Mrs. Mildred Locke
NEW LONDON -- Mildred "Mickey" Vanhoy Locke, 78, of 44437 Harper Hearne Road, New London, died Sunday, Oct. 21, 2001, at Stanly Memorial Hospital.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Hartsell Funeral Home in Albemarle.
Burial will follow at Fairview Memorial Park.
The Rev. Kent Little will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at Hartsell Funeral Home in Albemarle.
At other times, the family will be at the home on Harper Hearne Road.
Born June 23, 1923, in Stanly County, she was the daughter of the late Janie Crumpler Vanhoy and Connie Monroe Vanhoy.
She was a retired admitting clerk at Stanly Memorial Hospital.
She was a graduate of Badin School and attended God's Church in Badin, and had a church membership with Craig Avenue Presbyterian Church.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Walston Levi Locke and Jesse David "Puddin" Edwards.
Survivors include a son, David Edwards of New London; a daughter, Susan Edwards of Flat Rock; two sisters, Vivian Harris of Badin and Phyllis Lippard of Kannapolis; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Jerry Norman
CHARLOTTE -- Jerry A. Norman, 64, of Charlotte, passed away Sunday, Oct. 21, 2001.
Funeral services will be noon Wednesday, in the Hankins & Whittington Dilworth Chapel, with Rev. Art Webb and Rev. L.A. Norman officiating.
The interment will follow in Sharon Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
At other times, the family will be at the home of Margie Blackwelder at 700 Patricia Ave., Harrisburg.
A native of Charlotte, Mr. Norman was born Nov. 12, 1936, a son of the late Paul William Norman and Leila May Courtney Norman.
He graduated from East Mecklenburg High School and was a U.S. Army veteran.
Mr. Norman was an extremely talented architectural designer, builder and realtor.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Paul Norman, Jr.
His covenant family includes Margie Blackwelder, Harold and Kim Blackwelder, Albert Blackwelder, Kenny and Donna Blackwelder and children, Joshua, Justin, Michael, Kenneth, and Luke; nephews, Paul and Keith Norman; niece, Donna Norman; aunt, Helen Matthews; aunts and uncles, Lois and Bill Osborne and Rev. L.A. Norman and wife, Mary; and several cousins.

Mr. John Stevenson
CONCORD -- John Henry Stevenson, 97, of 262 Hilltop Ave. S.W., Concord, died Saturday, Oct. 20, 2001, at NorthEast Medical Center.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, at Silver Hill Primitive Baptist Church.
Burial will follow at Rutherford Memorial Park. Elder Thomas Bolton will officiate.
A viewing will be from 1 to 2 p.m. at the church.
Born June 20, 1904, in Cabarrus County, he was the son of the late Tom and Bettie Stevenson.
He worked for Kerr Bleachery for 35 years and was the owner of Peerless Barber Shop.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lela Mae Reid Stevenson.
Survivors include two daughters, Willeen Stevenson of Norristown, Pa., and Mildred Stevenson Harvey of Concord; a son, Eugene Stevenson of Washington, D.C.; a sister-in-law, Evelyn Stevenson of Philadelphia, Pa.; three nieces, Joan Goodman, Mary Blakney, and Mavis Shipp of Concord; 13 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

CONCORD -- Grady Jackson Hartsell, 78, of 106 Woodland Drive, Concord, died Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2001, at NorthEast Medical Center.

Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.

Born Jan. 19, 1923, in Stanly County, he was the son of the late Hanna Morgan Hartsell and the late Burton L. Hartsell.
He was a weaver at Cannon Mills and a veteran.
He was a member of Kerr Memorial Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Nola Liles Hartsell of Concord; his son, Ronnie L. Hartsell and his wife Sue of Rockwell; a daughter, Sherry and her husband Crawford Mullis Jr. of Concord; his sister, Carry Bailey of Troy; and one grandson, Kevin Mullis of Concord.

Mr. Ralph Lineberry
CONCORD -- Ralph Lee Lineberry, 61, of 272 Collingswood Drive, Concord, died Monday, Oct. 22, 2001, at NorthEast Medical Center.
Mr. Lineberry had been in declining health for four years and seriously ill for the past two weeks.
He went to be with his Lord and Savior.
The funeral will be 4 p.m. Thursday at Friendship Freewill Baptist Church in Kannapolis.
Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
DAV Chapter 27 will perform graveside rites.

