Mr. Alonzo Kennedy, Jr.
CONCORD -- Alonzo Kenneth Kennedy, Jr., 54, of 3212 Jessica Road, Concord, died Saturday, November 17, 2001, at Avante At Concord.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at Harmony Baptist Church in Harrisburg.
Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
The Revs. Ronnie Hargett and Robin Blackwelder will officiate.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 at Hartsell Funeral Home in Concord, and at other times, will be at the home.
Born Nov. 19, 1946, in Randolph County, he was the son of the late Etta Cox Kennedy and Alonzo Kenneth Kennedy, Sr.
He was a deputy sheriff for Randolph County, for nine years and was also a self-employed investigator.
He was a member of Harmony Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Glady Lucas.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Wilson Kennedy of Concord; three step-sons, Billy Fields, John Fields and Thomas Fields, all of High Point; a step-daughter, Belinda Mashburn of High Point; and two sisters, Peggy Fuller of Trinity, and Helen Grubb of High Point.
Mr. Emmette Ketner
CONCORD -- Emmette Leon "Humpy" Ketner, 86, of 2452 Rock Hill Church Road and formerly of 299 Cabarrus Ave., Concord, died Saturday, November 17, 2001, at Transitional Health Service.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Wilkinson Funeral Home Chapel.
Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
The Rev. Lonnie Karriker will officiate.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 at Wilkinson Funeral Home and at the home of the son, at 68 Shamrock Drive, at other times.
Born June 27, 1915, in Cabarrus County, Mr. Ketner was the son of the late William Arthur and Nannie Suther Ketner.
He was a retired employee of Widenhouse Brothers Lumber Company.
He was a member of Family of Faith Lutheran Church, and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Mr. Ketner enjoyed fishing and previously played baseball with Cannon Mills Plant 6 baseball team.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Helen Widenhouse Ketner; a daughter, Mrs. Tonya K. Rosman and husband Vaughn of Concord; a son, Garry L. Ketner and wife Shirley of Concord; two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth "Tiss" K. Moose of Concord, Mrs. Joyce K. Baucom of Concord; a brother, William "Runt" Ketner of Concord; four grandchildren, Sherie Jenkins and husband Rick, Rick Ketner and wife Daphne, Brian Nunn and wife Ashley, Scott Nunn and wife Brandy, and 10 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Creola Wade
MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. -- Creola Woodward Wade, 95, of 324 6th Ave., Mount Pleasant, S.C., died Sunday, November 18, 2001, at Sandpiper Convalescent Center.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the J.W. Woodward Memorial Chapel of Spartanburg.
Burial will be at Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mrs. Wade was a native of Spartanburg County.
She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry and Lillie Woodward, Sr.
She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church of Charleston.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. William Wade, Sr.
Mrs. Wade is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Margaret Lesesne of Mount Pleasant; five grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Mr. Harold Blackwelder
MOUNT PLEASANT -- Harold C. "Tuff" Blackwelder, 74, of 1123 Pinecrest Drive, Mount Pleasant, died Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2001 at his home.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Gordon Funeral Home.
Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park in Kannapolis.
The Rev. Earl Barringer will officiate.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 9:30 to 11 a.m. prior to the service.
Born Feb. 22, 1927, in Cabarrus County, Mr. Blackwelder was the son of the late Edward Blackwelder and Mary Morton Blackwelder.
He was retired from Cannon Mills.
Survivors include his wife, Fannie Marie Whitley Blackwelder and brother, Hazel "Shank" Blackwelder of Mount Pleasant.

Mrs. Doris Fesperman
KANNAPOLIS -- Doris Long Fesperman, 69, of 2407 Vale Ave., Kannapolis, died Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2001 at Transitional Health Services of Kannapolis.
A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at New Hope Lutheran Church.
Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park in China Grove.
The Rev. Larry Bost will officiate.

Born March 26, 2001, in Rowan County, she was the daughter of the late Hattie Presley Long and Homer Long.
She graduated from Landis High School and was retired from Cannon Mills Plant 4.
She was a member of New Hope Lutheran Church.
Survivors include her husband, Benjamin F. "Ben" Fesperman; a son, Andy L. Fesperman and wife Sandy of Kannapolis; two daughters, Connie Weaver and husband Robert of Kannapolis, Donna Taylor and husband Roger of Salisbury, and four grandchildren, Chrissy Taylor Walton, Heather Taylor, Benjamin Fesperman and Kimberly Fesperman.

