Mrs. Marion N. Marlowe, 82, of Southport
Mrs. Marion Norment Marlowe, 82, of Southport, died Thursday, September 21, 2000, at Dosher Memorial Hospital.
A graveside service was conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, at Northwood Cemetery, with the Rev. William Rice officiating.
Serving as honorary pallbearers were members of Southport Fire Department.
Mrs. Marlowe was born January 31, 1918, in Southport, a daughter of the late George Leslie and Ina Winfree Norment.
She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband of 64 years, Edward Marlowe of the home; two daughters, Patricia Marlowe and Mary Lois Beheler, both of Southport; a son, George (Dickie) Marlowe of the home; a sister, Mary Lee Norment of Charlotte; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Margaret P. Wyatt, 57, of Caswell Beach
Mrs. Margaret (Peggy) Perkins Wyatt, 57, of Caswell Beach, formerly of Greensboro, died Sunday, September 24, 2000, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Wyatt was born in Marion, and was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. S.R. Perkins of Asheville.
She was a graduate of Salem College and lived in Greensboro, for 32 years.
Mrs. Wyatt was a member of Greensboro First Presbyterian Church, Junior League, Symphony Guild and the Eastern Music Festival Auxiliary.
After moving to Caswell Beach, she was involved in local volunteer activities.
She also was an editor and writer.
Survivors include her parents and husband, Robert R. Wyatt; daughter, Stephanie Wyatt Leo of Charlotte; two grandchildren, Hannah and Kate Leo; two brothers, Richard Morrison Perkins of Asheville and Thomas Randolph Perkins of Charlotte.
A memorial service will be held at Greensboro First Presbyterian Church, at a date to be determined.

Lewis Henry Trent, 69, of Supply
Lewis Henry Trent, 69, of Supply, formerly of Oak Island, died Thursday, September 21, 2000, at Brunswick Community Hospital.
Trent was born July 7, 1931, in Cumberland County, and was the son of Mrs. Moleta Auman Trent of Lincolnton, and the late Cleland M. Trent.
He was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church.
Trent owned and operated L&M Variety in Long Beach, and operated the post office in Long Beach, for five years.
He was a U. S. Army veteran.
Survivors in addition to his mother include his wife, Mildred S. Trent; two sons, Steve Phillips of Supply and Robert Shepard of Clover, S.C.; four daughters, Marsha Cochran of St. Pauls, Karen Shepard of the home, Sharon Jarvis of Gastonia, and Cynthia Doty of Ash; a brother, James Trent of Concord; two aunts, Velma McLawhorn of Denver, and Juanita Wallace of Troy; 22 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday, at Mt. Olive Baptist Church with the Rev. Anthony Clemmons officiating.
Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Active deacons of Mt. Olive served as pallbearers; honorary pallbearers were the grandsons.

Kathleen Hall Barber Barnes, 80, of Cary
Kathleen Hall Barber Barnes, 80, of Cary, died Friday, December 1, 2000, at her home in Cary.
Her funeral will be held Thursday at 1 p.m., at First Christian Church in Wilson, with Dr. Lynn White officiating.
Burial will follow at Maplewood Cemetery.
A memorial service was held Sunday at Glenaire in Cary; a second memorial service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m., at Trinity United Methodist Church in Southport.
Mrs. Barnes was born in Burlington, but lived in Wilson, Southport and Cary.
A graduate of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, her career as a school teacher and guidance counselor spanned more than 35 years.
She was an active member and officer of the Southport Woman's Club, Southport Garden Club, North Carolina Association of Educators and Alpha Delta Kappa professional sorority.
She was a former member of First Christian Church in Wilson, and a long-time member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Southport.
She is survived by her daughter, Sarah Barnes Barbee Whittington and husband Eddie J. Whittington of Cary; her son, James Thomas Barnes, Jr. and wife, Robin Leonard Barnes of Pine Knoll Shores; six grandchildren, Franklin P. Barbee, Jr. of Raleigh, Christopher T. Barbee of Greensboro, Tyson J. Whittington, Ashley H. Whittington, Heather M. Leonard and Lindsey K. Barnes.
Mrs. Barnes was preceded in death by her husband, James T. Barnes, the long-time manager of the Standard Products menhaden facility in Southport.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 11 a.m. to noon, at Thomas-Yelverton Funeral Service, 2704 West Nash Street, Wilson.

