Marie Kade
RUTHERFORD COLLEGE - Marie Munday Kade, 70, died Monday, Oct. 29, 2001, at Frye Regional Medical Center, Hickory, after a period of declining health.
Born Sept. 5, 1931, in Alexander County, she was a daughter of the late Lawson Thomas and Shabie Childers Munday.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Rutherford College, and was a homemaker.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Kade; three brothers, Mitch, Ray and Frank Munday; and a sister, Louvada Sharp.
Surviving are three sons, Tommy Munday of Butner, George Lee Kade of Rutherford College, and Robert Kade of the home; a sister, Faye M. Brown of Taylorsville; caregiver, Rosie Coleman of Hildebran; and seven grandchildren, Jennifer Kade, Jessica Kade, Kaddie Kade, James Hoops, Justin Munday, Colten Munday, and Crystal Munday.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Friday, at Rutherford College First Baptist Church, with the Rev. David Stikeleather officiating.
Interment will follow in the Burke Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8:30 p.m. today, at Heritage Funeral Service, Valdese, where the body will remain until placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the funeral hour.
At other times, the family will be at the residence on Malcolm Boulevard, Rutherford College.

Gregory J. Hogan
MORGANTON - Gregory Joseph Hogan, 73, formerly of Conover, died Sunday, Oct. 28, 2001, at College Pines Nursing Center.
He was born Feb. 2, 1928, in Waterloo, Iowa, to the late Leo F. Hogan and Anna Weiden Hogan.
Mr. Hogan served in the U.S. Navy and retired from the U.S. Air Force, where he served many years as a technical sergeant.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, James Hogan.
He is survived by his wife, Rama Beck Hogan; a brother, William Hogan of Arlington, Iowa; three sisters, Kay Becker of Ole Wein, Iowa, and Mary Konicki and Melita Whitsell, both of Atlanta, Ga.; a step-granddaughter, Lisa Fox; a step-grandson, Aaron Joseph Herman and four step-great-grandchildren.
A mass of Christian burial will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, at St. Charles Catholic Church, with Father Ken Whittington officiating.
Interment will follow the mass at Burke Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends Wednesday at the funeral home, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

John March
MORGANTON - John March, 94, of 107 Magnolia Drive, died Sunday, Oct. 28, 2001, at Britthaven of Morganton, following an extended illness.
Born July 26, 1907, in Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Rufus March and Amanda Pompey March.
He was a member of Chambers Chapel Baptist Church, where he was part of the Gospel Choir and a former deacon.
He was retired from Drexel-Heritage Furniture after 25 years as a pipe fitter.
Mr. March also played baseball in the Negro National Baseball League with the Florida Cuban Giants and was a former member of the Blue Ridge Center.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Horton March, and a daughter, Essie Mae March Crisp.
He was also preceded in death by an infant son.
Surviving are granddaughters, Vicky Crisp Cuthbertson of Drexel and Susan Crisp of Glen Alpine; grandsons, Alfred Crisp, III of Lenoir, Ricky Crisp of Marion, Todd Crisp and Rodney Crisp, both of Glen Alpine; 10 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and a host of nephews, nieces, and a circle of family and friends.
The funeral will be held 3 p.m. Thursday at Chambers Chapel Baptist Church with the Revs. Tommy Carpenter, John Cantrell, Herbert Carter and Frances Tate officiating.
Burial will be in Mount Herman AME Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 2:30 until 2:55 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
At other times, the family will be at the residence of Todd Crisp, 3343 Lytle Drive, Glen Alpine.

MORGANTON - Pauline Buff Brown, 91, of Colony Drive, died Monday, Oct. 29, 2001, at her residence following a period of declining health.
Born May 21, 1910, in Patrick, S.C., she was a daughter of the late Dr. John Thomas Buff and Ada Dixon Buff.
She was a registered nurse, formerly employed at the North Carolina School for the Deaf and also Broughton Hospital.
She was a member of First Baptist Church of Morganton.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George K. Brown; and a brother, James Edward Buff.
Surviving are a daughter, Georganne Crowe and her husband, Charles, of Morganton; and grandsons, Charles Deeluqwadag Crowe and his wife, Mary, of Scottsdale, Ariz., and John Wadiyei Crowe of Morganton.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home, with the Rev. Tom Lineberger officiating.
Burial will follow at Burke Memorial Park.

MORGANTON - Nashia Rebena Small Hough, 76, died Monday, Oct. 29, 2001, at Morganton Long Term Care.
Born Aug. 6, 1925, in Burke County, she was the daughter of the late Ivey Hunter Small and Winnie Goins Barkley.
She was a homemaker.
Surviving are her son, Allan Rodney Hough of Morganton, and her brother, Winston Small of Morganton.
A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. today, at Forest Hill Cemetery, with the Rev. Allen Fredell officiating.

HUDSON - David Alan Poteet, 40, died Sunday, Oct. 28, 2001.
Born Oct. 17, 1961, in Burke County, he was a son of David and Myrtle Smith Poteet of Hudson.
He was a member of Lakeview Baptist Church in Lenoir and a graduate of West Caldwell High School, class of 1979.
He enjoyed playing the guitar and loved sharing his talent with family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Cindy Diane Clark.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Samantha F. Poteet; sons, David Alan Poteet of Lenoir, Matthew Alexander Poteet of Hickory; a daughter, Pamela Smith of Hudson; a brother, Brian Poteet of Morganton; a sister, Vickie Franklin of Sawmills; a maternal grandmother, Dorothy Smith of Morganton; nieces, Cindy and Amber Poteet and grandson, Dalton Ford.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, at Kirksey Memorial Chapel, with the Rev. Robert Brown officiating.
Interment will follow at Denton's Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Emily Ribet
GREENSBORO - Emily Catherine Ribet, 75, of Donegal Drive, died Saturday, Oct. 27, 2001, at her residence.
Miss Ribet was born in Valdese.
She retired in 1986, after being a physical education teacher and a coach in the Guildford County School System for 30 years.
She graduated from Mary Washington College of the University of Virginia in 1947, with a Bachelor of Science degree.
In 1957, she graduated from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro with a Master of Education degree.
She was also a counselor at the Sky Ranch Camp, a member of Green Valley, Belair and Long View Ladies Golf Association, a life member of the High School Athletic Association, active in the Special Olympics, a tennis and track coach at Page High School for many years and an avid Carolina fan.
Surviving are a brother, Ferdinand A. Ribet of Valdese; a sister, Hilda Deaton of Rock Hill, S.C.; and several nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m. Thursday, at Forbis & Dick Funeral Service, Greensboro.

MORGANTON - John Eric Sisk, 31, of Forest Hill Street, died Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2001, at his residence.
He was a member of the Happy Heart Sunday School Class at Burkemont Baptist Church, where he was a member.
Preceding him in death is his mother, Rosena Boaer Sisk; and a brother, Tommy Allen Sisk.
Surviving are his father, Paul C. Sisk of Morganton; brothers, Paul C. Sisk, Jr. of Las Vegas, Nev., Ray J. Sisk of Shelby, George W. Sisk of Granite Falls, and James E. Sisk of the home; sisters, Ruth Ann Sisk Isaacs of Tennessee, Pam Sisk of Burke County, Anna L. Sisk of Taylorsville, Rosena S. Kiziah of Valdese, Jenny Tester of North Wilkesboro, and Mary P. Sisk of the home; cousin, Nancy Barton of Morganton; and several nieces and nephews.
