Berris Jr. Duncan, 70, of Southport, died Sunday, January 27, 2002, at his residence.
The graveside service was conducted at 11 a.m. today (Wednesday), at Northwood Cemetery, with Dr. Wayne Adkisson officiating.
Serving as pallbearers were Ken Conley, Dowan Matthews, Lou Troegner, Jimmy Evans, Jim Altman and Bill Ross.
Duncan was born September 30, 1931, in Loris, S.C., a son of the late Luther and Hannah Stalvey Duncan, and moved to Southport, from Hartsville, S.C., 31 years ago.
He lived most of his married life in High Point, and in 1985, opened INA Oil Company in Southport, which he operated until retirement in 1995.
He was a member of Oak Island Moose Lodge and was of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by a son, Mitchell Wayne Duncan, and is survived by his wife of 51 years, Ina Morris Duncan of the home; a son, Barry Duncan of St. John, U.S. Virgin Islands; four daughters, Janice Duncan Thompson of Oak Island, Carol Duncan Isenberg of Southport, Patty Duncan of Jupiter, Fla., and Sandra Duncan Padgett of Southport; two brothers, Ivey C. Duncan of Leland and Warren Duncan of Lexington; three sisters, Geneva Cannon of Renick, W. Va., Juanita Strickland of Fair Bluff, and Alice Duncan of Tabor City; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.

W. Carl McSwain, 93, of Thomasville
W. Carl McSwain, 93, of Thomasville, died Sunday, January 27, 2001, at Thomasville Medical Center.
He was born in Norwood, to the late Joe Hamilton and Mamie Thompson McSwain and had lived in Thomasville, for over 70 years.
He was retired from the procurement department of Thomasville Furniture Industries.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Thomasville.
He was preceded in death last February, by his wife, Ruth Everhart McSwain, to whom he was married for nearly 70 years.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Bett McSwain Rogers of Oak Island; a son, Larry McSwain of High Point; a sister, Miss Aileen McSwain of Albemarle; one grandson.
Graveside funeral services were held today (Wednesday) at 11 a.m., at Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery, with the Rev. Robert Hann officiating.

Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Loftus, 91, of Southport
Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Loftus, 91, of Southport, died Wednesday, December 26, 2001, at Ocean Trail Nursing Center.
A memorial service was conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday, at Peacock-Newnam Chapel, with the Rev. Lloyd Pendergraft officiating.
Mrs. Loftus was born January 8, 1910, in Olean, N.Y., daughter of the late Ellery and Eva Turner Lathrop, and moved to Southport, in 1994.
Mrs. Loftus, a Methodist, was a former member of the garden club and woman’s club, both of Lakewood, N.Y., and was a longtime volunteer at the W.C.A. Hospital in Jamestown, N.Y.
Mrs. Loftus was predeceased by her husband, Edward P. Loftus.
Survivors include two daughters, Patricia Loftus Campbell of Southport, and Carol Ann Kane of Derry, N.H.; a son, William E. Loftus of Jamestown, N.Y.
Also surviving are eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Lucille Richardson Mauney, 82, of Fayetteville, died Monday, December 24, 2001, at Highsmith-Rainey Memorial Hospital in Fayetteville.
A memorial service was held Friday, at Jackson Springs Presbyterian Church, with burial in the church cemetery.
Born in Sampson County, to the late Oscar S. and Nolia Autry Richardson, she was the wife of the late Lee Mauney, and worked at Collins Department Store in Aberdeen.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Fayetteville.
She is survived by sons, Charles Mauney and Daniel Mauney, both of Fayetteville, and Gary Mauney of Hartsville, S.C.; brothers, Oscar S. Richardson, Jr. of Jackson Springs, Gordon Richardson of Carthage, the Rev. Leland Richardson of Mocksville, and Bill Richardson of Southport; a sister, Eva R. Kelly of Mocksville; three grandchildren.

Guy McNeill, Jr., 58, of West End, died Sunday, December 30, 2001, at his home.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, at West End Baptist Church, with the Rev. Bryson Bigsby and the Rev. Robbie Gibson officiating.
Burial followed in West End Cemetery.
Born in Montgomery County, he was graduated from West End High School and retired from Diamondhead Corp. of Pinehurst.
He was a member of the North Carolina 252nd Armored Division, Company C, National Guard in Southern Pines.
He is survived by his wife, Jennie Garrison McNeill; a son, Monty G. McNeill of Wilmington; a daughter, Crystal C. McNeill of Southport; his mother, Virgie Mae McNeill of Asheboro; a brother, Bobby A. McNeill of Charlotte; a sister, Peggy McNeill Roller of Castle Hayne; his maternal grandmother, Minnie Campbell Saunders of West End; two step-sons, Darrell K. Mabe of Rockingham, and Rodney D. Mabe of Jackson Springs; a step-daughter, Wendy Ann Ivey of Southport.

Mrs. Louise S. Dawley of Oak Island, died Saturday, December 29, 2001, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice Care Center in Wilmington.
A memorial service will be conducted at 7 p.m. Friday at Peacock-Newnam Chapel.
Mrs. Dawley was born in Roanoke, Va., daughter of the late Alphonse and Tina Mae Huntsinger Stultz. After marrying her husband, Earl Dawley, she moved about the country and visited various parts of the world, finally moving to Oak Island.
One of her passions was her flower garden.
She was a former member of Peace Haven Baptist Church in Winston-Salem, and was a volunteer with the Winston-Salem Humane Society.
Survivors include her husband, Earl Dawley, of the home; two sons, Thomas Earl Dawley and wife Melissa of Liberty and Thomas Gardner of Westminster, Colo.; two sisters, Inez Hunt and husband, Claude of High Point, and Hazel Yurich and husband, Joe of Eden; two grandchildren, Brandon and Brittney Dawley, both of Liberty.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Georgia Mae Tuttle.

Mrs. Bowen and her husband Jim made Oak Island, their home 45 years ago, and were charter members of First Baptist Church of Oak Island.
She is survived by her children, Beverly and husband, Byron B. Bey of Oak Island, P. Rex Bowen of Hood River, Oregon, Jeffrey K. Bowen of Wilmington and Dawn and husband, Neil A. Worden, Jr. of Boiling Spring Lakes; her grandchildren, Trevor and Tara Worden; her mother, Ruth S. Champion; her brother, Jimmy R. Champion.
She was predeceased by her husband, James A. Bowen; her father, Eber L. Champion; a brother, Lamar G. Champion; a sister, Nancy Champion.

Eugene Louis Fuss, 78, of Bolivia, died Monday, December 31, 2001, at Dosher Memorial Hospital.

Graveside service will be at a later date at Kensico Cemetery, Valhalla, N.Y.
Fuss was born August 17, 1923, in St. Albans, N.Y., son of the late Eugene and Mary Fuss, and moved to Bald Head Island, from Minneapolis, Minn., in 1985.
A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, he was a graduate of Columbia University.
For many years, he worked as an electrical engineer with A.D.T. Security Systems in New York City, and retired from Honeywell Corporation in Minneapolis.
An avid fisherman, he was a former member of the Bald Head Island Volunteer Fire Department and was of the Lutheran faith.
Survivors include his wife, Clara Reid Fuss of the home; a son, Eugene L. Fuss, II of Plum City, Wisc.; a grandson, Jaime Fuss.
The family will receive friends at Peacock-Newnam Funeral Home from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday.

Mrs. Hauber was born February 10, 1952, in Westchester County, N.Y., daughter of Jorge Senosiain and the late Una Britt Christina Olson, and moved to St. James in 1994.
