MORGANTON - William Kenneth "Kenny" Smith Jr., 36, of North Greet Street, was found dead, Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2000.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Sossoman Funeral Home.
John William Fox, Jr.
MORGANTON - John William Fox, Jr., 86, of Morganton Long Term Care, died Thursday, March 29, 2001, at the nursing home following a period of declining health.
Born Sept. 10, 1914, in Burke County, he was a son of the late John William Fox and Della Scott Fox.
He was a member of Zion Baptist Church and a retired employee of Hickory Chair Company.
Mr. Fox was a Gunner's Mate in the U.S. Navy and a veteran of World War II, where he served in the Pacific Theater.
He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy on Dec. 6, 1945. He was a long time member of the American Legion.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Ollie Mae Barrier Fox; a daughter, Elizabeth Smoot; two brothers, Charlie Fox and Lee Fox and three sisters, Nora Whisnant, Violet Black and Ann Cannon.
Surviving are his wife, Margaret Fox of Morganton; sons, Johnny Fox of Catawba and David Fox of Henry, Va.; daughters, Deborah Robertson of Acworth, Ga., and Jean Mattingly of Glen Burnie, Md.; brothers, James Fox of Washington, and Ulsus Fox of Little Rock, Ark.; sisters, Louise Fox and Edith Bishop, both of Morganton; 11 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, at Sossoman Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dr. Ralph May officiating.
Burial will be in Burke Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 7 to 8:30 p.m., at the funeral home.

Clarence 'Eb' Bradshaw
MORGANTON - Clarence "Eb" Elbert Bradshaw, 72, died Thursday, March 29, 2001, at his residence after a long period of declining health.
Born in July 15, 1928, in Burke County, he was a son of the late Patton Bradshaw and Fannie Swink Bradshaw.
Mr. Bradshaw was a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church, and was a U.S. Army Veteran, having served in the Korean Conflict.
Mr. Bradshaw was a mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for 16 years, and also retired as a healthcare technician at Broughton Hospital, after 24 years of service.
Surviving are his wife, Carolyn Smith Bradshaw of the home; a son, Keith Bradshaw of Hickory; a daughter, Karen Bradshaw of Hickory; three brothers, Harold Bradshaw, Bill Bradshaw and Lee Swink, all of Connelly Springs; a stepson, Ronnie Butler of Morganton; a stepdaughter, Rebecca Early of Morganton; three grandchildren and three step-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held 3 p.m. Saturday, at the Zion Hill Baptist Church, with the Rev. Burl Sain officiating.
Interment will follow in the Zion Baptist Church Cemetery.
Visitation will be held today from 7 to 8:30 p.m., at Kirksey Funeral Home in Morganton.

Josh Warren Greene
MORGANTON - On Wednesday, March 28, 2001, a fine Christian gentleman, good citizen and beautiful soul, Josh Warren Greene passed on.
Born Feb. 24, 1911, in Union, S.C., he was a son of Maryland and Anne Greene.
He grew up in Union, and graduated from Union High School.
He then worked for Arthur State Bank.
During World War II, he served in Iceland, England, Germany, and France.
After the war, he used his talents for Deering Milliken until he retired as director of personnel services in 1975.
He continued as consultant for Milliken, serving as a popular public speaker promoting the virtues of the free enterprise system.
Josh was active in both church and community affairs.
He was a member of the Full Gospel Business Men's Association and served as a counselor for the Christian Reconciliation Counsel.
Using his 58-year long marriage to his wife, Mary Agnes, who died in 1997, as a basis, he taught classes on successful family life.
He is survived by his three sons and a nephew, of whom he was very proud: son, Jack "Jake" Warren Greene and his wife, Pamela of Tega Cay, S.C., son, James "Jim" Allen Greene and his wife, Caren of Oxford, Ga., son, Richard "Dick" Green and his wife, Prudy of Morganton, and his nephew, Gary Greene of San Antonio, Texas.
He has seven grandchildren, Rance, Josh, Graham, Casey, Warren, Allison, and John and a brother, Harold and his wife, Janelle of Paris, Texas.
There will be a celebration of life service at 1 p.m. on Saturday, at ARP Presbyterian Church, Skylyn Drive in Spartanburg, S.C., where Josh and Mary Agnes lived for almost 40 years.
A graveside service will follow at Union Memorial Gardens in Union, at 3:30 p.m.
The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to "There is More Ministries," Balsam Grove, N.C. 28708.
Josh, we will all miss your loving heart, your keen sense of humor, and your strong Christian example.
There will be a gathering with a light supper for friends and family, following the graveside service at Union House, North Gadberry Street.

