Mrs. Lois Lanaghan
CONCORD -- Lois Ann Guyeske Lanaghan, 65, of 651 Main Street, Concord, died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2002, at NorthEast Medical Center.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home in China Grove.
Burial will follow at Sunset Cemetery in Kannapolis. The Rev. Bobby Bailey will officiate.

Born June 30, 1936, in Elyria, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Helen O'Neil Guyeske and Herman Guyeske.
She was educated in Elyria Schools and a member of Solid Rock Baptist Church. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Jack Leroy Lanaghan of Concord; two sons, Lenny Lanaghan of China Grove, and Jack Lanaghan, Jr. of Kannapolis; two daughters, Kathy Cole of China Grove, and Patty Covak of N. Olmstead, Ohio; a brother, Bob Guyeske of N. Ridgeville, Ohio; a sister, Lila Beckloff of Elyria, Ohio; and four grandchildren.

Mrs. Nancy Laney
MATTHEWS -- Nancy Ruth Holcomb Laney, 77, of Matthews, passed away Monday, Jan. 7, 2002, at the Smith Nursing Center in Monroe.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Siler Presbyterian Church.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the McEwen Funeral Home in Monroe.
Mr. Jim Ledbetter
NEWTON -- James T. "Jim" Ledbetter, 74, of 615 South College Avenue, Newton, passed away Sunday, Jan. 6, 2002, at Frye Regional Medical Center.
Born April 13, 1927, in Rockingham County, he was the son of the late Fred D. and Jessie Martin Ledbetter.
Jim has resided in Newton, N.C. for the past 55 years.
He came to the Unifour in 1947 to play baseball for the Newton-Conover Twins professional team.
It was during this time that he met his wife, the former Aileen Delores (Dee) Jones.
He worked for General Electric's Distribution Transformer Department in Hickory for 32 years as a Master Maintenance Mechanic, specializing in welding and fabrication. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a member of the Merchant Marines and N.C. National Guard.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Newton.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Fred Ray "Buddy" Ledbetter.
Jim grew up hunting and fishing, developing a love of the outdoors, which he shared with all he came in contact with.
Without a doubt, he came to love fishing, especially largemouth bass fishing.
He shared his love for fishing on his program, "The Piedmont Sportsman," which aired on WHKY-TV, UFH Channel 14 in Hickory, N.C. for years.
Later his show could be seen on Catawba Valley Cable Systems and other cable systems in the Piedmont area.
Outside of his TV show, Jim gave seminars on bass fishing to community groups, spoke at boat shows and bass clubs and sponsored in-store promotions for various equipment suppliers.
Youth organizations such as the Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, 4-H clubs and youth bass clubs were special focus of his efforts and his contributions.
While Jim did fish competitively on the Pro Bass Circuit, his primary motivation was to get people of all ages and backgrounds interested in fishing. Through the years, Jim has sponsored or organized many events targeted directly at increasing the awareness of and excitement about fishing. The most significant of the events is the annual American Cancer Society Buddy Bass Tournament, started 15 years ago. Over the years, this tournament has raised in excess of $500,000 for cancer research. He has also been recognized by the Boy Scouts of America, the Girl Scouts of America, the North Carolina Wildlife Federation, and was currently serving on the Board of Directors of the Hickory Metro Sports Authority.
urvivors include his wife, Delores Jones Ledbetter of Newton; a son, James T. "Tom" Ledbetter Jr. of Pittsboro, N.C.; a daughter, Cathy E. Ledbetter of Gastonia; four sisters, Mary Sue Joyce of Stoneville, N.C., Louise Atwood of Mayodan, N.C., Loretta Groome of Thomasville, and Dot Mills of Mary Ester, Fla.; four grandchildren, Cassie A. Tate of Hickory; Justin T. Ledbetter, Kristen A. Ledbetter, and Erin M. Ledbetter, all of Pittsboro, N.C.; one great-grandchild, Bryanna T. Rosario of Orlando, Fla.; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Dr. Joseph Welker and Rev. Cythina Williams will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Willis-Reynolds Funeral Home in Newton.
Honorary pallbearers will be Rob Digh, Doug Spencer, Mac Byrum, Charlie Simmons, Al Dutton, Ray Reaves, Bryan McRee and Hossie Stroud.

Mr. Miles Moss
KANNAPOLIS -- Miles West Moss, 84, of 1204 Lane Street, Kannapolis, died Monday, Jan. 7, 2002, at NorthEast Medical Center.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel.
Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
The Rev. Skipper Watwood will officiate.

Born Aug. 10, 1917, in Catawba County, he was the son of the late Stamey Enoch Moss and Nannie Lou Brown Moss.
He was an active member of Jackson Park United Methodist Church for over 50 years.
He was retired from Blazer Financial Services after working over 20 years, retiring in 1979, where he was a finance manager.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy from World War II.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Bertha Braswell Moss; a son, Michael West Moss of Germany; a daughter, Cherie Milene Moss of Concord; two grandchildren, Kyra M. Moss and Sawyer Moss; and a brother, Marshall Moss of Taylorsville.

