Mr. James Howell
ROCKWELL -- James Baxter "Big Jim" Howell, 65, of Rockwell died unexpectedly Saturday, Oct. 13, 2001, at his residence.
The service will be at 9 a.m. Tuesday at Powles Funeral Home, officiated by the Rev. Chuck Brawley, pastor of Faith Baptist Church.
Following, the cremated remains will be taken to National Cemetery at 10 a.m.
Born April 23, 1936, in Cabarrus County, he was the son of Myrtle Harwell Howell and the late James Homer Howell.
He was a graduate of J.W. Cannon High School, and a graduate of Salisbury Business College with a degree in accounting.
He was a self-employed accountant, and he was also a disabled veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in the Korean War.
A member of the Mormon faith, Howell was also a member of the Rowan Amateur Radio Society.
He was a Ham Radio Operator WG3H-Extra Class.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Blackwelder Howell, whom he married on May 15, 1964; son, William J. Howell of Salisbury; four daughters, Jamie H. Felker of Lexington, Cindy Starr of Bothell, Wash., Saundra Williams of Van Nuyes, Calif., Susan Kalmuk of Hollywood, Calif.; two brothers, Gary E. Howell of Kannapolis, Billy H. Howell of Winston-Salem; a sister, Mary H. White; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Fallen FDNY Fund, c/o N.C. Credit Union Foundation, P.O. Box 49379, Greensboro, NC 27419.

Mrs. Ruby Petrilla
ALBEMARLE -- Ruby Easley Almond Petrilla, 86, of 13001 Old Statesville Road, Huntersville Oaks, Huntersville, died Sunday, Oct. 14, 2001, at Huntersville Oaks.
Graveside rites will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Fairview Memorial Park.
A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Grace Baptist Church.
The Revs. Sid Martin and Lloyd Hunsucker will officiate.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 at Stanly Funeral Home, Inc.
Born Dec. 12, 1914, in Stanly County, she was the daughter of the late Zebulan and Zula Hathcock Easley.
She was a retired employee of Wiscassett Mill Co. and a member of Grace Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Shellie Thurlo Almond and William Petrilla.
Survivors include a son, Jimmy Almond and his wife Linda of Charlotte; a daughter, Patty Propst and her husband Jimmy of Concord; five sisters, Ramelle McCullough of Macon, Ga., Mildred White of Wytheville, Va., Catherine Henley of Lakeland, Fla., Lynn Harris of Churchville, Pa., and Bobbie Hunsucker of Greensboro; six grandchildren, Jennifer Blackwelder, JoAnna Almond, Tim Propst, Trent Propst, Todd Propst and Sharon Dawson; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Grace Baptist Church at 644 Edgemont St., Albemarle, NC 28001, or to NorthEast Medical Center Foundation for support of Cabarrus College of Health Science at 920 Church St. N., Concord, NC 28025.

Mr. Jerry Baker
CHINA GROVE -- Jerry Wayne Baker, 60, of 405 Ross St., China Grove, died Sunday, Oct. 14, 2001, at Carolinas Medical Center.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at China Grove Church of God.
Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
Pastor of the church, the Rev. Roger Lunsford, will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday, at Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home, in China Grove.
At other times, the family will be at the home on Ross Street.
Born Nov. 17, 1940, in Kannapolis, he was the son of the late Cora Fields Baker and the late Tommy J. Baker.
He was retired from KRC, Inc. in Salisbury.
He was a member and Elder of China Grove Church of God and served in the U.S. Air Force and was retired from the South Carolina Army National Guard.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Jerry W. Baker, who died Aug. 29, 1990, and John David Baker, who died May 18, 1988.
Survivors include his wife, Sandra Miller Baker; two daughters, Deborah L. Baker of Atlanta and Susan K. Baker of Salisbury; two sisters, Olene Williams and Ruby Fuller, both of Canton, Ga.
Mr. Baker's friend, 6-year-old Jamey Spurlin of Mount Ulla, will serve as honorary pallbearer.
Memorials may be made to China Grove Church of God Building Fund at 413 North Franklin St., China Grove, NC 28023.

Mrs. Ruth Beaver
BOONE -- Ruth Berry Beaver, 80, of 299 West Grandview Heights, Boone, and formerly of Landis, died Monday, Oct. 15, 2001, at her home, after declining health for a year and being seriously ill for 6 months.
The funeral will be 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel in Kannapolis.
Entombment will follow the service at West Lawn Memorial Park in China Grove.
The Rev. Bill Roberts will officiate.
Born Feb. 16, 1921, in Greensboro, she was the daughter of the late Willie M. Berry and Bernice Turner Berry.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harrison "Jay" Beaver, who died Dec. 19, 1999.
Survivors include her daughter, Debbie B. Lentz of Boone; two sons, Larry E. Beaver of Clemson, S.C., and Don W. Beaver of Littleton; two sisters, Ruby B. Honeycutt of Landis, and Azile B. Goodwin of Wadesboro; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Watauga County at 136 Furman Road, Boone, NC 28607.

