Lloyd Yount
Mr. Robert Lloyd Yount, Jr., 79, of Drexel, died Monday, Aug. 14, 2000, at Grace Hospital, after a period of declining health.
Mr. Yount was born June 23, 1921, in Catawba County, to the late Robert Lloyd, Sr. and Fannie Elliott Yount.
He was a member of Drexel First Baptist Church, an Army veteran of World War II and retired as a machinist in the hosiery industry.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte McNeely Yount, and a sister, Mavis Yount Miller.
Surviving are: a son, Terry Bryan Yount and wife, Candace; and two granddaughters, Jennifer Yount and Laura Yount, all of Drexel.
Funeral services for Robert Lloyd Yount, Jr. will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, in the chapel of Heritage Funeral Service, Valdese.
Interment will be in the Bethlehem United Methodist Church cemetery in Claremont.
The Yount family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today, at Heritage Funeral Service, Valdese.

'Ronnie' Elliott
LOWELL - Larry "Ronnie" Elliott, 35, of 13 Black St., died Saturday, Aug. 12, 2000, at his residence.
He was a native of Buncombe County.
He was a self-employed truck driver.
He served in the Army National Guard.
He was a graduate of South Point High School and a member of Sharon Freewill Baptist Church.
He was a grandson of the late John Edward Williams, and Taft and Eva Garrison Elliott.
Survivors include: his wife, Jodi "Dawn" Morrow Elliott; father and stepmother, Lawrence E. and Joyce Linda Elliott of Union Mills; mother and stepfather, Linda Williams Haggins of Morganton, and Frank Haggins of Gastonia; maternal grandmother, Belle Williams Smith of Banner Elk; sons, Dylan Taft Elliott of Gastonia, and Gary Kyle Elliott of the home; daughter, Erin Lee Elliott of Gastonia; stepson, Joey Biddix of the home; stepbrother, Kenny Ray Willett of Hickory; step-sisters, April Cooley of Charlotte, and Marci Nealey of Charlotte.
Services will be held Wednesday, at Sharon Freewill Baptist Church, at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Odell Cook officiating.
Visitation will be today from 7 to 9 p.m. at McLean Funeral Directors.
Burial will be at Sharon Freewill Baptist Church.
Pallbearers will be Eric Elliott, Kevin Elliott, Mark Walters, Gary Morrow, Shane Langley and Ernie Burns.
McLean Funeral Directors is assisting the Elliott family.
Millard Lee Norman
Millard Lee Norman, 81, of Highway 64, Morganton, died unexpectedly Monday, Aug. 14, 2000, at his residence, following several years of declining health.
Born March 18, 1919, in Burke County, he was a son of the late Vester Lee Norman and Lillie Mae Denton Norman.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: brothers, Thomas Norman and Clarence Norman; and sisters, Jane Poteat and Vernie Hunter.
He was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, and a retired employee of Henredon Furniture with 35 years of service.
Surviving are: his wife, Loretta Reynolds Norman of the home; daughters, Sarah Brown and her husband, Charlie, Vesta Ball and her husband, I.V., and Rebecca Callahan and her husband, Mark, all of Morganton, and Sylvia Norman of Oklahoma City, Okla.; brothers, Vance Norman and Lewis Norman, both of Morganton; sisters, Bonnie Mull of Rutherford College and Stella Webb of Drexel; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2000, in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home, with Mr. Steve Brown and Mr. Gene Lail officiating.
Burial will follow in the Jehovah's Witness cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Sossoman Funeral Home.
'Bibi' Johnson Cook
Mrs. Ethel "Bibi" Johnson Cook, 57, of Conley Road, died Monday, Aug. 14, 2000, at Frye Regional Medical Center in Hickory.
Born in Burke County, she was a daughter of the late James Elmore Johnson and Margaret Sparks Johnson.
She was a homemaker and a member of Missionary Ridge Baptist Church.
She is survived by: her husband, Otis Spencer Cook; daughter and son-in-law, Jeraldine and Bobby Street of Morganton; brothers, David Johnson and Floyd Johnson, both of Morganton; sisters, Dorothy Costner of Morganton, and Mabel Carswell of Louisville, Ky.; grandchildren, Misty Street and J.D. Street; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mrs. Cook, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 16, at Missionary Ridge Baptist Church, with the Rev. Donald Lovelace officiating. Interment will follow the service in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

