MARGIE P. RUSSELL

STONY POINT - Margie Price Russell, 85, of Third Avenue Drive, SE, died Aug. 11, 2000, at her residence after a period of declining health.
Born Aug. 18, 1914, in Alexander County, she was a daughter of the late Joe B. and Bettie Bostain Price.
A member of First Baptist Church in Taylorsville, she retired from Broyhill Furniture in Taylorsville.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Russell; a brother, Harold Price; and a sister, Evelina Bebber.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Margie D. and Mickey Mayberry of the home; two grandsons and granddaughters-in-law, Russell and Pam Mayberry of Hiddenite, and John and Sarah Mayberry of Taylorsville; four great-grandchildren, Taylor Elizabeth Mayberry, Rebecca Leann Mayberry, Jonathan Lawrence Mayberry and Christopher Lee Mayberry; and a number of nephews and nieces.
The funeral will be conducted by the Revs. Roger Underwood and Marion Powell at 11 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church in Taylorsville.
Burial will be in Taylorsville Cemetery.
The family will be at the church one hour prior to the service.
Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 405 West Main Ave., Taylorsville, N.C. 28681; or Hospice of Alexander county, 50 Lucy Eckerd Lane, Taylorsville, N.C. 28681.

MINNIE G. HOLDER

LENOIR - Minnie R. Gragg Holder, 94, of Greasy Creek Road, died Aug. 11, 2000, at Caldwell County Hospice.
Born May 11, 1906, in Lake County, Fla., she was a daughter of the late Samuel A. and Mary Holten Ritch.
A member of Confidence Advent Christian Church, she was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by a son, Raymond A. Gragg; two brothers, Archie Ritch and Charlie Ritch; two sisters, Lela Nail and Maude Holly.
Survivors include a son, Homer Gragg of Lenoir; a daughter, Evelyn L. Vanderlike of Ocala, Fla.; a sister, Bertha Green of Morganton; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
The funeral will be conducted by the Rev. Bobby Brock at 4 p.m. Monday at her church.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers will include members of her church.
The family will be at Pendry's Lenoir Funeral Home from 4 to 5:30 p.m. today.
Memorials may be made to Caldwell County Hospice, 902 Kirkwood St., Lenoir, N.C. 28645.

LILLIE P. EDMONDS

CONOVER - Lillie Price Emonds, 90, of Twelfth Avenue Drive, NE, died Aug. 11, 2000, at Catawba Valley Hospice House.
Born May 5, 1910, in Cowpen, S.C., she was a daughter of the late James M. and Luellen Gilland Price.
A member of North Newton Baptist Church, she was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Geter P. Edmonds; two sons, Charles P. Edmonds and Geter Junior Edmonds; and a number of brothers and sisters.
Survivors include three daughters and two sons-in-law, Neomi and Kermit Junior Hedrick of Hickory, Shirley Tallent of Charleston, S.C., and Dorothy and Bobby Benson of Newton; 13 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted by the Rev. Don Ferrell at 3 p.m. today at her church.
Burial will be in Eastview Cemetery.
The family will be at the church one hour prior to the service.

WALTER D. NORMAN

SPRUCE PINE - Walter Dale Norman, 33, of Oak Avenue, died Aug. 11, 2000, in Asheville.
Born in Catawba County, he was a son of Harold Norman of Spruce Pine, and Christine Sherrill of Valdese.
A member of Sullins Branch Baptist Church, he was a tree surgeon.
Survivors, in addition to his parents, include his wife, Gail Wiseman of Spruce Pine; a son, Cody Norman Ledford of the home; a daughter, Casey Norman Ledford of the home; a stepson, Chris Wiseman of the home; two stepdaughters, Crystal Wiseman and Cathy Wiseman of the home; a brother, Junior Norman of Hickory; two sisters, Debbie Norman and Mary Sue Norman of Valdese; a paternal grandmother, Edith Ollis of Spruce Pine; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be conducted by the Revs. Jack Jones and Billy Ledford at 2 p.m. Monday at Sullins Branch Baptist Church.
Burial will be in Sullins Branch Cemetery.
The family will be at Webb Funeral Home from 7 to 9 tonight.

BURL W. WARLICK

VALDESE - Burl Wilson “Judge” Warlick, 61, of Sunset Street in Lenoir, died Aug. 11, 2000, at Frye Regional Medical Center in Hickory after a period of declining health.
Born July 13, 1939, in Burke County, he was a son of Ruby Beach Warlick of Valdese, and the late Clifford Warlick.
Survivors, in addition to his mother, include his wife, Sylvia Rose Barr Warlick; five stepsons, Marshall Barr of Hildebran, James Barr of Hickory, and David Barr, Billy Barr and Robert Barr of Lenoir; a brother, Lewis C. Warlick of Hickory; three sisters, Mary Frances Carswell of Valdese, Nancy Cottrell of Lenoir, and Ann Kental of Morganton; and a number of nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be conducted by the Rev. James Lockee at 3 p.m. today at Heritage Funeral Service.
Burial will be in Burke Memorial Park.