Mrs. Louise Dellinger
KANNAPOLIS -- Louise Deal Dellinger, 86, of Trinity Oaks in Salisbury, and formerly of West 5th Street in Landis, died Monday, Oct. 15, 2001, at Trinity Oaks in Salisbury.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Jackson Park United Methodist Church.
The Rev. Skipper Watwood will officiate.
A graveside service will follow at 2:15 p.m. at Friendship United Methodist Church in Catawba County.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 10:50 a.m. Thursday at Jackson Park United Methodist Church Gymnatorium.
Born Jan. 30, 1915, in Catawba County, she was the daughter of the late Charles H. Deal and Annie Eugenia Cline Deal.
She was a retired beautician and an active member of Jackson Park United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Craig Johnson Dellinger.
Survivors include two sons, James Dellinger and his wife Elizabeth of Hickory, and Jerry Dellinger and his wife Meg of Salisbury; two sisters, Ruby Setzer of Mooresville, and Grace Alley of Sioux City, Iowa; and five grandchildren, Emily Dellinger Mondon and her husband Joel, Jay Dellinger, Craig Dellinger, Brian Dellinger and Matthew Dellinger.
Memorials may be sent to Jackson Park United Methodist Church at 715 Mable Ave., Kannapolis, NC 28083 in memory of Mrs. Dellinger.
Lady's Funeral Home is serving the Dellinger family.

Mr. "Ebb" Jones
CONCORD -- Elbert "Ebb" Rufus Jones, 57, formerly of 304 Griffin Circle, died Friday, Oct. 12, 2001, at NorthEast Medical Center.
The funeral will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Mount Zion Baptist Church in Concord.
Burial will follow at Rutherford Memorial Park.
E.R. Kirkpatrick will officiate, the pastor of Rocky Ridge Missionary Baptist Church.
The wake will be from 2 to 3 p.m. at the church.
At other times, the family will be at 235 Lincoln St. in Concord.
Born May 29, 1944, in Cabarrus County, he was the son of the late Holly Jones and Dorothy Flake.
Survivors include two sisters, Minnie Caldwell and her husband Billie, and Tintina Byrd and her husband Larry, all of Concord; two brothers, Sgt. Calvin Hillie and his wife Tereasa and Preston Hillie and his fiancee Donna of Concord; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Walker Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Mrs. Helen Lambert
STANFIELD -- Helen Lee Lambert, 74, of 9205 Webb Road, Stanfield, died Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2001, at her home.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Indian Hill Presbyterian Church.
Visitation tonight from 6 to 8 at Hartsell Funeral Home in Midland.

Mrs. Nannie Shankle
KANNAPOLIS -- Nannie Baker Shankle, 89, formerly of 806 Beechwood St., Kannapolis, died Sunday, Oct. 14, 2001, at Transitional Health Services of Kannapolis.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Lane Street Church of God.
Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park.
The Rev. Wade Easom will officiate.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 1 to 2 p.m. at Lane Street Church of God.
Born July 14, 1912, in Ashe County, she was the daughter of the late Alvis Eli Baker and the late Wanda Cox Baker.
She was employed with Cannon Mills Co., Plant #4, #2 Spinning Room for 45 years until her retirement in 1972.
She has been a long-time member of the Church of God in Kannapolis, N.C., including Elm Street, Kannapolis West A Street, Fisher Street, and Lane Street Church of God.
Because of her illness she had not been able to attend services since 1996.
She had been a resident of Kannapolis, all but 15 years of her life.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Sylvester Clyde Shankle, who died Sept. 18, 1997.
Survivors include a daughter, Joann Shankle Blanton of Davidson; two sons, Burton Shankle of Davidson and Rev. Clyde Shankle of Dunlap, Tenn.; a sister, Thelma Hurley of Ashe County; three grandsons, Keith Shankle of Kannapolis, Randy Saunders of Concord, and Dennis Saunders of Charlotte; two granddaughters, Kathy Rowan and Cynthia Shankle Bristol, both of Tenn.; four great-grandsons, Kevin Shankle, Rodney Saunders, Dustin Stallings, and Aaron Bristol; and two great-granddaughters, Stephanie Stallings and Audra Bristol.
Memorials may be made to Lane Street Church of God at 2711 Lane St., Kannapolis, NC 28083, or to Diabetes Foundation Services at 1628 E. Morehead St., Charlotte, NC 28207.

SALISBURY -- Infant Cameron Franklin Wall, 2 months, of 8425 Old Concord-Salisbury Rd., Salisbury, died Monday, Oct. 15, 2001, at NorthEast Medical Center.
The funeral will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Landis Baptist Church.
Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park in China Grove.
The Rev. Billy Huneycutt will officiate.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 p.m. at Whitley's Funeral Home.
At other times, they will be at the home on Old Concord-Salisbury Rd.
Born Aug. 20, 2001, in Cabarrus County, he was the son of Chad Franklin Wall and Patsy Marie Turnmire Wall.
In addition to his parents, survivors include two brothers, Samuel Jacob Wall and Chad Dalton Wall, both of the home; grandparents, Samuel Jeffrey Wall of Salisbury, Marilyn Kay Pittman of Kannapolis, and Lola Turnmire of Salisbury; great-grandparents, Mae Belle Swink of China Grove, and Della Turnmire of Kannapolis; and step-grandparents, Junior Pittman and Patricia Ann Morgan.

Mrs. Mary Alexander
CONCORD -- Mary Christine Alexander, 92, of Concord, died Monday, Oct. 15, 2001, at NorthEast Medical Center.
The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Bellefonte Presbyterian Church, Harrisburg.
Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
The Rev. Gregory Davis will officiate.
The family will receive friends at 2 p.m. on Friday at the church.
Born July 17, 1909, in Cabarrus County, she was the daughter of the late Webster and Janie Ingram Miller.
She was a member of Westminster Reformed Presbyterian Church, where she was a missionary and chairman of the social committee.
Survivors include her husband, Nathaniel Alexander; a son, James P. Boone and wife Helen of Piscataway, N.J.; a niece, Brenda Cloud Snead and husband Leon, and a great-niece, Kelli Snead, all of Ocean Township, Md.; a granddaughter, Monique Boone Mayer, of Riverside, Md.; and a host of other family members and friends.
Kelsey Funeral Home of Concord, is in charge of arrangements.
