Mr. Tony Cook
HUNTERSVILLE -- Tony Curtis Cook, 46, of 15033 Ranson Road, Huntersville, died Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2001, at his home. His death was unexpected.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Zion Freewill Baptist Church in Kannapolis. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. The Rev. Vaudry Tucker will officiate.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Whitley's Funeral Home.
Born Nov. 14, 1955, in Lancaster, S.C., he was the son of the late Pearlie Junior Cook and the late Bernice Hinson Cook. He was raised and went to school in Monroe. He moved to the Huntersville area five years ago. He was an insurance salesman and a licensed evangelist with the United Christian Church. He was a member of Zion Freewill Baptist Church in Kannapolis.
Mr. Cook was preceded in death by a sister, Doris.
Survivors include his wife, Dianne Branscom Cook of the family home; step-son, William Craig Jr. of Salisbury; brother, Jerry Cook of Charleston, S.C.; sister, Peggy Norkett of Monroe; three aunts, Estaleen Graham and Leona Jenkins, both of Aynor, S.C. and Credelle Robinson of Garden City, S.C.; and an uncle, Bob Cook of Charleston, S.C.

Mrs. Dolores Reynolds
Dolores W. Reynolds, 54, of Sullivan County, died Friday, Dec. 7, 2001, at Johnson City Medical Center.
The funeral will be at 4 p.m. Sunday at Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home Chapel in Jonesborough, Tenn. The Rev. Gary Harless will officiate.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday.
She was the daughter of Zelma Dolores Kester Williams of Gate City, Va. and the late Grover McDonald Williams. She was a medical transcriptionist and a homemaker.
Survivors, in addition to her mother, are her husband, Owen Lee Watts; a son, Billy "B.J." Reynolds of Tampa; a daughter, Ginger R. Johnson of New Bern; a brother, Joe Floyd Williams of Gate City; and a grandson, Henry Owen Johnson of New Bern.

Mr. Donald Whitley
STANFIELD -- Donald Harold Whitley, 53, of 201 Love St., Stanfield, died Friday, Dec. 7, 2001.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Hartsell Funeral Home, Midland. Burial will follow at Community Baptist Church Cemetery, Locust, with Masonic Graveside Rites. The Rev. Tim Kendall and the Rev. Tom Zeigler will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at the funeral home. At other times, they will be at the home on 201 Love St., Stanfield.
Born March 11, 1948, in Stanly County, he was the son of the late Julian Whitley. He worked as a truck driver for Lance Packing Co. He was a member of Union Lodge #618 AF & AM of Midland.
Survivors include his wife, Kay Hartsell Whitley; his mother, Annie Belle Huneycutt Whitley of Oakboro; two daughters, Wanda Yow and Patty Whitley, both of Stanfield; a son, Randy Whitley of Oakboro; a sister, Tammy Pinion of Oakboro; a brother, Malcolm Whitley of Concord; and five grandchildren.

Mrs. Hilda Champion
CONCORD -- Hilda Fields Champion, 92, of Cox Mill Road, Concord, died Saturday, Dec. 8, 2001, at NorthEast Medical Center.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel in Kannapolis. Burial will follow at 2 p.m. at Elmwood Cemetery, Charlotte. The Rev. Billy Honeycutt will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at Lady's Funeral Home.
Born June 15, 1909, in Goldston, she was the daughter of the late Robert M. Fields, M.D., and Opie Anna Elkins Fields. She was retired from the Charlotte Radiological Group and was a member of Landis Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Blaine Everette Champion who died Oct. 21, 1980.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Miriam C. Hart and husband Horace G. Hart of Concord, and Mrs. Jean C. Price and husband Randy Price of Little River, S.C.; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Ruth Lee
KANNAPOLIS -- Ruth Gades Hancock Lee, 80, of 605 E. 12th St., Kannapolis, died Friday, Dec. 7, 2001, at NorthEast Medical Center.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel in Kannapolis. The Rev. John Ontko will officiate. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park, China Grove.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the funeral home.
Born March 26, 1921, in Stanly County, she was the daughter of the late Archie Hancock and Minnie Lee Hancock. She was a homemaker, a loving mother and grandmother, and a resident of the area for most of her life. She will be missed dearly by her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Melvin Lee, who died Dec. 19, 1980.
Survivors include two daughters, Melba Kramer of China Grove, and Brenda Jordan of Kannapolis; three sons, Archie B. Lee, Gary D. Lee and James (Bo) Lee, all of Kannapolis; one brother, Fred Hancock of Norwood; one sister, Carol Sanders of Albemarle; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Mr. Brady Wise
SALISBURY -- Brady Wise, 81, of Goodnight Road, Salisbury, died Sunday, Dec. 9, 2001, at his home.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Salem Lutheran Church. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. The Rev. Clarence Sifford and Dr. William Johnson will officiate.

