Mae Belle Dale
Mae Belle Dale, 86, of U.S. 70 East, Drexel, died Saturday, June 17, 2000, at her residence.
Mrs. Dale was born Jan. 30, 1914, in Burke County, to the late George Lackey Bradshaw and Lelia Bradshaw Bradshaw and is also preceded in death by her husband, Elbert Hayes Dale.
Survivors include: one son, G. Allen Dale and wife, Yvette of McLean, Va.; three brothers, Arnold Bradshaw of Drexel, Finely Harold Bradshaw of South Carolina, and George Bradshaw of Morganton; one sister, Helen Q. Walker of Morganton; two grandchildren, Alexander and Christopher Dale, both of McLean, Va.
Visitation hours for Mrs. Dale will be 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Kirksey Funeral Home, Morganton.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 20, at the First Advent Christian Church, Morganton, with the Rev. Jim Taber officiating.
Interment will follow in the Burke Memorial Park Cemetery.
Pearl V. Hallyburton
Pearl V. Hall Hallyburton, 95, of Morganton, died Sunday, June 18, 2000.
Born July 6, 1904, in Burke County, Mrs. Hallyburton was the daughter of the late William Cameron Hall and Laura Selena Fisher Hall.
She is also preceded in death by: her husband, John Julius Halliburton; and a son, Robert J. Hallyburton.
Mrs. Hallyburton was an active member of the Calvary Lutheran Church, Morganton, the Eastern Star and the local VFW.
Survivors include: one son, James F. Hallyburton of Morganton; one brother, James Hall of Richmond, Va.; two daughters, Raye H. Hedgepath of Durham and Sara M. Stroup of Arlington, Va.; one daughter-in-law, Patricia Hallyburton of Durham; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Visitation hours for Mrs. Hallyburton will be 2 to 3 p.m. Tuesday, June 20, 2000, at Kirksey Funeral Home, Morganton.
Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Tuesday, June 20, in the Kirksey Memorial Chapel, Morganton, with the Rev. Michael Riley officiating.
Interment will follow in the Burke Memorial Park Cemetery.

Bobby Dale Hunt
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - Bobby Dale Hunt, 47, died unexpectedly Tuesday, June 6, 2000, at his home in West Palm Beach, Fla.
Born in North Carolina, on Jan. 30, 1953, he grew up in Lincoln County.
He graduated from West Lincoln High School in 1971, and attended U.N.C.-Charlotte.
He was a member of Laurel Hill United Methodist Church in Vale, N.C.
At the time of his death, he was employed in sales in North Palm Beach, Fla.
Mr. Hunt was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Ike Sain, of Vale, where he grew up working in his grandfather's country store.
He was also preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Dovie and Broadus Hunt of Casar.
Mr. Hunt is survived by: his mother and stepfather, Faye and Ted Brittain of Shelby; his father and stepmother, Bob and Mary Ann Hunt of Vale; his maternal grandmother, Carrie Sain of Vale; one sister, Sherry Hunt of Morganton; two stepsisters and their husbands, Melanie and Ed Hamrick and Cathy and Gene Smith, all of Shelby; a stepbrother, Michael Davis of Jacksonville, Fla.; two nephews, Trey and Derek Ross of Morganton; one step-nephew, Tripp Smith of Shelby; and two step-nieces, Brittany and Lauren Hamrick of Shelby.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, June 20, at 7 p.m. in the Chapel of Stamey Funeral Home in Fallston, with the Rev. George Burton officiating.
An interpreter will be provided for the deaf.
The family will receive friends following the service.

Grace W. Hoke
Grace W. Hoke, 98, of Forest Hill Street, Morganton, died Saturday, June 17, 2000, at Britthaven of Morganton following a brief illness.
Born in Cleveland County, on March 18, 1902, she was the daughter of the late Jessie and Zula Willis Warlick.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by: her husband, Garland C. Hoke; and by a great-grandson, Zackary Hoke.
Mrs. Hoke was a retired employee of Broughton Hospital and was a member of First United Methodist Church.
Surviving are: a son and his wife, Pinkey and Geneva Hoke of Morganton; grandchildren, Steven Hoke of Lexington, Va., and Kathy Hoke of Morganton; great-grandchildren, Kaitlin Hoke, Matthew Hoke, Mike Hoke, Andy Hoke and Laurel Hoke; and a sister, Edna Parker of Charlotte.
Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, June 20, at Burke Memorial Park with the Rev. Jim Marsh officiating.
The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Sossoman Funeral Home.
At other times, the family will be at Mrs. Hoke's residence, 218 Forest Hill St., Morganton.

