Mrs. Lillian M. Sears of Raleigh
Mrs. Lillian M. Sears died Tuesday, January 8, 2002, in Raleigh.
Born in New York, N.Y., she moved to Raleigh, with her husband, Woodrow H. Sears in 1936.
She retired to Yaupon Beach, for ten years, before returning to Raleigh, in 1999.
She is survived by a son, Dr. Woodrow H. Sears, Jr. and wife, Ronia of Lithuania; daughters, Ginny Sears Byrd and husband, Jim Byrd of Raleigh, and Amy Barfield and husband, Bobby Barfield of Wilson; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held Friday, at the Church of the Good Shepherd.
Inurnment graveside rites followed at Raleigh Memorial Park.

Elizabeth O. Toney, 83, of Hurricane, W. Va., formerly of Boiling Spring Lakes, died December 18, 2001, after a lengthy illness.
Graveside services were held Saturday, January 12, at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Wilmington.

Esther Mae Potter Willetts, 82, of Winnabow, died Wednesday, September 25, 2002, at Dosher Memorial Hospital.
Born in Key West, Fla., on February 4, 1920, she was a daughter of the late John F. and Una Knowles Potter.
She was a teacher with Brunswick County Schools for 19 years.
Mrs. Willetts was a longtime member of Mill Creek Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school for 50 years, and was a member of the choir.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Britt Willetts, Sr.; her daughter, Barbara W. Lancaster; and four brothers, Monroe, John, Franklin and Bryant Potter.
Survivors include two sons, Joseph Britt Willetts, Jr. and wife, Donna of Castle Hayne, Michael Willetts and wife, Janine of Winnabow; a sister, Marjorie Livingston of Winnabow; a brother, Ralph Potter of Southport; three grandchildren, David Lancaster and wife, Tiffany, Jason Britt Willetts, Jenny L. Todd and husband, Curtis; four great-grandchildren, Morgan Todd, Curtis Todd, Jr., Zachary Lancaster and Ben Lancaster.
Funeral services were conducted Friday, September 27, at Mill Creek Baptist Church by the Rev. Mark Rogers.
Interment followed in the Willetts Cemetery.

Dr. Patricia Ann Davis Hewett, 46, of Bolivia
Dr. Patricia Ann Davis Hewett, 46, of Bolivia, died suddenly at her home, Monday, September 23, 2002.
She was born January 25, 1956, in Camp Pendleton, Calif., and was the daughter of Agnes Davis of Jacksonville, and the late Robert A. Davis.
She was a graduate of White Oak High School, Jacksonville, and Logan Chiropractic College, St. Louis, Mo.
Survivors, in addition to her mother, include her husband, Tom Hewett; two sons, Anthony Hewett and wife, Lorie and Kelly Hewett; two grandsons, Brandon Hewett and Garrett Hewett; two brothers, the Rev. Thomas Davis of Jacksonville, and Michael Davis of Oxford; a sister, Susan Bryant of Raleigh.
A funeral mass was celebrated Friday, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Southport, with the Rev. Thomas Davis officiating.
Burial followed in Zion Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.
Sallie Powell Swain, 66, of Sunset Harbor
Mrs. Sallie Powell Swain, 66, of the Sunset Harbor community died Wednesday, September 25, 2002, at Brunswick Community Hospital.
The funeral was conducted Saturday, at First Baptist Church of Sunset Harbor, with the Rev. Anthony Clemmons and the Rev. James Whitworth officiating.
A graveside service followed at Lake Waccamaw Cemetery, Lake Waccamaw.
Mrs. Swain was born May 8, 1936, in Columbus County, and had lived in the Sunset Harbor community for ten years.
She was a member of Bolton Baptist Church, Brunswick County Fishing Club and attended First Baptist Church of Sunset Harbor.
Survivors include her husband of 41 years, F. Herbert Swain of the home; two sons, William Robert and Brian Keith Swain, both of Bolton; a sister, Bonnie Burney Brown of Delco; a brother, Richard (Buster) Powell of Tabor City; grandchildren Jessica Leanne Swain, Robin Nicole Swain, Megan Dawn Roy and Alexis Blair Swain; step-grandchildren Shannon Hiott and Joshua Dudney.

Timothy Allen Maggard, 42, of Sumter, S.C.
Timothy Allen Maggard, 42, of Sumter, S.C., died Thursday, September 26, 2002, in Wedgefield.
He was born in Southport, a son of Diane Stidham Clark and the late Robert Donald Maggard.
He was a senior master sergeant with 21 years service in the U.S. Air Force.
He was a member of Wedgefield Baptist Church and was chairman of deacons, treasurer of the church and mission leader.
Surviving are his wife of 20 years, Millie Maggard, and his mother of Southport; stepfather, Justin Clark of Southport; a son, Justin Layne Maggard of Sumter; a daughter, Jessica Nichole Maggard of Sumter; a brother, Robert Maggard of Southport; two sisters, Julie Edge and Christy Clark, both of Southport.
Funeral services were held Sunday at Wedgefield Baptist Church, with the Rev. Darryl Davids and the Rev. B.J. Drayton officiating.
Burial with full military honors followed at Wedgefield Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Loraine Guy Smith, 86, of Oak Island, died Friday, September 27, 2002, at Dosher Memorial Hospital.
The memorial service was conducted Monday, at Oak Island Presbyterian Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Michael Ward officiating.
Mrs. Smith was born June 1, 1916, in Hampton, Va., daughter of the late Richard and Vergie Guy, and moved to Oak Island, in 1982 from Eden.
A member of the garden club, she was an original developer of the flower bed at the intersection of Yaupon Drive and Country Club Drive.
Survivors include her husband of 58 years, James A. Smith, Jr. of the home; a daughter, Brenda S. Hawkins and husband, Allen of Birmingham, Ala.; a son, Allen Smith of Little River, S.C.; two grandchildren, Amanda Haywood and Allen Hawkins, III; and two great-grandchildren, Mary Catherine and Jonathan Haywood.

Mrs. Cora Agnes Hedrick, 78, of Bolivia, died Monday, September 30, 2002, at Ocean Trail Nursing Center.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, at Peacock-Newnam Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Leroy Martin officiating.
Interment will follow in Cape Fear Memorial Park.
Serving as pallbearers will be Kerry Martin, Kevin Martin, Harold Leviner, Mike Hamrick, Grover Hewett and Jack Perkins.
Mrs. Hedrick was born June 7, 1924, in Bartlesville, Okla., a daughter of the late William Duet and Cora Mae Powell Perkins.
She was the widow of Victor Eugene Hedrick and also was preceded in death by brothers, Earl Charles Perkins and William Leroy Perkins, and sisters, Betty Perkins and Nancy Medillian.
Survivors include a daughter, Mary Jane Leviner of Winnabow; three sons, William Lee Perkins and wife, Barbara of Detroit, Mich., and James Buren Kirkendoll and Kenneth Eugene Hedrick, both of Sunset Harbor; a brother, Russell J. Perkins of Texas; two sisters, Lola Meliran Moncicwojewski and Autry Gene Goosby, both of Texas; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at Peacock-Newnam Funeral Home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today (Wednesday), and at other times, will be at the home of a granddaughter, Karen Martin, at Winnabow.