Born June 4, 1920, in Rowan County, he was the son of the late Dora Neal and Lonnie Wise. He attended Rowan County Schools. He was retired from the Cannon Mills, plant 1, #6 Weave Room in Kannapolis, after 45 years of employment. He was a member of Salem Lutheran Church. Mr. Wise was a man close to his family who loved the Lord. He was very close to nature and loved to farm, and he especially loved his dogs and cows.
Survivors include his wife, Mattie (Till) Belk Wise; three sons, Phillip Wise and wife Jan of Salisbury; Steve Wise and wife Wanda of Fincastle, Va.; and Randy Dale Wise of Salisbury; two sisters, Sara Liverman of Kannapolis, and Ruby Ingle of Salisbury; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Edna Glosson
KANNAPOLIS -- Edna Kennington Glosson passed away on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2002, at the age of 91.
She was born June 12, 1910, in Lancaster, S.C., the daughter of the late Leila Todd and Roach Hazel Kennington. She was the wife of the late Charlie William Glosson to whom she was married for 56 years until his death in 1996.
Valedictorian of her class, Edna graduated from Lowell High School and later received her bachelor of arts degree from Catawba College and a master's degree in education from Appalachian State University. She was an educator in the Kannapolis City and Mecklenburg County school systems for more than 32 years, serving at various times as teacher, guidance counselor and principal.
Edna was a life member of the Women's Society of Christian Service in Kannapolis, and was also the president of the Clarice Women's Club, and served as Superintendent of Sunday School for 15 years. She was president of the local Chapter of the Red Cross, Founder and president of the Young at Heart Senior Citizens Group at Dunlin's Grove Christian Advent Church, and started the drive that led to the formation of children's summer playground activities at Clear Creek School, soliciting the Governor's backing to insure the program's establishment. She represented Mecklenburg County at the Mother of the Year Awards held in Raleigh, was president of the E.H. Club in Mecklenburg County, for 10 years, and president of the local Teacher's N.C.E.A. group.
Edna is survived by her daughter, Martha Glosson Howard of Charlotte; her son, Ronald Kennington Glosson of Barrington, R.I.; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel at Carolina Memorial Park Gardens in Concord, with entombment to follow in the mausoleum. The family will receive friends from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel.

Mrs. Faye Griggs
KANNAPOLIS -- Faynell (Faye) Grayson Griggs died at home on Jan. 5, 2002, following an extended illness. Mrs. Griggs was born in Kannapolis, North Carolina to the late Lina Dwiggins Grayson and the late X.E. Grayson.
Mrs. Griggs graduated from J.W. Cannon High School in 1942. She began work as a time keeper in #7 weave room at Cannon Mills and later served as secretary to the Director of the Cost Department for 15 years. After raising her sons, she returned to work as a hostess and tour guide at Cannon Village Visitor Center.
A member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Mrs. Griggs served in many capacities over the years. She taught the Junior High Sunday School Class and was president of the Ruth Kale Sunday School Class. She worked in the Kindergarten Sunday School Class for 34 years, co-chaired the Pictorial Directory Committee, and served on the Finance Committee, Administrative Board and Worship Committee. She had an avid interest in needlework and dedicated significant time in helping to create the needlepoint kneelers around the altar and in making the Crismons, which are used on the church's Christmas tree each year. Mrs. Griggs also was a den mother for the Cub Scouts at Kimball Lutheran Church.
Mrs. Griggs is survived by her husband of 48 years, George William Griggs, Sr.; her two sons, George William (Bill) Griggs, Jr. and his wife Jane of Matthews, and Eugene (Gene) Steven Griggs and his wife Julie of Charlotte; four grandchildren, Paul William Griggs, Margaret Catherine Griggs, Mary Elizabeth Griggs, and George William Griggs, III; three sisters, Dot Caton, B.J. Kincaid, and Phyllis Watson, all of Kannapolis.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Hoyt Grayson.
The family will receive friends in the church parlor of Trinity United Methodist Church from 1 to 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, with a service to celebrate her life to follow at 3 p.m. It will be conducted by longtime friend, Sarah G. Weaver and the Rev. Don Shuman. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.

