Ms. Katherine Greenwood, 55, of Oak Island

Ms. Katherine Theresa Greenwood, 55, of Oak Island, died Monday, May 28, 2001, at Dosher Memorial Hospital in Southport.
Ms. Greenwood was born January 6, 1946, to the late Dr. William A. Rose and Marion Dorothy Monahan in Twenty Nine Palms, Calif.
She moved in 1995 to Oak Island, where she was a realtor with Coldwell Banker.
Ms. Greenwood was graduated from Ramona Convent of Holy Names in Alhambra, Calif., in 1963.
She was a former member of the San Fernando Valley Board of Realtors and a current member of the North Carolina Board of Realtors.
Survivors include her three children, Christine M. Setaro of Los Angeles, Calif., Jeffrey W. Symington of San Diego, Calif., and Frank J. Setaro, II and wife, Diana of Oak Island.
Sisters include Patricia LeBrun of Las Vegas, Nev., and Liz Weatherwax and husband, Geoff of Southport.
Grandchildren include Melissa Rice, Megan Rice and Madison Katherine Setaro.
Nephews include Geoffrey Weatherwax and godson Gregory Weatherwax.
A memorial service will be held Friday at 6 p.m. oceanside, at 25th Place East in Oak Island, with the Rev. Ray Webb officiating.
This will be an informal gathering with well-wishers congregating after the service, at the Tiki Hut, at the small boat harbor in Southport.
In lieu of flowers, Ms. Greenwood requested that donations be made in her memory to Dosher Memorial Hospital, 924 North Howe Street, Southport, NC 28461.
The family also expressed gratitude to Dr. Ameen and others involved in her care.

Mrs. Alice Griffin, 50, of Oak Island

Mrs. Alice Green Reynolds Griffin, 50, of Oak Island, died Sunday, May 27, 2001, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
A memorial service was conducted at 2 p.m. today (Wednesday) at First Baptist Church of Oak Island.
Mrs. Griffin was born February 2, 1951, in Vinton, Va., a daughter of the late Moroni C. and Louise Reynolds Green, and moved here in 1980 from Greensboro. She was a graduate of William Byrd High School in Vinton, Va., attended Brigham Young University and was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Mrs. Griffin was a writer of children’s stories and fantasy stories.
Survivors include her husband of 19 years, Dan Griffin of the home; two step-sons, Steven Kivett of Florida and Forest Griffin of Athens, Ga.; a sister, Betty Gresham of Montvale, Va.; and one grandchild.

Robert Edward Wilson, Sr., 66, of Southport

Robert Edward Wilson, Sr., 66, of Southport, died Tuesday, May 29, 2001, at Dosher Memorial Hospital.
A memorial service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, at Peacock-Newnam Funeral Chapel. Interment will be at a later date in Palmyra, N. Y.
Wilson was born January 7, 1935, in Elmira, N. Y., son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Chester Wilson, and moved here from Wilmington in 1993. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and a retired automobile service technician.
Survivors include his son, Robert E. Wilson, Jr. of Southport; a daughter, Gwen Elizabeth Wilson of Wilmington; a sister, Ruth Thornton of Rochester, N.Y.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home immediately following the memorial service.

Kenneth L. Bratt, Sr., 90, of Derry, N.H.

Kenneth L. Bratt, Sr., 90, of Derry, N.H., formerly of Brunswick County, died October 10, 2001, at Parkland Medical Center.
Bratt was born in Boston, Mass., son of the late Ernest C. L. and Emma F. (Linnell) Bratt. He was reared in Milton, Mass., until he joined the service in 1939. He served through World War II, being honorably discharged from the U. S. Army in 1944.
Prior to retirement, he and his wife Grace ran poultry farms in New Hampshire, for 21 years. They also lived in North Carolina for 20 years and in Pennsylvania for several years before he moved to Derry a few years ago. He was a lifelong member of the Society of the 1st Infantry Division and Disabled American Veterans.
He was the husband of the late Grace (Aldrich) Bratt for 55 years, and was father of Kenneth L. Bratt, Jr. of Derry, N.H., Richard F. Bratt of Mililani, Hawaii, Susan L. Smeltzer of Daytona, Fla., and the late Janice Querci. He was the brother of Audrey Nordley of Southport and Florence Fenstermacher of Melbourne, Fla.; brother-in-law of John Aldrich of Quincy, Mass.; grandfather of Ethan, Emily, Aaron and Jordan Bratt, Kevin and Katherine Grace Bratt, Gina, Edward and Michael Querci, and the late Christian and Cody Bratt; great-grandfather of Vincent, Nicholas and Tyler Querci, Derek Duchemin and the late Giana Marie Duchemin.
Funeral services were held at the Blackington, Conroy and Hayes Funeral Home on Monday, followed by interment at Milton Cemetery, Milton, Mass.
Memorial donations in his name may be made to the National WWII Veterans Memorial, 2300 Clarendon Blvd., Suite 501, Arlington, VA 22201.

Romaine Elizabeth Pashley of Oak Island

Romaine Elizabeth Pashley of Oak Island, died October 9, 2001, at Dosher Memorial Hospital.
She was born in 1905 in Carlisle, Pa., and moved to Atlantic City, N.J., where she met and married William Lowry Pashley in 1927. She was a longtime resident of Beesley’s Point, N. J., where she was an active member of the Trinity United Methodist Church of Marmora, N. J.
She is survived by her sisters, Katherine Burness of Northfield, N. J., Joy Hatfield of Myrtle Beach, S. C., and Alice Black of Carlisle, Pa.; her daughter, Florence Margaret Roberts of Oak Island; her grandchildren, Nancy Stark of Roanoke, Va., Sharon Boyle of Dumfries, Va., and Brian McKittrick of New Vernon, N. J.; and great-grandchildren Brian, Emily, Katherine, Michael, Valerie, Daniel and Andrew.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be sent to Trinity United Methodist Church in Southport or Hospice of Wilmington. A memorial service will be held at the Head of the River Church in Tuckahoe, N. J., in December.

