IDA S. TAYLOR
VALDESE - Ida Ruth Schoolfield Taylor, 65, of Gold Creek Drive, Connelly Springs, died July 29, 2000, at her residence after a period of declining health.
Born Aug. 23, 1934, in Reidsville, she was a daughter of the late Hank Schoolfield, Sr.
She retired as a winder from Supreme Elastic in Hickory.
Survivors include her husband, Robert Ray Taylor; a son, Robert Clark Bonnell of Hickory; two daughters and sons-in-law, Cynthia and Robert Littlejohn of Taylorsville, and Della and Robert Moore of Hickory; a stepson, Jeff Taylor of Hickory; a brother and sister-in-law, Hank and Thelma Schoolfield, Jr. of Winston-Salem; and five grandchildren, Candis Scott, Shannon Marley, Bobby Joe Moore, Tasha Bonnell and Robbie Littlejohn.
A graveside service will be conducted by the Rev. Paul Schronce at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Catawba Memorial Park.
The family will be at Heritage Funeral Service from 7 to 8:30 tonight.

FRED A. ELLIS
NEWTON - Fred Albert Ellis, 86, of South Caldwell Avenue, died July 29, 2000, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Oteen, after a period of declining health.
Born June 28, 1914, in Lincoln County, he was a son of the late John and Roxie Robinson Ellis.
A member of Coulter's Grove AME Zion Church, where he was on the Steward Board, he retired as a self-employed landscaper and baker.
He also was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Ellis; five brothers; and two sisters.
Survivors include two brothers and sisters-in-law, Walter J. and Evelyn Ellis of Newton, and David L. and Nora Ellis of Waterbury, Conn.; two sisters, Mattie Ikard of Maiden, and Mary M. Sherrill of Sherrills Ford; and a number of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.
The funeral will be conducted by the Rev. Walter Peques at 3 p.m. Wednesday at his church.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will be at the church 30 minutes prior to the service.
Allen Mitchell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

KRYSTEEN M. HOOLEY
WHEATLAND, Wyo. - Krysteen M. Hooley, 76, died July 25, 2000, at Platte County Memorial Hospital in Wheatland.
Born Sept. 27, 1923, in Wilmington, N.C., she was a daughter of the late Rod and Willie McCormick McLucas.
A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, she served as a messenger at the U.S. Naval Repair Base in San Diego, and was a member of the American Legion Ora Call Post 10.
She was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters.
Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Stanley T. Hooley; a son, Alex Spencer Hooley of Newcastle; a sister, Lynn Beckom of Hickory, N.C.; and a number of nephews and nieces.
The funeral was held Friday at Platte Funeral Chapel.
Burial was in Wheatland Cemetery with military graveside rites.
Memorials may be made to American Heart Association, 1807 Capitol Ave., Suite 109, Cheyenne, Wyo. 82001.

BARBARA H. HOUSTON
Barbara Elizabeth Helton Houston, 99, of Icard, died July 30, 2000, at Frye Regional Medical Center after a period of declining health.
Born June 22, 1901, in Burke County, she was a daughter of the late William F. and Rhoda Emaline Berry Helton.
A member of Shoups Grove Baptist Church, she was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Quint Edgar Houston; three sons, Glenn Houston, Paul Houston and the Rev. Clyde Houston Sr.; a daughter, Violet Brittain; a son-in-law, Donald Hoyle; two daughters-in-law, Pearl Houston and Ruth Houston; two brothers; three sisters; three grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
Survivors include five sons and daughters-in-law, Eugene and Norma Jean Houston of Maiden, D.C. and Lorene Houston, Lenorie and Roxann Houston and David “Bill” and Sue Houston of Icard, and Vernon and Jessie Houston of Hickory; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Katherine and Grover Patton of Hickory, and Betty and George Kiser and Christine Hoyle of Icard; a son-in-law, Vance Brittain of Hickory; a daughter-in-law, Flavie Houston of Icard; a sister-in-law, Keron Evans of Connelly Springs; 42 grandchildren; 79 great-grandchildren; 29 great-great-grandchildren; a great-great-great-grandchild; a number of step-great-grandchildren; and a number of nephews and nieces.
The funeral will be conducted by the Revs. J.C. Bradley and Tony Land at 11 a.m. Wednesday at her church.
The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers will be her grandsons.
Flower ladies will be her granddaughters.
The family will be at the church from 7 to 8:30 tonight.
Hickory Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

ROSE M. THOMPSON
Rose Marie Thompson, 57, of Icard, died July 30, 2000, at Frye Regional Medical Center.
Born Jan. 7, 1943, in Passaic, N.J., she was a daughter of Peter Magliarditi and the late Mary Alimo Magliarditi.
She attended Granite Falls Church of God and was employed as a paralegal.
Survivors, in addition to her father, include her husband, Verdell Thompson; a son, David Thompson of Hildebran; three daughters, Donna Helms and Doreen Abernathy of Hickory, and Denise Wiggins of Connelly Springs; a brother, Vincent Magliarditi of Clifton; five grandsons, Michael Helms, Jody Helms and Dylan Abernathy of Hickory, Daniel Thompson of Hildebran, and Tyler Wiggins of Connelly Springs; and two granddaughters, Christine Thompson of Hildebran, and Tatum Wiggins of Connelly Springs.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. today at Bass-Smith Funeral Home.
The family will remain at the funeral home after the service.
Memorials may be made to the N.C. Commission for the Blind, 207-11 Hawthorne Lane, Charlotte, N.C. 28204.