MORGANTON - Walter (Buster) Williams, 87, of 1884 Paul Shuping Ave., died Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2000, at Grace Hospital.
Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. today, in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home, Waynesville.
Visitation was Thursday.
Ethel Williamson
MORGANTON - Mrs. Ethel Virginia Chester Williamson, 86, died Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2000, at Caldwell Memorial Hospital in Lenoir.
Born Oct. 21, 1913, in Burke County, she was a daughter of the late Laburn Lindsey Chester and Essie Mae Lingle Chester.
Mrs. Williamson was a member of Antioch Baptist Church and was a homemaker.
Survivors include: four sisters, Faye Chester Witcher, Sue Chester Fruitticher, Florence Chester Penley, all of Morganton, and Lucille Chester Isaac of Lenoir; four brothers, Maynard Chester and Ronald Chester, both of Morganton, Howard Chester of Lenoir, and Albert Chester of Gross Pointe, Mich.
Visitation for the Williamson family will be held from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Saturday, at Kirksey Funeral Home, Morganton.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, at Antioch Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Brady Adkins presiding.
Interment will follow in the Mount Pleasant Methodist Church cemetery.

MORGANTON - Brandi Houk Clark, 21, of Bennett Road, died Thursday, Oct. 5, 2000.

Arthur 'Grant' Pearson
VALDESE Arthur "Grant" Pearson, 77, of Powell Drive Extension, died Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2000, at Catawba Memorial Hospital in Hickory, following a period of declining health.
Born April 14, 1923, in Burke County, he was a son of the late John Lee Pearson and Effie Hoffman Pearson.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: sons, Randy Pearson and Barry Pearson; and brothers, Clyde Pearson and Doyle Pearson.
He was a member of United Baptist Church and was a retired employee of Western Piedmont Community College.
Surviving are: his wife, Juanita Whisenant Pearson of the home; sons, Grant Eugene Pearson of Chattanooga, Tenn., Mike Pearson of Valdese, Terryl Pearson of Drexel and Bryon Pearson of Morganton; daughters, Detra Hall of Morganton, and Lana German of Lenoir; sisters, Louise Towery of Charlotte, Erlene Whisnant, Faye Lyle and Marion McNeely, all of Morganton; 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, at United Baptist Church, with the Revs. Darrell Saunders and James E. Lee officiating.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Sossoman Funeral Home, where the body will remain until placed in the church 30 minutes before the funeral hour.
At other times, the family will be at the residence, 2901 Powell Drive Extension in Valdese.

Jerry Kent Wade
HILDEBRAN - Jerry Kent Wade, 57, of North Center Street, and the Greensboro area, died Monday, Dec. 11, 2000, at Frye Regional Medical Center after a period of declining health.
Jerry was born Oct. 9, 1943, in Burke County, to the late Samuel Jennings and Luda Amelia Eckard Wade.
He was very active in his church and community affairs, having served as past president of an area Chamber of Commerce.
He organized and was past chairman of the Archdale-Trinity Bush-Hill Heritage Festival.
For a number of years, Mr. Wade was the director of purchasing for Stroupe Mirror Co. in Thomasville.
He is a member of the First Lutheran Church in Greensboro, and attended Mount Hebron Lutheran Church while living in Hildebran.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Thomas Nelson Wade and Miles Norman Wade.
Surviving are: his wife of 36 years, Mary Sain Wade of the home; a sister, Marie Wade Smith of Connelly Springs; his father-in-law, Philo Sain of Hildebran; his mother-in-law, Ila Mae Sain of Hildebran; and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.
A service of worship and celebration will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, at Mount Hebron Lutheran Church, in Hildebran, with his pastor, Charles Zimmerman, and the Rev. Gary Coble officiating.
The Wade family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, at Mount Hebron Lutheran Church, in Hildebran.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, at Catawba Memorial Park.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, at First Lutheran Church in Greensboro, with the Rev. Charles Zimmerman officiating.
