HETTIE K. HERALD
LENOIR - Hettie Cloe Killian Herald, 88, of Simmons Circle, died July 26, 2000, at her residence.
Born Dec. 6, 1911, in Caldwell County, she was a daughter of the late Perry and Lillie Colvard Killian.
A Baptist, she was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Isaac Herald; an infant son; two daughters, Christine Williams and Lillie Herald; three brothers; and a sister.
Survivors include a son, James Issace Herald of Lenoir; three daughters, Pauline Simmons and Lucille Herald of Lenoir, and Reba Lewis of Granite Falls; a brother, Rob Killian of Mortimer; a sister, Mary Shuford of Hildebran; six grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted by the Revs. Clint Coffey and Dale Matheson at 2 p.m. Saturday at Pendry's Lenoir Funeral Home.
Burial will be in Mortimer Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Shew, William Herald, Grant Bowers, Shane Hollars, Anthony Grizzle and Clarence White.
The family will be at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 tonight.

DONNA S. ROBINSON
VALDESE - Donna Wraye Stillwell Robinson, 45, of Lovelady Road in Rutherford College, died July 26, 2000, at Caldwell Memorial Hospital.
Born July 14, 1955, in Burke County, she was a daughter of Jewell Crisp Stillwell of Valdese, and the late Clifford S. Stillwell.
A member of Evangelical Methodist Church of Rutherford College, she served as president of the Evangelical Methodist Women, chairwoman of the Helping Hands committee and kitchen committee, and a treasurer of the youth committee.
She was employed as a secretary of Robinson Hosiery Mill, Inc.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Dianne Crossley.
Survivors, in addition to her mother, include her husband, Edgar Alton Robinson; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jeffrey A. and Michelle Robinson and Kenneth A. and Tamare Robinson of Rutherford College; a daughter and son-in-law, Karen D. and Justin Abernathy of Hildebran; two sisters, Judy Abernethy Childers of Rutherford College, and Linda S. Rogers of Hickory; a mother-in-law, Ruby M. Robinson of Rutherford College; and three grandchildren, Jarrett Taylor Robinson, Abby Brooke Robinson and Courtney Blair Robinson of Rutherford College.
The funeral will be conducted by the Revs. Robert Gober, R.L. Icard and Travis Osward at 2 p.m. Saturday at her church.
The body will be placed in the church, 30 minutes prior to the service.
Burial will be in Burke Memorial Park.

HATTIE S. HUFFMAN
FALLSTON - Hattie Canipe Sain Huffman, 78, of Twenty-first Street, SE, Hickory, formerly of Toluca, died July 26, 2000, at Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation.
Born Dec. 22, 1921, in Cleveland County, she was a daughter of the late Rome and Jane Pruett Canipe.
She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Clarence Sain; her second husband, Leonard Huffman; two sons, Edgar Sain and Wayne Huffman; three brothers, Roscoe Smith, Rance Smith and Tommy Canipe; two sisters, Nellie Hendrick and Lois Swink; and two grandsons, Jerry Bradshaw and Larry Bradshaw.
Survivors include a son, Bobby Sain of Casar; two daughters, Katherine Hoyle of Hickory, and Nancy Lackey of Taylorsville; a brother, Junior Canipe of Lawndale; two sisters, Mozelle Warlick of Casar, and Leona Smith of Lawndale; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted by the Revs. Terrill Crump and Harold Cantrell at 3 p.m. Saturday at Olive Grove Baptist Church.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.

HERBERT CAMP
LINCOLNTON - Herbert Camp, 52, of Sorrells Baxter Road in Cherryville, died July 25, 2000, at his residence.
Born Jan. 3, 1948, in Lincoln County, he was a son of Henry and Janie Patterson Camp of Cherryville.
A member of Zion Hill Baptist Church, he was employed at J.P. Stevens.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Carl Camp.
Survivors, in addition to his parents, include his former wife, Vickie Smith Camp; three sons and a daughter-in-law, Herbert and Claudell Camp of Atlanta, Ga., Victor Jermaine Camp and Muhammad Ali Camp of the home; a brother, Curt Camp of Cherryville; six sisters and four brothers-in-law, Henrietta T. and Walter Richardson of Cleveland, Ohio, Elizabeth and Charles Chislom of Maiden, Barbara and Walker Gilliam of Dallas, Debra and Joseph Maddox, Diane Camp and Oradell Catlin of Cherryville; five grandchildren; two uncles; and four aunts.
The funeral will be conducted by the Rev. Bill D. Houze at 3 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church of Lawndale.