Mr. Gilbert Fields
KANNAPOLIS -- Gilbert Leon Fields, 66, of 4501 Nob Hill Drive, Kannapolis, died Monday, Nov. 19, 2001 at NorthEast Medical Center.
Although he had been in declining health for 15 years, his death was unexpected.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Charity Baptist Church in Kannapolis.
Burial will follow at the Kannapolis City Cemetery.
The Rev. Beaver Hammons will officiate.
The family will receive friends Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Whitley's Funeral Home and at other times, will be at the home of daughter Renee Sanders, 260 Westen Acres Drive, Kannapolis.
Born April 25, 1935, in Cabarrus County, Mr. Fields was the son of the late Julius Fields and Louise Payne Fields.
He was a life long area resident.
He was a "jack-of-all-trades," but primarily a self-employed carpenter.
He was also an ordained minister in the Pentecostal Holiness Church.
He loved music and was very active in several music ministries and was a member of Charity Baptist Church.
He will always be remembered as a compassionate and loving man to everyone he met.
Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Evelyn Kimble Fields of the home; six sons, Michael Fields of Texas, Ricky Fields of Salisbury, Randy Fields of Fayetteville, Troy Fields of Harrisburg, Timothy "Bo" Fields of Charlotte, and Scott Fields of Kannapolis; two daughters, Teresa Wood of China Grove and Renee Sanders of Kannapolis; 26 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Mr. Harold Frye
CONCORD -- Harold Julian Frye, 77, of 430 Brookwood Ave., Concord, died Monday, Nov. 19, 2001, at Universal Heath Care.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Friday at Hartsell Funeral Home Chapel in Concord.
Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.
The Rev. Bill Bauguess will officiate.

Born June 5, 1924, in Cabarrus County, he was the son of the late Penola Brady Frye and James Garland Frye.
Mr. Frye was retired from the U.S. Army and of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Freida Frye.
Survivors include his son, Mr. John Myers, Sr. of Kannapolis; two brothers, Mr. James Robert Frye of Wallace, and Billy Ray Frye, Sr. of Concord; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Mr. Charles Loving
MIDLAND -- Charles Edgar Loving, 65, of 12095 Loving Road, Midland, died Monday, Nov. 19, 2001, at NorthEast Medical Center.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Hartsell Funeral Home in Midland.
Burial will follow at Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery.
The Rev. Lewis Whittington will officiate.

Born June 24, 1936, in Cabarrus County, Mr. Loving was the son of the late Doris Stapp and Charles Edgar Loving, Sr.
He was the owner and operator of Loving Farms and a truck driver.
He was a 10-year veteran of the U.S. Air Force and a member of Bethel United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Diana Wolfe Loving; daughter, Annette and husband John Gunter of Jonesville; sister, Lucy Alice Jarvis of Washington; two brothers, Boody and wife Diana Loving of Midland, and Larry Loving of Washington; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; five nephews, one is serving in active military duty; four nieces and several great-nephews, nieces and many friends.

Mrs. Doris Overcash
KANNAPOLIS -- Doris Plyler Overcash, 75, formerly of Kannapolis, died Sunday, Nov. 18, 2001, at Britthaven of Charlotte, following eight years of declining health.
A memorial service will be conducted at a later date.
Born Aug. 11, 1926, in Iredell County, she was the daughter of the late Edward D. Plyler and Edna Plyler Plyler.
She was formerly employed in the weave room of Cannon Mills.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Merle Overcash.
Survivors include her son, Gerald S. Simpson of Clover, S.C.; her brother, Clark Plyler of El Paso, Texas; six sisters, Lorene Deal of China Grove, Lucille Christy, Margie Hartsell and Joyce Brown, all of Cleveland, Wilma Stone of Charlotte, and Bonnie Whitman of Harrisburg; and three grandchildren, Pandora Elizabeth Simpson, Caroline Simpson and Steven Simpson.

CONCORD -- James Augustus Poplin, 90, of 1620 Irish Potato Road, Concord, died Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2001, at his home.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. today at Carolina Memorial Park.
The Rev. Mark Eudy will officiate.
The family received friends last night at Hartsell Funeral Home of Concord.
Born Dec. 9, 1910, in Stanly County, he was the son of the late Betty Burris Poplin and Timothy Augustus Poplin.
He was a tie cutter at Collins and Aikman and of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Lillie Maxwell Poplin of the home.
