Johnnie Dale
Johnnie A. Dale, 85, of U.S. 70 West, Morganton, died Monday, June 12, 2000, at Mission St. Joseph's Hospital in Asheville, following an extended illness.
Born Nov. 12, 1914, in Burke County, he was a son of the late Jink Dale and Jesse Seagle Dale.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: a daughter, Betty L. Tevepaugh; and brothers, William Dale and Ernest Dale.
He was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church.
Surviving are: his wife, Louise Whisnant Dale of the home; sons and daughters-in-law, Johnnie and Linda Dale of Morganton, and James E. and Phyllis Dale of Valdese; brothers, Ralph Dale, George Dale and Millard Dale, all of Morganton, and Albert Dale of Old Fort; sisters, Bertha Scott of Glen Alpine, Louise Whisnant of Morganton, and Mary Sigmon of Hickory; six grandchildren; and eight grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 14, at Mount Olive Baptist Church, with the Rev. Robert Ferguson officiating.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 8:30 p.m., at Sossoman Funeral Home, where the body will remain until placed in the church 30 minutes before the funeral hour.
At other times, the family will be at the residence, 1609 U.S. 70 West in Morganton.

Evelyn Hollar
Evelyn Louise Hollar, 92, of Edgemont Terrace, Morganton, died Friday, June 16, 2000, at Grace Heights.
Born April 24, 1908, in Asheville, she was a daughter of the late Henry and Carrie Lee Saunders Hollar.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers Richard Lee Hollar and Emerson Lee Hollar; and a sister, Carrie Mae Harville.
She was a member of Morganton Seventh-day Adventist Church and did volunteer work in Community Services at her church.
She made her home with her sister, Mary Swain of Morganton, and spent her winters in Florida.
She retired from Takoma Hospital in Greenville, Tenn., after 30 years as a medical secretary. She volunteered in the medical records department at Broughton Hospital.
Surviving are: sisters, Mary E. Swain of Morganton, Nellie Love Olson of Conyers, Ga., and Dorothy Jean Gant of Asheville; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 2:30 p.m. today, in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home, with the Revs. Ed Herzel and Tim K. Sheridan officiating.
Burial will follow in the Seventh-day Adventist Church cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 1 until 2:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
At other times, the family will be at the residence of a niece, Shirley Mitchell, 3804 Norman Road, Morganton.

Nellie Carswell
Nellie Mae Franklin Carswell, 79, of Loy Shuffler Road, Morganton, died Saturday, June 17, 2000, at her residence following an extended illness.
Born on Nov. 15, 1920, in Burke County, she was the daughter of the late Hugh W. and Emmie Lela Whisnant Franklin.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Carswell; sons Ben Carswell and James R. Carswell; and brothers, James Franklin and Carl Franklin.
Mrs. Carswell worked for Premiere Hosiery and loved to sing gospel music.
Surviving are: a granddaughter, Pamela Carswell Dupuis of Morganton; her great-granddaughter, Jennifer Dupuis of Morganton, who was the light in her life; and sisters, Gladys Vaughn, Ruby Propst, Rosalie Franklin, Bessie Mulweed, Betty Sue Allen, and Martha Blanchard, all of Morganton.
The funeral will be held 11 a.m. Monday, in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home, with the Rev. Burean Clark officiating.
Burial will follow at Burke Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 p.m. today at Sossoman Funeral Home.

Clifton Williams
Clifton Charles Williams, 32, of Harrison Carswell Avenue, Morganton, died Thursday, June 15, 2000, at Alleghany Memorial Hospital in Sparta.
Born Dec. 23, 1967, in Yancey County, he was the son of Bobby Kenneth Williams and Juanita Ollis Williams of Morganton.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by: his paternal grandmother, Martha Monee Honeycutt of Nebo; a brother, Michael Darin Williams of Morganton; his sisters, Sandra Poarch of Lenoir, Vickie Swink, Deana Scarboro and Robin Williams, all of Morganton; nephews Josh Poarch, Cody Poarch and Kip Arnett; and a niece, Destiny Williams.
A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 22, at Seventh-day Adventist Church with Pastor Tim Sheridan officiating.
There will be no formal visitation.

Margie Miller
HICKORY - Margie Hicks Presnell Miller, 72, of 426 2nd Avenue S.E., a native and former resident of Watauga County, died Friday, June 16, 2000, at Frye Regional Medical Center.
Born May 30, 1928, in Watauga County, she was a daughter of the late John and Martha Ellen Presley Hicks.
She was a member of Bethany Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Howard Odell Presnell; two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Ward and Mrs. Ore Rominger; and a brother, Gold Hicks.
Mrs. Miller is survived by: her husband, James Miller of the home; six daughters, Mrs. Wanda Farrior and husband, Ken, of Marion, Mrs. Betty Higgins and husband, Herman, of Greensboro, Mrs. Vickie Stamey and husband, Bob, of Boone, Mrs. Peggy Cota and husband, Mike, of Granite Falls, and Mrs. Donna Broomer and husband, James, of Gastonia; one son, Howard Presnell of Morganton; two brothers, Robert Hicks and Luther Hicks, both of Banner Elk; 13 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mrs. Margie Hicks Presnell Miller will be conducted today at 2 p.m. at Bethany Baptist Church.
The body will lie in state at the church from 1 until 2 p.m.
Officiating will be Rev. Gilbert Ward.
Burial will follow in the Yates Cemetery.
The family received friends Saturday at Hampton Funeral Service.

Thelma White
Thelma Cook White, 84, of 111 Locust Street, Rutherford College, died Friday, June 16, 2000, at her residence.
Formerly of Lawndale, Mrs. White was born July 6, 1915, in Cleveland County.
She was the daughter of the late Oscar Cook and Hattie Cook Cook.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow Franklin White; a son, Delbert White; two brothers, O.C. Cook and Zollie Cook; and a sister, Corene Buff.
A homemaker and former employee of Cleveland Mills in Lawndale, she was a member of Olive Grove Baptist Church.
Surviving are: a son Walter White and wife, Shirley, of Rutherford College; two daughters, Estelle Walker and husband, Paul, of Shelby, and Linda Edwards and husband, Tommy, of Shelby; brothers, Warren Cook and Lester Cook, both of Casar; 10 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday, at Olive Grove Baptist Church, with the Revs. Terrill Crump and Buren Hastings officiating.
The body will lie in state at the church 30 minutes before the funeral.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 6:30 until 8 p.m. at Stamey Funeral Home.

Mae Belle Dale, 86, of U.S. 70 East, Drexel, died Saturday, June 17, 2000, at her residence.

Robert Brown, 50, of Falls Street, Morganton, died Saturday, June 17, 2000, in Valdese General Hospital.

Coman R. Mosteller
Coman R. Mosteller, 53, of Suburban Drive, Morganton, died Saturday, June 17, 2000, at Grace Hospital following a long period of declining health.
Born Jan. 18, 1947, in Burke County, he was the son of Vestie Carswell Mosteller of Morganton, and the late Raymond Mosteller, Sr.
Mr. Mosteller was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.
Surviving, in addition to his mother, are: his wife, Lynda Williams Mosteller of the home; a stepson, Chris Pritchard of Morganton; brothers, Raymond Mosteller, Jr. and Bill Mosteller both of Morganton; grandsons, Alex Pritchard and Daniel Pritchard; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 20, 2000, in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Larry Cline officiating.
Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at Sossoman Funeral Home.
