Delia Wilkins
MORGANTON - Delia Irene Kincaid Wilkins, 79, of 107 Magnolia Dr., died Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2001, at Grace Hospital following an extended illness.
Born Sept. 25, 1922, in Burke County, she was a daughter of the late Carson Kincaid and Beulah Bradshaw Kincaid.
She was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church and a member of the Senior Mission Department.
She worked for 23 years at Valdese Weavers Inc., as an inspector.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, James L. Wilkins; brothers, Robert Kincaid, Melvin Kincaid, and Phillip Kincaid; and sisters, Fannie K. Conley, Marie K. Connelly, Willie Mae K. Ellis, and Josephine K. Johnson.
Surviving are a son, William "Bill" Wilkins and his wife, Robin, of Morganton; brothers, Ned Kincaid and wife, Rebecca, of Spindale, and Allen Kincaid and his wife, Barbara, of Morganton; a sister, Ophelia E. Kincaid of Morganton; grandsons, Gerald L. Wilkins and his wife, Paula, of Glen Alpine, William Wilkins, II and Ryan Kincaid, both of Morganton; a granddaughter, Tina Caldwell of Charlotte; a great-grandson, Jerrian Wilkins of Glen Alpine; great-granddaughters, Olana Wilkins of Glen Alpine and Taylor Steele of Charlotte; sisters-in-law, Mary McKesson and Edna Moore, both of Morganton; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, with the Revs. Kenneth Falls and Frances Tate officiating.
Burial will be a private affair at the Bristol Family Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 1 until 1:55 p.m. Friday, at the church.
At other times, the family will be at the home of her sister-in-law, Edna (Reece) Moore, 1857 Zion Road, Morganton.

Lovie Ann Hayden
MORGANTON - Lovie Ann Hayden, 88, formerly of 210 Eastview St., died Monday, Oct. 8, 2001, at a local hospital following an extended illness.
Born Oct. 20, 1913, in Burke County, she was a daughter of the late Lemon H. Hayden and Josephine Moore Hayden.
She was a member of the Gaston Chapel AME Church and was a charter member of the L.O. Gospel Choir.
She was also a member of the Ladies Usher Board, Pastor Aide Club and Lay Organization.
She worked for 20 years at Western Carolina Center in the dietary department.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Leroy W. Hayden; and a brother, Joseph F. Hayden.
Surviving are a son, James M. Hayden and his wife, Vanessa L., of Morganton; a sister, Leola Hayden Wilkerson of Morganton; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.
The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Gaston Chapel AME Church with the Revs. Ronald J. Knight, John H. Cantrell, Herbert Carter, Frances Tate and Jas Hemby.
Burial will be in Burke Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7 until 8 p.m. Friday, in the Fleming Memorial Chapel at Ebony Funeral Services in Morganton.

Fred Mullinax
GRANITE FALLS - Fred Morgan Mullinax, 82, of the Camelot Manor Nursing Care Facility and formerly of Morganton, died Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2001, at the nursing home following an extended illness.
Born May 19, 1919, in Gaston County, he was a son of the late Alonzo and Sally Culbertson Mullinax.
He was a member of the Baptist faith.
He was a loving father, grandfather, brother and friend, and his handshake will be missed greatly by everyone who knew him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen Scism Mullinax; a son-in-law, Danny Mosteller; brothers, Lee, Carl, and Bill Mullinax; and sisters, Bessie Barrett and Ethel Bridges.
Surviving are a son, Tommy Mullinax and his wife, Kathy, of Lincolnton, N.C.; daughters, Linda Smith and her husband, Ted, of Granite Falls, Joyce Williams and husband, Rodney, of Hudson, and Frankie Mosteller of Claremont; 10 grandchildren; eight great-granddaughters and many loved nieces and nephews.
His first great-grandson will be born in December.
The funeral will be held at 3:30 p.m. Friday, in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home, with the Revs. Gary Garner, Randy Gibson and Freddie Davis officiating.
Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 2 until 3:30 p.m. Friday, at the funeral home.

Homer G. Woods
MORGANTON - Homer G. Woods, 68, of Lenoir Road, died Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2001, at Catawba Memorial Hospital in Hickory, following a period of declining health.
Born April 11, 1933, in Lauderdale County, Ala., he was a son of the late Johnny T. Woods and Mattie Wesson Woods.
He was a U.S. Army veteran and was employed for many years as a fireman with the City of Morganton.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Earl Woods and a sister, Eunice Baskins.
Surviving are daughters and sons-in-law, Terry and David Ward of Houston, Texas, and Carol and Jeff Childres of Newton; brothers, James Woods and Charles Woods, both of Alabama, and Gene Woods and J.B. Woods, both of Indiana; sisters, Virginia Patterson, Ruby Young, Frances Briggs, Betty Stanfield and Lois Dempsey, all of Alabama; and granddaughters, Brandie Childres and Randie Childres.
The funeral will be held 1 p.m. Friday, in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home, with the Rev. A.M. Stephens officiating.
Burial will follow in the Barrier Cemetery, Jonas Ridge, with firefighters honors provided by the Morganton Department of Public Safety.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home for one hour before the service.