MORGANTON - Dovie Louise Carswell Houk, 83, of Morganton, died July 27, 2000, at Grace Heights.
Born April 30, 1917, in Burke County, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Martha Chapman Carswell.
She was a member of McDowell Presbyterian Church.
She was preceded in death by a son; four brothers; and a sister.
Survivors include her husband, Earl Houk; a sister, Mary Carswell Norman of Morganton; a grandson, Steve Houk of Morganton; two great- grandchildren; and a number of nephews and nieces.
A graveside service will be conducted by her nephews, Sid Houk, at 11 a.m. today in Burke Memorial Park Cemetery.
The family will be at the Kirksey Funeral Home from 10 to 10:30 a.m. today.
WILLIAM M. LITAKER, Sr.
William Mundy Litaker, Sr., 65, of Hickory, died July 28, 2000, at his residence.
Born Aug. 27, 1934, in Albemarle, he was a son of the late Charles and Frankie Mundy Litaker.
A member of St. Andrew's Lutheran Church, he retired from Hickory City Schools after serving as an educator for 31 years.
He served as a Sunday school teacher, Sunday school superintendent and on the church council at his church.
A graduate of Lenoir-Rhyne College, he received a Master's degree from Appalachian State University and was an Eagle Scout.
Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Ann Suther Litaker; a son and daughter-in-law, Dr. William M. and Paula Litaker, Jr. of Hickory; a daughter, Tracy Ann Litaker of Anaheim, Calif.; a brother, Charles Litaker, Jr. of Hickory; a sister, Frances Litaker Boyd of Hickory; a grandson, Benjamin Litaker of Hickory; and a granddaughter, Kylie Litaker of Hickory.
A memorial service will be conducted by the Rev. Richard W. Fritz, Jr. at 1 p.m. Monday at his church.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will remain at the church after the service.

Phyllis Stafford Benfield, 74, of Sixteenth Street, NE, died July 28, 2000, at Catawba Memorial Hospital.
Born Aug. 17, 1925, in Alexander County, she was a daughter of the late Lloyd and Amanda Smith Stafford.
A member of Sandy Ridge Baptist Church, she was employed by Southern Glove in Newton and was later a homemaker.
She taught Sunday school and led the church's youth group.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Lois A. Jenkins.
Survivors include her husband, Homer Benfield; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Harold Benfield of Hickory, and Kelvin and Candace Benfield of Charlotte; a daughter, Leemanda Benfield of Hickory; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Joann and Henry Wagner and Sarah Vivian Bowman of Hickory; a granddaughter, Lauren Benfield of Charlotte; and a number of nephews and nieces.
The funeral will be conducted by the Revs. Homer Greene, Jerry Laughter and Tom Huntsinger at 11 a.m. Tuesday at her church.
The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service.
Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.

CONOVER - Lola Jones Crouse, 86, of Joe Crouse Road, Maiden, died July 29, 2000, at Catawba Memorial Hospital.
Born Oct. 16, 1913, in Catawba County, she was a daughter of the late Robert L. and Ida Goodson Jones.
A member of Center View Baptist Church, she was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe F. Crouse; and two brothers, Burton Jones and Cletus Jones.
Survivors include a son, Wade Crouse of Newton; two daughters, Colleen Gilleland of Maiden, and Ailleen Little of Denver; a sister, Julia Hicks of Maiden; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Born July 31, 1930, in Catawba County, he was a son of the late Edward C. and Minnie Houston Deal.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Arthur Earl Deal.