Mrs. Faye Abernathy
KANNAPOLIS -- Faye Hendren Abernathy, 94, formerly of 428 S. Main St., Kannapolis, died Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2002, at Universal Healthcare.
The funeral will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The Revs. David Myers, Jim Abernathy and Coy Privette will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Saturday. At other times, they will be at the home of her daughter on 428 Main St.
Born Feb. 13, 1907, in Iredell County, she was the daughter of the late Hicks Hendren and Pearl Baker Hendren. She had worked at Cannon Mills Company and retired from Kannapolis City Schools Food Service at Aycock School in 1984. She was an active member of North Kannapolis Baptist Church for many years and she loved working in her garden and growing beautiful flowers.
Mrs. Abernathy was preceded in death by her husband, James Fred Abernathy, who died in 1959, and two sons, James W. (Bill) Abernathy in 2001 and Paul Abernathy in 1971.
Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Ann Hardin and her husband Melvin of Kannapolis; a sister, Ann Dellinger of Hiddenite, N.C.; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

MIDLAND -- Minnie Idell Connell Eudy, 85, of 4316 Whitetail Lane, Midland, died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2002, at her home.

Born Nov. 25, 1916, in Union County, she was the daughter of the late Salley Nettie Page Connell and William Marshall Connell. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church in Midland, where she was active as a Sunday School teacher and other activities.
Survivors include her husband, James Robert Eudy of Midland; a son, David R. Eudy of Midland; a daughter, Rite E. Short and her husband Dan of Midland; a sister, Cora Burr of Denton; and three grandchildren, Jason Short, Amy Short and Kenza Wingate.

KANNAPOLIS -- A memorial service for Victor Bradshaw Holland, Jr. will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church.

Mr. Holland is survived by his wife, Fran Black Holland; a daughter, Sarannett Holland Shelton; a son, Victor Bradshaw Holland, III; a step-daughter, Janet Ward Black; a step-son, Baxter Franklin Black, III; three grandchildren, Victor Holland, IV, Hollie Shelton and Brad Shelton; four step-grandchildren, Frances Black Delgatty, Franklin Black, Walter Davidson and Clay Davidson; and two great-grandchildren, Justin Shelton and Brandon Shelton.

Mr. Hoyle Rodgers
KANNAPOLIS -- Hoyle Brown Rodgers, 81, of 808 East 22nd St., Kannapolis, died Jan. 10, 2002, at his residence after a declining illness.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home Chapel in Landis. The Rev. Jim Harris of Salisbury, will officiate. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery in China Grove.
Pallbearers include Steve Absher, Jerry Gardner, Luther Williams, James Houck, Earl Cline and Leonard Ewing.
Special eulogy will be given by Larry Wayne Corriher, Jr., a grandson.

Mr. Rodgers was born Feb. 10, 1920, in Rowan County, the son of the late Luke Rodgers and the late Minnie Rodgers. He was a member of Landis First United Methodist Church and graduated from Landis High School.
Mr. Rodgers served in the U.S. Army during World War II with the 749th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Gun Battalion, serving his country proudly from 1944 to 1946. A decorated veteran, he served at the Battle of the Bulge with General Patton in the 3rd Army Heavy Artillery. He received three battle mission stars, World War II Victory Medal and the Purple Heart.
Proud to proclaim his love for Jesus Christ, Hoyle loved to quote scripture and witness to everyone he came in contact with. He will be missed by everyone who knew him.
He was employed with Cannon Mills for many years, then worked as a gate security guard for Wackenhut, then Barton Security Services with Pillowtex until his death.
Past Master of Eureka lodge of China Grove, he was a member of the Woodmen of the World. He was a member of the National Rifle Association and a believer in the right to bear arms.
Mr. Rodgers is predeceased by his wife, Caroline Reavis Rodgers, and a daughter, Carolyn Diane Rodgers Corriher.
Survivors include a son, Donald H. Rodgers and wife Sharon of Kannapolis; grandchildren, Larry Corriher Jr. and wife Teresa of Cleveland, Tenn., Robert Corriher and wife Kim of Hickory, and Rhonda Propst of Kannapolis; four great-grandchildren, Daniel Corriher, Brittany Corriher, and Jayla Clark, all of Cleveland, Tenn., and Shelby Corriher of Hickory; a sister, Ishmael Gardner and husband J.C. of Kannapolis; friend and special companion Beulah Williams of Concord; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Alice York Baker
PALM BEACH -- Alice Yorke Baker, 94, of Palm Beach Florida, died Saturday, Dec. 22, 2001.
Born in Concord, she was the daughter of Pearl Thompson Yorke and Aaron Jones Yorke. She lived in Jacksonville Fla., during the 1920s. Mrs. Baker spent most of her life in New York City. While remaining a true southerner, she had a vital engagement with New York life, particularly through her work at the Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John D. Baker, who died in 1992 and a brother, Aaron Jones Yorke III.
Survivors include three daughters, Barbara Baker Mallory, of Wilson, Wyo., Alice Baker Cullen, of Villanova, Pa., and Joan Brooks Baker, of Sante Fe, N.M.; step-sister, Lucy Callery of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held in the spring in Concord, and in Jacksonville. In lieu of flowers, friends may make memorial contributions to the Womens Association of the Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church, 7 West 55 St. New York NY 10019.