Mrs. Earline Rogers Garrish, 81, of New Bern and formerly of Southport, died Saturday, December 2, 2000, at Bayview Nursing Center, New Bern.
Graveside service was conducted at 1 p.m. Monday at Northwood Cemetery with the Rev. Ray Webb officiating.
Mrs. Garrish was born July 3, 1919, in Duplin County, a daughter of the late Roscoe and Eveline Rackley Rogers, and lived in Southport most of her life before moving to New Bern, in 1998.
She was a member of Beach Road Baptist Church, Live Oak Chapter of Order of Eastern Star, and formerly worked with Harrelson's Grocery.
She was the widow of David B. Garrish and is survived by a son, David Ray Garrish and wife Sylvia of New Bern; a sister, Lillie G. Morrill of Rock Hill, S. C.; two grandchildren, Jamison Garrish Parker and Jennifer Garrish Bialowas; two great-grandchildren, Alexis and Jordan.

Ed Vance Baldwin, Sr., 96, of Oak Island, died Saturday, December 2, 2000, in Dosher Memorial Hospital in Southport.
He was born in Columbus County, son of the late Amos Vance and Lucy High Baldwin.
He was widower of the late Eva Batten Baldwin.
He was a barber in Whiteville, for 40 years.
He was a member of Hallsboro Baptist Church.
The funeral service was conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, at Peacock's Chapel in the Pines, by the Rev. Ed Vogt.
Interment was in the Flynn Cemetery.
He is survived by a son, Ed Vance Baldwin, Jr. of Oak Island; a daughter, Agnes Long of Hallsboro; a sister, Jeraleen Little of Clarkton; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.

Harry Q. Simmons, Sr., 81, of Henderson
Harry Quinton Simmons, Sr., 81, of Henderson, died Friday, December 1, 2000, at his residence.
He was a retired county agent with N.C. State University's Cooperative Extension Service.
He served the extension service in Greene, Wake and Bertie counties, before moving to Vance County, in 1961.
He received the Distinguished Service Award in 1971.
After his retirement in 1979, he served for almost a decade as sales supervisor for the Henderson Tobacco Market.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in the Philippines and Japan.
A former resident of Newport, he attended Newport River Primitive Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Mildred Jewell Taylor Simmons of Henderson; sons, Harry Q. Simmons, Jr. of Caswell Beach, and Alva Taylor Simmons of Charlotte; a sister, Signa Rose S. Roberts of Newport.
The funeral service was held Tuesday, at Newport River Primitive Baptist Church, with elder J.M. Horne officiating.
Burial was in Amariah Garner Cemetery.

Michael Edward Woody, 47, of Winnabow, died Tuesday, November 28, 2000, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice Health Care Center.

Woody was born March 6, 1953, in Brevard, a son of the late Berlin and Mildred Smith Woody, and moved here 25 years ago from Gastonia.
A U.S. Navy veteran, he was employed as a plumber for 20 years and more recently, had worked as a retail merchandiser.
He attended New Hope Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include his wife of 23 years, Kimberly Neville Woody of the home; three brothers, James Woody of Goldsboro, Richard Woody of New Jersey, and John Palazzo of Wilmington; three sisters, Patricia Woody of Jacksonville, Donna Cook of Chadworth, Ga., and Susan Rinwick of Lincolnton; several nieces and nephews; and his faithful pup of 13 years, Toby Tyler.

Robert Joseph Whiting, 69, of Oak Island, died Sunday, December 3, 2000, at his residence.
The funeral mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. today (Wednesday), at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where he was a member, with Fr. Douglas Lawson officiating.
A prayer service was held at 8 p.m. Tuesday, at Peacock-Newnam Funeral Home, with deacon Eugene Gillis officiating.
Whiting was born September 21, 1931, in Ossining, N.Y., a son of Marie Granata Whiting and the late Leonard Whiting, and moved here in 1992 from Briarcliff Manor, N.Y.
A U.S. Marine Corps veteran, he was a retired sergeant with the Briarcliff Manor Police Department, a member of Oak Island Elks Lodge and Oak Island Golf and Country Club, and had been an active supporter and participant in youth league baseball programs.
He was preceded in death by a son, Michael Whiting, and is survived by his wife of 48 years, Frances Irving Whiting of the home; three sons, Thomas Whiting of Medway, Mass., James Whiting of New Fairfield, Conn., and John Whiting of Boston, Mass.; his mother, Marie G. Whiting of Holidaysburg, Pa.; two brothers, Leonard Whiting of Holidaysburg, Pa., and Richard Whiting of West Chester, Pa.; five grandchildren.