Myrtle McGalliard Yancey
DREXEL - Myrtle McGalliard Yancey, 91, formally of Ridge Street, Rutherford College, died Thursday, March 29, 2001, at Autumn Care Nursing Center, after a period of declining health.
Born Oct. 28, 1909, in Burke County, she was a daughter of the late LaFette and Gertie Lou Williams McGalliard.
She was retired from Robinson Hosiery Mill and was a member of East Valdese Baptist Church, serving in the WMU and as a homebound mission worker of her church, delivering books and tapes to the shut-ins.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Yancey, Sr.
Surviving are sons, Roy Yancey, Jr. and his wife, Jennie, of Rutherford College, and Charles Yancey and his wife, Linda, of Valdese; daughters, Ann Buff and her husband, Ronnie, of Hildebran, and Rachel Crowder and her husband, Jerry, of Connelly Springs; brother, Owens McGalliard of Valdese; sisters, Allie Dellinger and Martha Williams, both of Drexel, and Evelyn Morgan of Morganton; 14 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, at Heritage Funeral Service in Valdese, with the Rev. Marion Powell officiating.
Interment will be in the Enon Baptist Church Cemetery.

CHARLOTTE - Rassie Baker, 94, of Sharon Towers, and formally of Carolina Street in Valdese, died Thursday, March 29, 2001, after a period of declining health.
Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, in the Waldensian Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
Memorial services will follow in the Waldensian Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Feild Russell officiating.
The family will receive friends after the service at the church.

Hazel H. Brackett
DREXEL - Hazel Hodge Brackett, 81, of Williams Road, died Wednesday, April 4, 2001, at Hospice Shytle House in Valdese, following a lengthy illness.
Born Oct. 19, 1919, in Cleveland County, she was a daughter of the late Henry Hodge and Vernie Mae Jolly Hodge.
She began work at Broughton Hospital in 1950, and later retired from there.
Mrs. Brackett was a member of Drexel Memorial Baptist Church.
She was a volunteer at Burke United Christian Ministries and found her work there very enjoyable.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sisters, Vera Lois Hodge, Elizabeth Nadine Hodge and Sara Eolian Hodge; a son-in-law, John Michael Cline; and a nephew, Wayne Nelson.
Survivors are: her husband, James V. Brackett; daughters, Yvonne Cline and Janice B. Courtney and her husband, Will, all of Drexel; a sister, Helen Hodge Sebastian of York, S.C.; a grandson, Michael Dylan Cline of Drexel; and a niece, Linda Diane Nelson of Rock Hill, S.C.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, at Drexel Memorial Baptist Church, with the Rev. Carl Street officiating.
Burial will follow at Burke Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 8:30 p.m., at Sossoman Funeral Home, where the body will remain until placed in the church 30 minutes before the funeral hour.

Suzanna Bridges
VALDESE - Suzanna "Susie" Anais Bleynat Bridges, 88, died Wednesday, April 4, 2001, at College Pines Nursing Home.
Born Sept. 29, 1912, in Burke County, she was a daughter of the late Albert Bleynat and Anais Long Bleynat.
She was a member of the Waldensian Presbyterian Church in Valdese.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jason C. Bridges, Sr. and a brother, Charles Bleynat.
Survivors are: daughters, Amelia B. and Keith Nicholson of Chesterfield, Va., and Anaise B. and Robert Lawson Puckett of Nashville, Ga.; sons, Dale Eugene Bridges and his wife, Dolly of Ft. Pierce, Fla., and Jason C. Bridges, Jr. and his wife, Debbie of Franklin, Ind.; sisters, Mary Leatherman, Helen Warlick, Harriet Hastings, and Wilma Jones, all of Valdese; brothers, John Bleynat, George Bleynat, and Edward Bleynat, all of Valdese; eight grandchildren, and nine nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, at Waldensian Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Feild Russell officiating.