HOYLE C. MILLER

Hoyle Cleveland Miller, 73, of Hickory, died Aug. 13, 2000, at Frye Regional Medical Center.
Born April 23, 1927, in Catawba County, he was a son of the late Cleveland E. and Hattie Bumgarner Miller.
He attended Pleasant Gardens Baptist Church in Marion, was co-owner of Hickory Upholstery Co., graduated from Lenoir-Rhyne College, and earned a master's degree in chemistry.
He was scoutmaster at First Presbyterian Church in Hickory, past president of the Hickory Exchange Club where he had 44 years of perfect attendance and was a member of the Hickory Moose Lodge, American Legion Post 48 and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Burlin Miller; and two sisters, Kathleen Hollar and Vera Chambers.
Survivors include a son, Gary Miller of Hickory; a daughter and son-in-law, Fran and Gary Clark of Hickory; a sister and brother-in-law, Frances and William Austin of Hickory; two grandchildren, Justin Clark and Emily Clark of Hickory; and friend, Velma Krause of Marion.
The funeral will be conducted by the Rev. John Setchfield at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Bass-Smith Funeral Home.
Burial will be private in Oakwood Cemetery.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Hickory Exchange Club.
The family will be at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.

MARTHA M. SMITH

MORGANTON - Martha Mae McDaniel Smith, 73, of U.S. 70 West, died Aug. 11, 2000, at her residence.
Born March 23, 1927, in Catawba County, she was a daughter of the late Adoluphus and Laura Maloney McDaniel.
She was a member of Faith Missionary Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Perry Smith; two brothers, John Henry McDaniel and Edward McDaniel; and a sister, Kathleen Costner.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Perry E. and Doris Smith of Lenoir; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Betty and Richard Boyd of Morganton, Brenda Williams of Glen Alpine, and Debra and Alan Banner of Rocky Mount; five grandchildren, Chris Boyd, Sharon Williams, Tracy Holland, Jina Shea Banner and Alisan Paige Banner; two step-grandchildren, Angela Smith and Laura Johnson; a great-grandson, Johnathon Mitchell; and a step-great-granddaughter, Victoria Smith.
The funeral will be conducted by the Revs. Marshall Dill and Clifford Early at 5 p.m. Tuesday at her church.
Burial will be in Salem United Methodist Church Cemetery.
The family will be at the church one hour prior to the service and at the residence at other times.

RUSSELL S. MELTON

LENOIR - Russell Samuel Melton, 90, of Pisgah Church Road, died Aug. 10, 2000, at Gateway Nursing Center.
Born June 26, 1910, in Wilkes County, he was a son of the late Henry O. and Sally Hudson Melton.
A member of Pisgah Baptist Church, he retired as a timber cutter.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Polly Shatley Melton; four brothers, Finley Melton, Woodrow Melton, John Melton and Clarence Melton; and a sister, Susan C. Benge.
Survivors include six daughters and five sons-in-law, Lois and Jack Crump, Faye and Stanley Townsend, Mary and Floyd Waters, Oralee M. Brakefield and Frances and Steven Reid of Lenoir, and Nancy and Ethridge Smith of Matthews; 17 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral was conducted Saturday.
Burial was in Pisgah Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were his grandsons.
Memorials may be made to Gideons International, P.O. Box 169, Lenoir, N.C. 28645; or Caldwell County Hospice, 902 Kirkwood St., NW, Lenoir, N.C. 28645.
Pendry's Lenoir Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

RAY E. HUFFMAN

Ray Ernest “Bud” Huffman, 71, of Fourteenth Avenue, NE, died Aug. 12, 2000, at Frye Regional Medical Center.
Born June 30, 1929, in Catawba County, he was a son of the late Raymond and Edna Raby Huffman.
A member of Unity Lutheran Church in Hickory, he retired from Shuford Mills as a truck driver.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Martha Walls.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Walters Huffman; two sons, Tony Huffman of Hickory and Scott Huffman of the home; four daughters, April Huffman and Robin Huffman of the home, Edna Lee Lail of Conover, and Dawn Hall of Hickory; four brothers, J.C. Huffman of Rural Hall, Clyde Huffman, Bob Huffman and Wade Huffman of Hickory; two sisters, Inez Watts of Connelly Springs, and Frances Cranford of Hickory; three grandchildren, Andy Huffman, Stephanie Thomas and Samantha Coffey of Conover; and five great-grandchildren, Audra Claypoole, Megan Claypoole, Brittany Coffey, Cristin Coffey and Tori Hall.
The funeral will be conducted by the Rev. Woodrow Frick at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Catawba Funeral Home.
Burial will be in Catawba Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Dennis Huffman, David Huffman, Richard Huffman, Maurice Huffman and Tommy Hall.
The family will be at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 tonight.

JOSEPH W. SUMLIN

MARION - Joseph William “Willie” Sumlin, 82, of Landis Lane, Dysartsville, died Aug. 12, 2000.
Born Feb. 7, 1918, in McDowell County, he was a son of the late Ed and Edna Washburn Sumlin.
A member of Dysartsville Baptist Church, where he served as deacon for many years, he retired from Broyhill Furniture in Marion.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Jay Sumlin and R.E. Sumlin; and a sister, Eula Sumlin.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Dorothy Rhom Sumlin; two sons and daughters-in-law, Gene and Gwen Sumlin of Dysartsville, and Roy and Pat Sumlin of Macedonia; a daughter and son-in-law, Frances and Ray Melton of Hickory; a brother, James Everette Sumlin of Dysartsville; five sisters, Janie Burnette of North Cove, Ruby Rhom of Marion, Gladys Patterson of Dysartsville, Mary Childers of Pleasant Gardens, and Shirley Sorrells of Forest City; four grandchildren, Tina Sumlin, Richard Sumlin, Vanessa Sumlin and Ben Melton; friends, Mildred Lawing and Virginia Rumfelt of Marion; and a number of nephews and nieces.
The funeral will be conducted by the Revs. T.B. Deese, Phillip McCall and Walker Toney at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Westmoreland Funeral Home.
Burial will be in Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will be at the funeral home from 6 to 8 tonight.
