Mr. Duck Mullis
KANNAPOLIS -- James "Duck" Mullis, of 205 Dale Ave., Kannapolis, born Nov. 12, 1923, traded his sick, earthly body for his glorified one on Jan. 19, 2002.
He was the son of C.F. and Betty Mullis, who have also gone to their Heavenly home. Duck was one of seven children, of which three are still living. A sister, Hilda Bradley of Mint Hill, and two brothers, Harold "Bud" Mullis and Grady Mullis of Kannapolis.
"Duck" is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Juanita Mull Mullis; three sons, Cameron "Cam" Mullis and wife Beverly of Jacksonville, Fla., Stanley "Stan" Mullis and wife Dixie of San Leon, Texas, and Scott Mullis and wife Kellie of Kannapolis; two step-children, Mike Clark and wife Nancy of Kannapolis, and Barbara Asay and husband David of Chapel Hill, N.C. Additions to his family are nine grandchildren, Mica Thomas, Natalie Clark, Serena Mullis, C.J. Mullis, Jeremy Mullis, Lauren Asay, Whitney Mullis, Alana Brooke Asay, and Kristina Mullis.
"Duck" was a man of loving character, never ashamed to show emotion. He was strong when need be and yet humble at the same time. He worked hard to support his family through the years and never let them lack for anything. By his humble spirit, he has left a great example for his family and others to follow.
He was educated at McIver School in Kannapolis, and was an active member of Central Baptist Church. He served the U.S. Army as a member of the 825th Engineer Aviation Company for four years during World War II, serving in the European Theater. He was employed by Cannon Mills as an overseer in wet finishing department until his retirement in 1981 due to his declining health.
His family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at Whitley's Funeral Home. At other times, the family will be gathered at the home.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Central Baptist Church on 1810 Moose Road in Kannapolis. Rev. Curtis Parker will officiate with special remarks by Nathen Blackwelder. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the D.A.V. Post #27 of Cabarrus County.

Mr. Ned Mullis
MOUNT PLEASANT -- Robert Nelson "Ned" Mullis, 69, of 965 Lentz Harness Shop Road, Mount Pleasant, died Sunday, Jan. 20, 2002, at NorthEast Medical Center.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Mount Olive Lutheran Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The Rev. Howard Baker will officiate.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hartsell Funeral Home in Concord.
Born Nov. 19, 1932, in Cabarrus County, he was the son of the late Faye Colon Thomas Mullis and Brady Pernay Mullis. He was a music teacher and the retired founder of Mullis Music and a member of Mount Olive Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his wife, Lonia Peggy Mullis of Mount Pleasant; a son, Randy Mullis of Mount Pleasant; three daughters, Teresa Eudy of Mint Hill, Debbie Mullis of Concord, and Angie Mullis of Locust; two sisters, Kay Smith of Mount Pleasant, and Diane Fisher of Charlotte; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Mr. Larry Munson
CONCORD -- Larry Wayne Munson, 57, of 2354 Munson Road, Concord, died Saturday, Jan. 19, 2002, at NorthEast Medical Center.
The funeral will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Hartsell Funeral Home Chapel in Concord. Burial will follow at West Concord Cemetery. The Rev. James Smith will officiate.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Concord. At other times, the family will be at the home on Munson Road.
Born March 14, 1944, in Cabarrus County, he was the son of the late Fronties William Munson and Yoular Medlin Munson of Concord. He was a retired fabricator from Moss Supply in Charlotte, and a member of Highland Baptist Church.
In addition to his mother, survivors include his wife, Sandra Shue Munson of Concord; a daughter, Pamela Munson and her husband Dave Medlin of Florence, S.C.; two grandchildren, Kacey Lauren Medlin and Sarah Brooke Medlin, both of Florence, S.C.; three brothers, Billy Munson and wife Brenda of Concord, Bobby Munson of Stanfield, and Donnie Munson and wife Brenda of Concord; two sisters, Deane Yow and her husband Steve of Locust, and Bonnie Kennedy and husband Roger of Kiawah Island, S.C.; six brothers-in-law, Bob Hatley, Gary Shue, Mike Shue, Tommy Shue, Steve Shue, and Rick Lewis; and six sisters-in-law, Betty Shue, Sylvia Shue, Sharon Hatley, Judy Shue, Gail Shue and Cathy Shue.