ANN B. WITHERSPOON
Ann Beaver Witherspoon, 82, of Fourteenth Street Drive, NE, died Aug. 1, 2000, at her residence.
Born July 5, 1918, in Blue Ridge, Ga., she was a daughter of the late Obe and Hattie Yelton Beaver.
A member of Tabernacle Baptist Church, she worked with Catawba Sox in Newton, for 40 years.
She was preceded in death by a son, Jimmy Witherspoon.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Frank and Jeanette Ridley of Hickory; a daughter-in-law, Sandy M. Witherspoon of Nashville, Tenn.; a brother and sister-in-law, Alvin and Carrie Yelton of Hickory; two grandsons, Benjamin Ridley of Hickory and Trevor Witherspoon of Nashville, Tenn.; a granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Amy and Nathan Prater of Montgomery, Ala.; two great-grandsons, Joshua Prater and Andrew Prater of Montgomery, Ala.; a number of nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be conducted by Pastor Phillip Vos at 11 a.m. Thursday at Bass-Smith Funeral Home.
Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Keith Stafford, David Icard, Robert Smith, George Clark, George Ritchie and James Boleman.
The family will be at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 tonight.

GUYLAR H. CHURCH
Guylar Hart Church, 96, of Hickory, died July 31, 2000, at Brian Center in Viewmont.
Born Sept. 27, 1903, in Burke County, she was a daughter of the late Jacob and Lottie White Hart.
A member of Warlicks Baptist Church, she was a former employee of Hickory Spinners.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde M. Church, Sr.; an infant son; five brothers, Arthur Hart, Willie Hart, Jimmy Hart, Gordon Hart and Edgar Hart; three sisters, Alice Bowman, Estelle Hart and Delia Annas; and a grandson, Clyde Dale Ward.
Survivors include two sons, Clyde M. Church, Jr. and Lewis Church of Hickory; three daughters, Ruby Deal and Christine Ward of Hickory, and Leona Brown of Connelly Springs; two sisters, Hester Annas of Hickory, and Alma Bowman of Georgia; 10 grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 17 step-great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted by the Rev. Gary Murray at 11 a.m. Thursday at her church.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Gary Brown, Tommy Cook, David Cook, Matt Church, Clyde Church III and David Smith.
The family will be at Bass-Smith Funeral Home from 7 to 8:30 tonight.

RANSOM R. MILLER
LENOIR - Ransom Richard Miller, 82, of Sunset Street, NW, died Aug. 1, 2000, at Caldwell County Hospice.
Born Oct. 22, 1917, in Caldwell County, he was a son of the late Coy C. and Nellie Turnmire Miller.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille Smith Miller; a brother, Rosebur J. Miller; and two sisters, Pansy Bumgarner and Ruth Moore.
A member of Yadkin Baptist Church, he retired from Thomasville Furniture Industries and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include four brothers, James D. “J.D.” Miller of Bedford, Ohio, Rufus A. Miller and Grady C. Miller of Lenoir, and Ned C. Miller of Patterson; two sisters, Mary Beach of Morganton, and Mae Holsclaw of Lenoir.
The funeral will be conducted by the Rev. Robert B. Livingston at 2 p.m. Aug. 3, 2000, at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home.
Burial will be in Blue Ridge Memorial Park.
The family will be at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 tonight.

FRANCIS L. KING
TAYLORSVILLE - Francis “France” Luther King, 90, of Taylorsville, died July 30, 2000, in Davis Medical Center in Statesville.
Born Dec. 29, 1909, in Alexander County, he was a son of the late John W. and Ruth Clark Pierce King.
A member of Concord Baptist Church, he was a farmer and retired from Bassett Furniture in Newton.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Colman David King, Samuel Mitchell King, Vance King and Woodrow King; four half brothers, Grover King, Roscoe King, Noah King and Dewey King; a half sister, Leonia Pierce Overcash; and a grandson, Roger Sigmon.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Hestha Louisa Warren King; five daughters and sons-in-law, Wilda K. and Cecil Sigmon and Frances Lucy K. and John Lee Carrigan of Taylorsville, Jewel K. and James W. Pennell of Winston-Salem, Darlene K. and Gary T. Frye of Statesville, and Ellen K. and Charles Johnson of Stony Point; a sister, Ronie Mae King Sigmon of Stony Point; five grandchildren, Robin Greene of Hickory, Mark Albert Frye, Clark H. Frye and Gary Preston “Shorty” Frye of Statesville and Krystal Gayle Carrigan of Taylorsville; six great-grandchildren, Amanda Marie Sigmon and Gregory Andrew Sigmon of Taylorsville, Hailey Anita Frye, Courtney Paige Frye and Kendall Payton Frye of Statesville, and Hannah Caroline Greene of Hickory; and a number of nephews and nieces.
The funeral will be conducted by the Revs. Luther Moose and Gary Jennings at 3 p.m. today at Alexander Funeral Service.
Burial will be in Taylorsville City Cemetery.
Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers will be Gary T. Frye, Charles Johnson, John Lee Carrigan, Cecil Sigmon, James W. Pennell, Mark A. Frye, Clark H. Frye, Gary Preston Frye and Michael Anthony Greene.

WILBUR R. LOOKADOO
KINGSTREE, S.C. - Wilbur Ray Lookadoo, 78, died Aug. 1, 2000, at his residence.
Born in North Carolina, he was a son of the late Fred B. and Bessie Blanton Lookadoo.
A member of Kingstree United Methodist Church, he retired from Santee Electric Co-op and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Garnetta Moose Lookadoo of Kingstree; two sons, Gary Lookadoo of Summerville, and Steve Lookadoo of Conway; two brothers, Charles A. Lookadoo of Hickory, and Jimmy Lookadoo of Newton; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at Kingstree United Methodist Church.
Burial will be in Kingstree Memorial Gardens.
The family will be held at Williamsburg Funeral Home from 6 to 8 tonight.
Memorials may be made to Kingstree United Methodist Church.