James Clyde Hise
CONNELLY SPRINGS - James Clyde Hise, 53, of 2816 Knob Mountain Drive, died Thursday, Oct. 11, 2001, at Catawba Memorial Hospital.
Born Feb. 20, 1948, in Burke County, he was the son of the late Ray and Bonnie McGee Hise.
He was a member of Amherst Baptist Church and was employed by Green Thumb Landscaping Company.
Surviving are his wife, Patricia Queen Hise of the home; a daughter, Kimberly Hise Hughes and her husband, Tim, of Connelly Springs; a son, Shane Hise and his wife, Johanna, of Connelly Springs; a grandson, Hunter Hise of Connelly Springs; a sister, Shirley Hise of Morganton; and nieces, Shawn Reavis-Long of Connelly Springs and Shannon Hanley of Lancaster, S.C.
The memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, at Oak Ridge Baptist Church, with the Revs. Mel Compos and Charlie Crump officiating.
The family will receive friends following the service at the home of Shane Hise in Connelly Springs.

Suzanne M. Belville
EAST COVENTRY, Pa. - Suzanne M. Belville, 51, died Monday, Oct. 8, 2001, at her home following an extended illness.
Born April 1, 1950, in Barre, Vt., she was a daughter of the late Ralph Jameson and Thelma (Champany) Belville.
She was a graduate of Radnor High School.
She was the general manager of the Gypsy Rose Restaurant in Rahns until she retired due to illness. She had a lifelong interest in antiques and folk art and loved to travel.
She was a member of the Community Club of Collegeville, the Historical Society of Trappe, Collegeville and Perkiomen and a member of the Skippack Antikuers.
Surviving are two brothers, Robert C. Belville and his wife, Nancy, of Morganton, and Dale A. Belville and his wife, Kathryn, of Springfield, Pa.; three nieces, Sharon Metzger of Arlington, Mass., Celeste Haq of Decatur, Ga., and Sarah Herold of Sydney, Australia; two nephews, Andrew D. Belville of Norristown, Pa., and Christian Belville of Media, Pa.; and three great-nephews, Andrew J. Belville and Ethan M. Belville, both of Media, Pa., and Phineas T. Haq of Decatur, Ga.
A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.

Henry Gregg Patterson
GLEN ALPINE - Henry Gregg Patterson, 90, of 416 Catawba St., died Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2001, at his home.
Born in Lanford, S.C., he was a son of the late William Lawrence and Janie Fleming Patterson.
He was a graduate of Wofford College and a member of the 50 Year Club.
He joined Roses Department Store in 1935 and in 1953, he was named district manager.
In 1974, he retired after 40 years.
He was active in the Morganton Rotary Club, was past president of the Roanoke Rapids Rotary Club and past president of the N.C. Angus Association.
He had been a resident of Fort Myers, Fla., for the last 25 years.
Surviving are: his wife, Elizabeth Burt Patterson of the home; a son, Robert Hannon Patterson of Asheville; three daughters, Linda Dianne Cobb of Palm Bay, Fla., Rhonda Fleming Metcalf of Morganton, and Frances Moore of Spartanburg, S.C.; two brothers, Ralph F. Patterson Sr., of Clinton, S.C., and W.L. Patterson of Laurens; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Patterson Chapel United Methodist Church.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Eric Cranford
Lt. Cmdr. Eric Allen Cranford, 32, was killed in the terrorist attack while on duty at the Naval Command Center at the Pentagon on Sept. 11.
Eric graduated from East Burke High School in 1987, and North Carolina State University in 1992, with a double major in political science and economics.
After graduation, he was commissioned and accepted for naval flight school.
He served two tours as a helicopter pilot in the Persian Gulf and then was assigned to the Navy Command Center at the Pentagon, where he helped shape U.S. Naval policy in the Navy's Plans, Policy & Operations Directorate.
Surviving are: his wife, Emily Cranford, of Falls Church, Va.; his parents, Betsy and Fred Cranford of Drexel; his brother, Brad, and sister-in-law, Kristie, of Clayton; his grandmother, Treva Nichols of Deep Gap; Emily's parents, Rachel and Dale Cozort of Drexel; and Emily's grandmother, Lillie Wray of Valdese.
A memorial service and burial will be held at Arlington National Cemetery, conducted with full military honors, Oct. 20 at 11 a.m.
special service honoring Eric's memory will be held Oct. 29 at 2 p.m., at Drexel First Baptist Church.
The family has announced the establishment of the Eric A. Cranford Scholarship Fund.
This scholarship will be granted to a Burke County High School graduate accepted at North Carolina State University.

Colin Lee Brittain, Sr.
MORGANTON - Colin Lee Brittain, Sr., 59, of Jamestown Road, died unexpectedly Saturday, Oct. 13, 2001, at Grace Hospital.
Born in Burke County, on Aug. 18, 1942, he was a son of the late Harry Lee Brittain Sr. and Lura Mae Whitener Brittain.
He was a U.S. Army veteran.
For many years, he owned and operated Brittain Dairy Farm and in recent years, Brittain Logging Co.
He was a volunteer fireman with West End Fire Department.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: brothers, Raymond Brittain and Harry L. Brittain, Jr.; a sister, Margaret Brittain; and a granddaughter, Emma Brittain.
Surviving are: his wife, Peggy Bowman Brittain of the home; sons, Colin Lee Brittain and his wife, Nicky, and Harry Wesley Brittain and his wife, Joy, all of Morganton; daughters, Belynda Brittain Clay and her husband, Phillip, of Iron Station, and Lisa Brittain Buff and her husband, Rodney, of Morganton; a stepson, Glenn Edwin Morrison, II of Morganton; sisters, Virginia Rogers and Shirley Mitchell, both of Morganton; grandchildren, Ian Morrison, Megan Brittain, Nathaniel Brittain, Joshua Clay, Haley Brittain and Kelsey Buff; and a number of nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held at 4 p.m. Monday, at Snow Hill United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Nancy Krall, W.G. Davidson and Gary Capps officiating.
Burial will follow in Gibbs Chapel Wesleyan Church cemetery.