Born June 16, 1940, in Alamance County, he was the son of the late Swannie Bivens Lineberry and the late Robert A. Lineberry.
He was a truck driver for Terminal Trucking and a veteran of the U.S. Army and Air Force.
He was a member of Friendship Freewill Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by a son, Robert Queen, and a sister, Arnette Black.
Survivors include his wife, Sue Greene Lineberry of Concord; four daughters, Sandy and her husband Gerald Gray of Landis, Kimberly and her husband Steve Holmes, Sherry and her husband Darryl Love, and Lynn and her husband Rick Thompson, all of Concord; two sons, Johnny R. High of the home and Scott Lineberry and his wife Wendy of Concord; a sister, Brenda and her husband Tony Everrette of Mebane; a brother, Bud Lineberry and his wife Pat of Burlington; and nine grandchildren.

KANNAPOLIS -- Elsie Mae McLain Shepherd, 67, formerly of West D Street, Kannapolis, died Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2001, at High Point Regional Medical Center.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Greenlawn Cemetery in China Grove.
The Rev. Coy Privette will officiate.
Born June 25, 1934, in Cabarrus County, she was the daughter of the late Ruben McLain and the late Minnie Kirkland McLain.
She formerly worked at Cabarrus Memorial Hospital as a nursing assistant and was a member of North Kannapolis Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Tamara Renee Shepherd.
Survivors include four children, Michael Shepherd of Germany, Tony Franklin Shepherd of Las Vegas, Nev., and Pamela Shepherd and James M. Shepherd, both of Kannapolis; two brothers, Elbert McLain and James Earl McLain, both of Kannapolis; a sister, Ruby Denzell of Nashville, Tenn.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Mr. Leroy Tickle
KANNAPOLIS -- Leroy Tickle, 81, formerly of 207 Fir Ave., Kannapolis, died Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2001, at the W.G. Hefner V.A. Medical Center in Salisbury, after several years of declining health.
The funeral will be 3:30 p.m. Friday at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel.
Burial will follow in the Kannapolis Cemetery with military rites by the D.A.V. Chapter 27.

Born Nov. 16, 1919, in Cabarrus County, he was the son of the late Roy Daniel Tickle and the late Ethel Pittman Tickle.
He was self-employed as a timber cutter for 18 years until his retirement in 1975.
He attended God's Church of Faith and was a lifetime resident of the area.
He was also a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during World War II.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sadie Swicegood Tickle, who died Jan. 5, 1997.
Survivors include three sons, Michael Tickle and his wife Diane H., and Randy Tickle and his wife Missy G., all of Kannapolis, and Pat Tickle and his wife Robin P. of Concord; two daughters, Sandra McGalliard and her husband Tony of China Grove, and Tammy Williams and her husband Jesse J. of Salisbury; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

NEW LONDON -- Betty Jean Herrin Tucker, 68, of 110 North Oak Street, New London, died Monday, Oct. 22, 2001, at NorthEast Medical Center.

She was a retired sewing machine operator from Richfield Manufacturing, where she worked for 28 years.
She was educated at Millingport School.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hoyle Duncan Tucker, who died in 1989.
Survivors include a daughter, Patsy Iossi and her husband Pete of Spencer; a son, Tommy Tucker and his wife Mickey of Mount Pleasant; a sister, Jewell Efird of Albemarle; a grandson, Michael Cauthen and his wife Crystal of Concord; two great-grandchildren Shane and Breanna Cauthen of Concord; two brothers, Norman Herrin and Rayvon Herrin of Charlotte, and extended family members Jackie and Joe Phifer of Matthews.

CONCORD -- Albert Ernest Wagner, 81, of 820 Siesta Court, Concord, died Thursday, Oct. 18, 2001, at his home.
A memorial service will be held Friday at 5 p.m. at Wilkinson Funeral Home.

Born Dec. 31, 1919, in Johannesburg, South Africa, he was the son of the late Albert and Sarah Wagner.
He attended All Saints Episcopal Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Celeste Black of Concord, with whom he made his home; a son, Marcel Wagner of Henley-on-Thames, England; a grandson, Tristan Wagner Black of Concord.
