MORGANTON - Linda Kay Minton, 46, died Sept. 28, 2001.
Survivors include a daughter, Christy Minton of Hickory, five brothers and five sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. today, at Sossoman's Colonial Chapel.

VALDESE - Hazel Jacumin Brown, 78, of Hauss Ridge Road, died Sunday, Sept. 30, 2001, at Valdese General Hospital following a brief illness.
Born May 4, 1923, in Burke County, she was a daughter of the late Levi Alexander Jacumin and Martha Bennett Jacumin.
She was a member of High Peak Baptist Church and a former employee of Drexel Furniture Company.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Elworth Brown, and a stepson, William Brown.
Surviving are a son, Danny O. Mull and wife, Lucy, of Dallas, N.C.; daughters, Rachel Shuford and Shirlene Huggins and husband, Jimmy, all of Valdese, and Cathy Costner and husband, Bill, of Glen Alpine; sisters, Vivan Erwin and Lena Ogle, both of Valdese; a stepson, Eugene Brown of Lincolnton; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home, with the Rev. Leonard Lindsey officiating.
Burial will follow at Burke Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends today from 6 until 7:30 p.m., at the funeral home.

Pansy Ruth Walker
LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Pansy Ruth Walker, 55, of 3820 St. Road 28 E., died Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2001, at St. Vincent's Hospital in Indianapolis, after an extended illness.
Born Oct. 30, 1945, in Marion, she had lived in Lafayette, for the past 33 years.
She married Winford W. Walker, Aug. 28, 1972, in Jellico, Tenn., and he survives.
She was a homemaker and also was a member of Christ Memorial Temple.
She enjoyed gardening, sewing and raising a large family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, a brother and a sister.
Surviving, in addition to her husband, are sons, Jason Walker, Michael Walker and his wife, April, Fred Walker and his wife, Vickie, all of Lafayette, and Kenneth Walker and his wife, Julia, of North Carolina; daughters, Pamela Walker of Lafayette, Debbie Harrison and her husband, Frank, and Cathy West and her husband, Lenny, both of North Carolina; sisters, Margie Gibbs and her husband, Roby, Irene Cain, Rosie William, and Nellie Randolph and her husband, Billy, all of North Carolina, and Violet Burdett of South Carolina; 18 grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, at Christ Memorial Temple, with the Revs. Raymond E. Parnell and Anthony E. Carson officiating.
Burial will be at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens in W. Lafayette, Ind.
The family will receive friends from 4 until 8 p.m. today, at Hippensteel Funeral Home.

VALDESE - Ralph Edwards, 69, of Lakeview Acres, died Saturday, Oct. 6, 2001.
Born in Yancey County, he was a son of the late Joe Edwards and Texie Hensley Edwards.
He was retired from the Town of Valdese, having worked at the Water Department.
Surviving are his wife, Fannie Hoilman Edwards; sons, Roger Dale Edwards and his wife, Brenda, of Valdese, and Ralph Dewayne Edwards and his wife, Mary, of Morganton; daughter, Teresa Rene Edwards Keel and her husband, David, of Valdese; brother, Hobert Edwards of Valdese; sisters, Katherine Duckworth of Morganton, Ola Faye McAmis of Cleveland, Ohio, Mary Jo Wyatt and Chloe Edwards, both of Valdese, and Bonnie Edwards of Morganton; grandchildren, Rebecca Edwards, Chris Edwards, Sr. and his wife, Leslie, Wesley Edwards, and Brandon Phillips; and great-grandchildren, Devin Spake, Chris Edwards, Jr., and Savannah Edwards.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, at Calvary Baptist Church, with the Rev. Leonard Lindsey officiating.
Interment will follow at Calvary Memorial Gardens.

MORGANTON - Fern Harris Prestwood, 92, of South Matthews Street, died Saturday, Oct. 6, 2001, at Grace Heights following a brief illness.
Born Jan. 18, 1909, in Burke County, she was a daughter of the late Robert G. and Anna Setzer Harris.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Fletcher Prestwood; a brother, Frank Harris; and a sister, Pearl Weatherford.
Surviving are a daughter, Sybil Barrier, with whom she made her home; grandsons and their wives, Michael and Patti Barrier, Timothy and Trina Barrier, and Jeffrey and Angie Barrier, all of Morganton; and four great-granddaughters.
The funeral will be held at 4 p.m. today, in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home, with the Revs. Thomas Stinson-Wesley and James Taber officiating.
Burial will follow at Burke Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 3 until 4 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Wilhelmina Shytle
CONNELLY SPRINGS - Wilhelmina Wilson Shytle, 82, of Woodlawn Drive, died Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2001, at her residence following a brief illness.
Mrs. Shytle was born June 2, 1919, in Burke County, to the late Self and Essie Wilson.
As a young girl, she worked in the Hickory candy factory and made gliders during World War II.
She retired as a spinner at Valdese Manufacturing and was a member of Connelly Springs First Baptist Church.
Survivors include: her husband, Winfred Hugh Shytle of the home; daughters, Sharon Mise of Columbia, S.C., Renae Brame of Black Mountain, and Celeste Tolbert of Grand Rapids, Mich.; a son, Gary Shytle of Valdese; sisters, JoAnn Causby of Valdese, Margaret Graham of Naples, Fla., and Mary Lee Heavner of Morganton; brothers, Clifford Wilson of Connelly Springs, Harold Wilson, Iris Lindbergh Wilson and Steve Wilson, all of Icard; grandchildren, Angela Berry, Susan Trivette, Sarah Tolbert, Stephanie Tolbert, Johnny Wilson, James Wilson, Jerald Shytle and Nicholas Tolbert; and great-grandchildren, Katie Trivette and Joey Trivette.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, in the Chapel of Heritage Funeral Service in Valdese.
Officiating will be the Rev. Steven Matthews and Rev. Terry Ritchie.
Interment will follow at Burke Memorial Park.