Charles Henry Rogers, Southport civic leader

Funeral services for Charles Henry Rogers will be held Friday at 2:30 p.m. at Friendship Baptist Church in Southport, with interment following at John H. Smith Cemetery.
Rogers, the eldest son of Jesse and Lucille Brown Rogers of Southport, died Saturday, January 26, 2002. He was a member of the International Longshoreman’s Union #1838 for 45 years, a community leader and civil rights activist. He was one of the organizers of Longshoreman’s Union 1838 in 1955. He served as its first president for 18 years and president of International Longshoreman’s Union #1968 for 45 years.
He served as a member of the Dosher Memorial Hospital Board of Trustees, the American Legion Bellamy-Joyner Post 213 and the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. In 1962, he organized the youth branch of the NAACP of Southport that helped to successfully integrate public businesses and organizations in Southport. He was instrumental in taking members of the youth branch to the 1963 March On Washington.
He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church, where he served on the Senior Usher Board.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Ludelphia Bellamy-Rogers; a daughter, Gloria Cathleen Joyner; a granddaughter, Shaunte Joyner; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Sadie Jackson of East Orange, N. J.; two foster children, Bertha Bryant Roberts and the Rev. Alcindor Hankins.

Rupert Riley, 80, Oak Island resident

Rupert Riley, 80, of Oak Island died unexpectedly Friday, January 25, 2002, in Scottsdale, Ariz., while on vacation.
He was born July 21, 1921, in Raleigh and was a graduate of North Carolina State University. He was an Army officer during World War II and served in North Africa, Sicily, Italy, France and Germany. He had a successful career spanning 45 years as a sales executive in the textile machinery industry. After retiring to Oak Island in 1992, he was active in local issues and causes.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Perry Riley; a daughter, Lynne R. Bowden of Boston, Mass.; a son, Andy of Charlotte; four grandsons.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Senior Citizens Center of Oak Island.
A reception celebrating his life will be held at Oak Island Recreation Center from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday.

Mrs. Grace Anderson, 80, Lakes resident

Mrs. Grace Evelyn Autry Anderson, 80, of Boiling Spring Lakes died Wednesday, January 23, 2002, at Ocean Trail Convalescent Center.
A graveside service was conducted Friday at Wilmington National Cemetery with the Rev. Jeffrey Johnson officiating.
Mrs. Anderson was born June 19, 1921, in Wilmington, daughter of the late George and Rebecca Smith Autry, and was a lifelong resident of Southport.
She was retired child support enforcement agent with Brunswick County, a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, a member of VFW Auxiliary, a life member of DAV Auxiliary, a member of Southport Baptist Church and attended William & Mary College.
She was the widow of Cecil M. Anderson and also was preceded in death by a grandson, Michael Cummings.
Survivors include a son, William David Anderson and wife Iris of DeLand, Fla.; a daughter, Mrs. Rebecca Anderson Cummings and husband Dale of Boiling Spring Lakes; a brother, Clifton Boyce Spencer and wife Deloris of Southport; four grandchildren, Natalie Marie, Tara Grace, Brittany Faith and Rebecca Michelle; and a great-granddaughter, Myla Annette.
Memorial contributions may be made to the organization of the donor’s choice.

Vivian Victoria McCulloch service held

Mrs. Vivian Victoria McCulloch, 68, of North Myrtle Beach, S. C., died Sunday, January 27, 2002, at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center, Myrtle Beach.
The funeral mass was celebrated at Our Lady of Czenstochowa Catholic Church, Brooklyn, N.Y., with interment following in Greenwood Cemetery.
Mrs. McCulloch was born April 20, 1933, in Brooklyn, daughter of the late Charles and Angela Menza Morano, and moved to North Myrtle Beach in 1993.
She was a retired computer typesetter, a member of Carolina Italian American Organization (CIAO), and was a former parishioner of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Brooklyn.
Survivors include her husband of 49 years, George McCulloch of the home; a daughter, Angela McCulloch of Coral. Springs, Fla.; two sons, William McCulloch and wife Elizabeth of Howell, N.J., and Robert McCulloch and wife Mary of Boiling Spring Lakes; four grandchildren, Christi Ann and Jon Michael McCulloch and Richard and Matthew Pawlewicz.
Memorial contributions may be made to the organization of the donor’s choice.

William Rhydell Sellers, 78, of Live Oak, Fla.

William Rhydell Sellers, 78, died Monday, January 28, 2002, at his home in Live Oak, Fla.
Sellers was born June 2, 1923, in Southport.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was employed by Atlantic Coast Line Railroad in Wilmington.
He transferred to Jacksonville, Fla., in 1960, and retired from CSX in 1983.
Family members include his wife of 56 years, Ruby; a son, William Rhydell Sellers, Jr. and wife Roberta; two daughters, Linda Dougherty and Susan Fisher and husband Ron; two sisters, Susan Carson of Southport and Thelma Dunn of Boiling Spring Lakes; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
His life will be celebrated with Mass on Friday at 11 a.m., in the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Live Oak, Fla.
A Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Thursday, at Daniels Funeral Home, Live Oak, Fla.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Francis Xavier Mortgage Fund or Hospice of North Central Florida, 4200 NW 90th Boulevard, Gainesville, FL 32606.
Daniels Funeral Home of Live Oak, is in charge of all arrangements.