Mrs. Marie Smith
SALISBURY -- Marie Cauble Kearns Smith, 78, of Salisbury, died Sunday, Jan. 20, 2002, at Autumn Care of Salisbury, after an 18 month illness.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Chestnut Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Jerry Hollar, former pastor of Messiah Lutheran Church, will officiate.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 at Lyerly Funeral Home on S. Main Street in Salisbury.
Born Aug. 11, 1923, in Rowan County, she was the daughter of the late Beulah Goodman Cauble and Moses Apson Cauble. She was educated in Rowan County schools and was a retired waitress for Eddie's Delicatessen. She was a lifelong member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Salisbury.
Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her first husband, James H. Kearns, Sr., who died July 14, 1977, and her second husband, Rodney Arthur Smith, who died July 13, 1991.
Survivors include three sons, James H. Kearns, Jr., Jerry Wayne Kearns, Sr., and John David Kearns, all of Salisbury; three sisters, Ruth Ennis, Virginia Roberts, and Lucille Basinger, all of Salisbury; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Vedolia Suggs
KANNAPOLIS -- Vedolia Lucille Klatt Suggs, 77, a resident of Transitional Health Services of Kannapolis, and formerly of the Westbury Apartments in Concord, died Saturday, Jan. 19, 2002, at NorthEast Medical Center.
A service to celebrate her life will be conducted Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Jones Memorial United Methodist Church in Mooresville. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The Revs. Leo Fair and Doris Weddington will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the church.
Born April 23, 1924, in Fenton, Iowa, she was the daughter of the late Arnold Klatt and the late Beata Augusta Schneider Klatt. Mrs. Suggs worked as a bookkeeper and secretary for several companies in Raleigh, N.C. before moving to this area 16 years ago. She also worked as a waitress.
Her husband, Jarvis B. Suggs, preceded her in death.
Survivors include her daughter, Sondra Connelly and her husband Glenn of Mooresville; her son, Bill Holloway and his wife Jeanne of Mooresville; a sister, Vernona Ridge of Algona, Iowa; five grandchildren, Cynthia Plott and Ronnie Hill, both of Concord, N.C., Michael Hill of Rockwell, N.C., Barbie Dale of Spring Lake, N.C., and Brian Holloway of Mooresville, N.C.; three step-grandchildren, Robin Jones, Deeanne Parker and Dana Leazer, all of Mooresville; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Lewis Yow
CONCORD -- Lewis Rodgers Yow, 60, of Five Oaks Nursing Center, Concord, died Saturday, Jan. 19, 2002, at Five Oaks Nursing Center.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at West Concord Cemetery. The Rev. Kevin Hartsell will officiate.

Born Nov. 22, 1941, in Cabarrus County, he was the son of the late James Lewis Yow and Virginia Wilkerson Yow of Kannapolis. He was employed by Fuller Supply Co.
In addition to his mother, survivors include two sisters, Diane Y. Worley of Davidson and Geraldine Fisher of Landis; and two brothers, James Yow and Willard Yow, both of Concord.

Mrs. Jayne Guill
CONCORD — Jayne G. Guill, 76, a devoted mother, homemaker and friend, died Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2002, surrounded by her family and loved ones.
Mrs. Guill was born June 19, 1925, in Jacksonville, Fla., the daughter of J. Reid Green and Edith N. Green. She attended Girls High in Atlanta, Ga., and the University of Georgia in Athens.
She married Robert F. Guill in October of 1945. The family moved to Concord, N.C., in 1950. After residing in New Orleans, La., from 1973 to 1997, the family returned home to Concord, to enjoy their retirement among lifetime friends.
Mrs. Guill was an accomplished vocalist, avid gardener, gourmet cook and creative artist. She was a former president of the Concord Junior Charity League, a charter member of the Esoteric Study Club and a member of First Presbyterian Church in Concord.
She worked as a draftsman and freelance artist. While in New Orleans, she was a graphic designer for the Regional Planning Commission of Orleans Parish.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert F. Guill.
Survivors include her children, Reid Guill of Culver City, Calif., Ann Bebe Guill of Durham, N.C., and Rob Guill of Portland, Ore.; and her brother, Troy Green of Atlanta, Ga.
She is also survived by four grandchildren, Farrar Miles Williams of Alexandria, Va., Emily Jane Guill of Hollywood, Calif., Jonathan F. Williams of Athens, Ga., and Ellen Ann Guill of Culver City, Calif.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at First Prebysteran Church in Concord. The family will receive friends following the service.

ROCKWELL — Catherine Louise Steele Henderson, 78, of 1520 Shuping Mills Road, Rockwell, died Monday, Jan. 21, 2002, at Brian Nursing Center in Salisbury, after being seriously ill for five days.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Crown In Glory Lutheran Church in Salisbury. Burial will follow at Mount Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery. The Rev. Donald Anthony will officiate.

Born Nov. 30, 1921, in Cabarrus County, she was the daughter of the late Hazel and Pauline Steele. She was educated in the public schools of Cabarrus County and was a retired domestic worker. She was a member of Crown In Glory Lutheran Church, where she was a member of the food ministry, building ministry, Senior Citizens, choir, the Lutheran Women Missionary League and the adult Sunday School class.

Mr. Hubert Honeycutt, Sr.
BESSEMER CITY — Hubert Lewis Honeycutt, Sr., 78, of 1915 Hepzibah Church Road, Bessemer City, died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2002, at Presbyterian Hospital.
The funeral will be 4:30 p.m. Sunday at Harrisburg Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The Revs. Bill Clevenger, Ken Simmons, and Rodney Quesenberry will officiate.

Born Nov. 13, 1923, in North Carolina, he was the son of the late Ode Honeycutt and Mattie Honeycutt of Charlotte. Mr. Honeycutt was a member of the Derita Lodge #715 AF & AM and he was a Shriner. He was a self-employed truck driver and a member of Harrisburg Baptist Church. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Mr. Honeycutt was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Green Honeycutt, who died Sept. 3, 2001.
In addition to his mother, survivors include two sons, Jerry W. Honeycutt of Kings Mountain and Hubert L. Honeycutt, Jr. of Bessemer City; two daughters, Donna J. Robinson of Ozark, Ala., and Janet H. Price of Oklawaha, Fla.; a brother, Kenneth Honeycutt of Charlotte; two sisters, Betty Jo Duffel and Catherine Torrence, both of Charlotte; 10 grandchildren and seven great--grandchildren.