Fran Hubbard Miller
GRANITE FALLS - Fran Hubbard Miller, 50, of Ala Lane, died Sunday, June 18, 2000, at Kirkwood Hospice of Caldwell County, following an illness of six months.
Born in Caldwell County, on June 11, 1950, she was the daughter of Hazel Dixie Walker Hubbard of Hickory, and the late Lawrence D. Hubbard.
She graduated in 1972, from Norton's Infirmary in Louisville, Ky., as a medico legal secretary.
She graduated from Caldwell Community College receiving her certification as an Emergency Medical Technician.
Mrs. Miller was employed by Hickory Business Furniture as the coordinator of health, benefits and safety.
She was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Hudson.
Surviving, in addition to her mother, are: her husband, Gary Wayne Miller of the home; a son, Joshua Marcus Miller of the home; brothers and their wives, Patrick and Nancy Hubbard of Morganton, and Phillip and Gloria Hubbard of Hudson; a sister and her husband, Becky and Mike Helton of Hickory; and a number of nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 21, at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, with the Rev. Duane Kuykendall officiating.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, at Sossoman Funeral Home, where the body will remain until placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the funeral hour.

James 'J.C.' Lowman
Mr. James Cecil "J.C." Lowman, 74, of Powell Avenue, Valdese, died Saturday, June 17, 2000, at Valdese General Hospital after a brief illness.
Mr. Lowman was born April 23, 1926, in Burke County, to the late Horace Lowman and Annie Heavner Lowman Stephens.
He was a member of New Covenant Full Gospel Church, an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and retired from Drexel Heritage Plant #1.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Seagle Lowman.
Surviving are: two sons, Dannie Lowman of Hopewell, Va. and Tommy Allen Lowman of Longmont, Colo.; two daughters, Sherry L. Bivens of Drexel, and Connie L. Philips of Nebo; two sisters, Effie Laughridge of Drexel and Eva Wilson of Connelly Springs; a half-brother, Larry Stephens of Valdese; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for James Cecil "J.C." Lowman will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 21, at New Covenant Full Gospel Church, Valdese, with the Revs. Ray and Faye Clemens and the Rev. Rockey McLenden officiating.
Interment with military rites by American Legion Post #234 of Valdese, will be in the Abee's Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Heritage Funeral Service, Valdese, N.C., where the body will remain until placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the services.
At other times, the family will be at the residence of Sherry Bivens, Clark's Avenue, Valdese.

James 'Pick' Ervin
James E. "Pick" Ervin, 87, of Claywell Street, Morganton, died Sunday, June 18, 2000, in the Longview Assisted Living Center, Morganton.
Born June 28, 1912, in Burke County, Mr. Ervin was the son of the late James McKesson and Janie Ervin.
In addition to his parents, "Pick" was preceded in death by his wife, Addie Mae Avery Ervin and a brother, William Ervin.
After having served in the U.S. Navy during W.W. II, Mr. Ervin was employed by the City of Morganton, until retiring and then worked with Bristol Electronics.
He was a Charter member of the American Legion Berry-Chambers-Wright Post 322 and a member of the Gaston Chapel A.M.E. Church, Morganton, serving on the Steward Board and the Trustee Board as well.
"Pick" enjoyed cooking as a hobby.
Survivors include: one daughter, Susan Ervin Hendrix of Morganton; one brother, James McKesson of Philadelphia, Pa.; one sister, Augustine Boyd of Philadelphia, Pa; one sister-in-law, Cardell Ervin of Morganton; one niece, Bernadette Thompson of Asheville; one nephew, James Thompson of Asheville; two grandsons, James Brandon and Wesley Ervin Herndrix, both of Morganton.
Visitation hours will be 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 21, at Kirksey Funeral Home, Morganton.
Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Thursday, June 22, at the Gaston Chapel A.M.E. Church, with the Revs. Ronald Knight, Herbert Carter and W.F. McIntosh officiating.
Entombment will follow in the Burke Memorial Park Mausoleum with Military Rites to be performed by the American Legion Ceremonial team.

Carl Cline
Mr. Carl Jackson Cline, 49, of Hildebran, died Sunday, June 18, 2000, at his residence.
Born June 23, 1950, in Burke County, he was the son of the late Guy and Edna Shoup Cline.
He was employed with C.V. Industries.
Mr. Cline was preceded in death by two brothers, Homer and James Cline.
Surviving are: seven brothers, Boyd Cline of Hildebran, Ray Cline of Hickory, Guy Cline, Robert Cline, Ronnie Cline, all of Hildebran, Charles Cline of Granite Falls, and Paul Cline of Hickory; one sister, Sadie White of Hildebran; and special friend, Margaret Herman of Hickory.
Funeral services will be 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 21, at Bass-Smith Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. David Robinson officiating.
Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.
His nephews will serve as pallbearers.

Julie Kaster
Julie Emma Bumgarner Kaster, age 68, of Valdese, died Sunday, June 18, 2000, at her residence, following a period of declining health.
Mrs. Kaster was born on Dec. 24, 1931, in Watauga County, to the late George and Julia Emma Childers Bumgarner.
She was a United States Army Veteran serving nine years in Military Intelligence and retired from Southern Devices after 24 years as an Electrical Assembler.
She was a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church and was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Wayne Kaster, Sr.
