsville, S.C., he was a son of the late Oliver and Carrie Nedham Murphy.
A member of Oak Grove A.M.E. Zion Church, he retired from a dry wall finisher and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
He was preceded in death by 11 brothers and sisters.
Survivors include a friend of 17 years, Ida Roseboro of Cherryville; three nephews, Harrington Hooks, Eathen Hooks of Washington, D.C., and Donald Murphy of Raleigh; four nieces, Sarah Young, Elizabeth Hooks, Paulette Glenn of Washington and Carreanna Exum of Upper Marlboro, Md.; and a number of other relatives and friends.
The funeral will be conducted by the Rev. Walter Adams at 4 p.m. today at his church.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will be at the church one hour prior to the service and at his residence at other times.
Ebony and White's Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

HARRY HOYLE
LINCOLNTON - Harry Hoyle, 69, of Lithia Lane, died July 24, 2000, at Lincoln Medical Center.
Born July 9, 1931, in Lincoln County, he was a son of the late Marcus H. and Marie Rudisill Hoyle Sr.
A member of First Presbyterian Church, he was co-owner of Hoyle Motor Co. and was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Abernethy Hoyle; two sons, John Hoyle and David Hoyle of Lincolnton; a daughter, Beth Gilleland of Lincolnton; a brother, Hal Hoyle, Jr.; and five grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted by the Rev. Mary McKey at 3 p.m. today in Hollybrook Cemetery.
Warlick Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

PEARLIE S. SHOUPE
TAYLORSVILLE - Pearlie “Sue” Stanley Shoupe, 44, died July 25, 2000, at her residence.
Born Nov. 13, 1955, in Oneida, Ky., she was a daughter of Mamie Elizabeth Lee Stanley Proffitt of London, Ky., and the late Emory Walter Stanley.
A member of East Taylorsville Baptist Church, she was employed by Escod Industries.
Survivors, in addition to her mother, include a son, Jonathan Shoupe of the home; two daughters and a son-in-law, Melinda and Eddie Ray Henson of Manchester, Ky., and Melissa Shoupe of the home; three sisters, Lizzie Caudill of London, Brenda Price of Colombus, Mass., and Virginia Little of Taylorsville; and a number of nephews and nieces.
The funeral will be conducted by the Revs. Craig Hamlin and Gary Jennings at 8 p.m. today at her church.
Burial will be in Hounshell Bend Cemetery in Oneida, Ky.
The family will be at the church two hours prior to the service.
A memorial service will be held at Wildcat Mennonite Church in Oneida, Ky., at 4 p.m. Friday.
The family will be at the church one hour prior to the service.
Alexander Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

JUNIOR G. BEACH
LENOIR - Junior Glenn Beach, 69, of Clarks Chapel Road, died July 24, 2000, at Frye Regional Medical Center.
Born March 26, 1931, in Watauga County, he was a son of the late Lillard and Margaret Sophorenia Day Beach.
A member of Whitnel First Baptist Church, he retired from Broyhill and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Earl Beach.
Survivors include his wife, Elsie Greer Beach; three sons, Michael Glen Beach of Hudson, Lesle Gevan “Van” Beach of Lawndale and Bradley Darrell “Pug” Beach of Lenoir; a daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl and Kenneth Hinson of Lenoir; a brother, Claude Beach of Raleigh; two sisters, Ellamae Woodie of Morganton and Ruth Pearl South of Granite Falls; eight grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
A graveside service will be conducted by the Rev. Bud Jernigan at 2 p.m. today at his church.
Pendry's Lenoir Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