Mr. Robert "Rabbitt" Harrington
KANNAPOLIS -- Robert Lee Harrington, born April 20, 1915, well-known as "Rabbitt" of 515 Spring Garden Ave., Kannapolis, N.C., went home to meet Jesus on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2002.
He was the son of the late Elijah Thomas Harrington and Mary Estelle Starnes Harrington which have also gone on to glory. "Rabbitt" was one of nine children, five boys and four girls, of which two are still living. A sister, Missouri Doster of Denver, N.C., age 94 and a brother, J.T. Harrington of Kannapolis, N.C., age 84.
Rabbitt and Mary are the proud parents of six dear children, all living in Kannapolis. There are three girls: Bobbie Durham; Dee Bost and husband, Dan; and Nancy Clark and husband, Mike. Three sons: Robert "Boobie" Harrington and wife, Carolyn; Tommy Harrington and wife, Linda; and Charles Harrington and wife, Gail.
Rabbitt will also be deeply missed by 13 grandchildren: Robin Ewing, Wendy Brown, Tonya Hicks, Wayne Harrington, Kelly Durham, Audy Harrington, Crystal Barringer, Eric Harrington, Phil Harrington, Rodney Harrington, Larry Harrington, Mica Thomas and Natalie Clark. He is also survived by 24 precious great-grandchildren along with special grand-in-laws. All of whom are considered to be a part of a close, loving and Christian family because of these characteristics and his outgoing personality, many family members and friends will have fond memories to cherish always.
Rabbitt served his country as a member of the U.S. Army. He was employed by Cannon Mills Company for 30 years and later went to work with Duke Power Company until his retirement in 1975. He was a charter and faithful member of Homestead Baptist Church. Many will remember "Rabbitt" as someone who always made time to stop and talk. He never met a stranger and he was always willing to lend a helping hand. He was truly a man that made a difference in the lives of the people that he encountered.
The funeral service arrangements will be as follows: Receiving of friends will be at Homestead Baptist Church, 107 W. 22nd Street, Kannapolis, N.C., from 6 until 9 p.m. Monday, Jan. 7, 2002. The funeral service will be at the church Tuesday at 2 p.m. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. At all other times, the family will be at the residence.
Reverend and pastor Terry Brown along with Rev. Johnnie Morton will officiate the service. Honorary preachers will be Rev. Buck Cannup, Rev. Ted Davis, Rev. Curt Davis, Rev. Todd Hamilton, Rev. Gurney Harrelson, Rev. Richard Horn, Rev. Curtis Parker, Edward Fowler and Rev. Marler Starnes. Pallbearers will be his grandsons.

Mrs. Mary Honeycutt
CHINA GROVE -- Mary Mullis Honeycutt, 84, of 212 W. Church Street, China Grove, died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2002, at Liberty Commons Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Salisbury.
The funeral will be 8 p.m. Tuesday at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel.
Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park on Wednesday at 2 p.m. The Revs. Sam Crisp and Craven Chavis will officiate.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lady's Funeral Home.
At other times, they will be at the home of a daughter, Betty F. Wilson, at 1230 Dial Street in Kannapolis.
Born Jan. 29, 1917, in Rowan County, she was the daughter of the late Marshall James Mullis and the late Minnie Troutman Mullis.
Mrs. Honeycutt retired 20 years ago from the Number 2 Spinning Room of Cannon Mills, Plant One in Kannapolis, where she was employed for more than 45 years.
She attended Kannapolis West A Church of God. She formerly attended Independence Square Freewill Baptist Church, where her late husband, the Rev. J.C. Honeycutt served as pastor.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two husbands, Eugene James Fritz, and the Rev. John C. Honeycutt; a daughter, Hazel Fritz Helms; and a grandson, Tyron McDaniels.
Survivors include three daughters, Evelene F. Woodard and Betty F. Wilson, both of Kannapolis, and Dorothy F. Thomas of China Grove; a son, Floyd D. Fritz of Aberdeen, N.C.; a sister, Ruth James of Landis; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Survivors also include several nieces and nephews, and special friends Craven and Linda Chavis.
