Mrs. Faye Blackwelder
CHINA GROVE -- Faye Virginia Plott Blackwelder, 87, of 304 South Myrtle St., China Grove, and formerly of 912 Union St. South, Concord, died Monday, Jan. 14, 2002, at NorthEast Medical Center.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Hartsell Funeral Home in Concord.
Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park in Kannapolis.
The Rev. Loyd Ginn will officiate.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Hartsell Funeral Home in Concord.
At other times, they will be at the home on Myrtle Street in China Grove.
Born Sept. 18, 1914, in Concord, she was the daughter of the late Lille Rosetta Widenhouse Plott and Adolphus O. "D.O." Plott.
She was a retired Cabarrus County School teacher and a member of St. Martin Lutheran Church.
She was a 1936 graduate of Appalachian University.
She taught in Cabarrus County, for 38 years and throughout her lifetime was active in her church.
Mrs. Blackwelder was preceded in death by her husband, D. Hugh Blackwelder.
Survivors include her son, D.H. Blackwelder, III and his wife Judy of Spartanburg, SC; two daughters, Rosetta Everhart and her husband David L. of China Grove, and Virginia Gaye St. John and her husband Jim L. of Kannapolis; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by a sister-in-law and several nieces and nephews.

BESSEMER, Ala. -- Arthur B. Clark, 72, of Bessemer, Ala., died Friday, Jan. 11, 2002, at home.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Peoples Chapel Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Crestview Memorial Gardens.
The family received friends last night at the funeral home.
Mr. Clark was the son of the late Charles Edward Clark, Sr. He was a self-employed painter for 50 years and was retired. He was a member of the American Legion and V.F.W.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Clark of Bessemer, Ala.; two daughters, Michelle Harris of Bessemer, Ala. and Jane Clark of Birmingham, Ala.; a son, Dane Clark; two sisters, Martha Raynor and her husband Charles of Clinton, N.C. and Ruth Shaffer and her husband Charles of Concord, N.C.; two brothers, Melvin Clark and his wife Mary and Charles Clark, Jr. and his wife Corrine, all of Concord, N.C.; three grandchildren, Anna, Shauna, and Justin Morris, all of Bessemer, Ala.; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Jane DeBiase
CONCORD -- Jane Dice DeBiase, of 781 Union Street South, Concord, died Monday, Jan. 14, 2002, at NorthEast Medical Center.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Martin Lutheran Church. Burial will follow at Cabarrus Memorial Gardens. The Revs. Loyd Ginn and T.C. Plexico will officiate.

Born in Jersey Shore, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Charles C. and Esther Irish Dice. She was a member of St. Martin Lutheran Church, of the W.E.L.C.A., of the Eastern Star, and of the Garden Club. She was also a volunteer with Cabarrus Cooperative Christian Ministries and with Jimmy Murphy's Christmas meals.
Mrs. DeBiase was preceded in death by her husband, Ben DeBiase, who died in 1997.
Survivors include a son, W. Jeffrey Sechrist and his wife Nancy of Matthews; a sister, Mary Lou Schiavo of Charlotte; four grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and a number of nieces and nephews.

ATLANTA, Ga. -- Rev. Jack Hill, 75, of 3493 Ashwood Lane, Atlanta, Ga., died Monday, Jan. 14, 2002, at the Emory University Hospital.
The funeral will be 8 p.m. Thursday in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home with ministers Dr. D. Steven Meyerhoff and Rev. William D. Hyers officiating. A graveside service and interment will be at 10 a.m. Friday in the Happy Valley Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday.
Rev. Hill was a former pastor of First Baptist Church in Concord, N.C., from 1968 to 1974.

Mr. Buck Pinyan
CHINA GROVE -- Wilbert Dewey "Buck" Pinyan, 83, of 1630 Lentz Road, China Grove, died Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2002, at Rowan Regional Medical Center.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. The Rev. Curtis Parker will officiate.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 8 p.m. at Lady's Funeral Home. At other times, they will be at the home on Lentz Road.
Born May 13, 1918, in Mecklenburg County, he was adopted by the late James Alexander Pinyan and Benita Pinyan. He was a retired employee of Cannon Mills, Plant 1 Instrument Department Welding Shop and a member of Central Baptist Church. He was also a veteran of World War II having served in the Army Air Corp.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret Fox Pinyan; a daughter, Brenda Pinyan Berry and her husband Donald of China Grove; three grandchildren, Donald Berry Jr. of Kannapolis, Jennifer Berry of Kannapolis, and Sharon L. Harvell and her husband Jeffery of Faith; and one great-grandchild, Cameron Harvell of Faith.

LANDIS -- Lola Jean Cumberledge Smith, 67, of Landis, N.C., died Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2002, at Rowan Regional Medical Center in Salisbury, following a period of declining health.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel in Kannapolis. The Rev. David Franks will officiate. Cremation will follow the service.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at Whitley's Funeral Home. At other times, they will be at the home in Landis.
Born Nov. 17, 1934, in Crossroads, W.V., she was the daughter of the late Leroy Cumberledge and the late Fern Haught Cumberledge. She will be remembered as a loving mother and homemaker. She was a member of the First Reformed Church of Landis, and a 1953 graduate of Clay Battle High School in Blacksville, WV. She and her husband have been residents of Landis, for the last 27 years after moving to Landis, Sept. 13, 1974.
Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by two sisters, Susan Parson of Pine Bank, and Margaret Haught of Brave, Pa.; three brothers, Howard Cumberledge of Pittsburgh, Pa., Jack Cumberledge and Gary Cumberledge, both of Brave, Pa.; and her husbands parents, Lucretia and John Thomas Smith of Waynesburg, Pa.
Survivors include her husband of 27 years, Joseph Still Smith, whom she married on June 1, 1956; a daughter, Melinda Smith Brown of Mooresville; a son, Michael Downey Smith and his wife Pamela of Cary, NC; four sisters, Dorothy Tennant of Wadestown, W.V., Kathryn Tennant of Wickliffe of Ohio, June Evans of Brave, Pa., and Glenda Wood of Pittsburgh, Pa.; two grandsons, Matthew Karl Brown and William Joseph Brown, both of Mooresville; and two granddaughters, Taylor Noel Smith and Rachel Jean Smith, both of Cary, NC. She is also survived by two sister-in-laws, Johnella Capelli of N. Chareoi, Pa., and Beatrice Ankrom of Washington, Pa.

Mrs. Denise Clontz
CONCORD — Denise Holliday Clontz, 36, of 3903 Summerhill Court, Concord, died Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2002, at Carolinas Medical Center surrounded by her family after a 9--month battle with cancer.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Parkwood Baptist Church in Concord. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The Revs. Darrell Coble and Steve Davis will officiate.

Born Feb. 10, 1965, in Charlotte, she was the daughter of Richard C. and Bonnie F. Holliday of Huntersville. She was a 1983 graduate of East Mecklenburg High School and a 1987 graduate of Winthrop College. She was employed as the Activities Coordinator of Huntersville Oaks -- Brookwood. Denise knew and loved the Lord and was an active member of Parkwood Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, survivors include her husband, Billy L. Clontz; her daughter, Ashley Nicole; her stepson, Alan; her sister, Kim Blackwelder and husband Dan of Huntersville; her father and mother-in-law, Tommy and Sara Freeman; her brother--in--law, Frankie Clontz, all of Concord; and two nieces, Brittany and Megan Blackwelder of Huntersville.
Denise was a devoted wife and mother and will be sorely missed by all who knew her.
