Dr. Marvin Aldridge
GREENVILLE -- Dr. Marvin Aldridge, 78, died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2002.
The funeral service will be conducted Monday at 3 p.m. at Covenant United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Pinewood Memorial Park.
Dr. Aldridge, the only son of the late Marvin F. and Neva Warren Aldridge, was a native of the Epworth community of Craven County. He came to Greenville in the early 1940s to attend East Carolina Teachers College, where he played on the varsity baseball team, and was enjoined thereafter with the nickname "Henry."
He was a graduate of the Medical College of Virginia School of Dentistry, and later completed post-graduate periodontal training. His practice of both general and periodontal dentistry in Greenville spanned more than 50 years.
Dr. Aldridge was elected to the North Carolina House of Representative in 1994 and served two terms. Henry was a veteran of World War II. He served six years on the Greenville City Council, two years as Mayor Pro-Tem, president of the Pitt-Greenville Chamber of Commerce, president of Greenville Lion's Club, president of Greenville Boys Club, president and coach of Greenville Little League, president of ECU Alumni, president of the ECU Pirate Club, president of the 5th district Dental Society, president of the N.C. Society of Preventive Dentistry. He served on the boards of N.C. Family Policy Council and Carolina Pregnancy Center. He served as a sunday School teacher and lay leader at Jarvis Memorial United Methodist Church. Henry was a guest co-host on Carolina Today, WNCT-TV. He was awarded "The Friend of the Family" by the N.C. Family Policy Council, "Advocate for Latchkey Children" by the Little Willie Center, "1195 Defender of Life" by Pitt County Right to Life, and received numerous dental awards.
Henry, better known as "Pop" to his family, left a legacy to his children and grandchildren of unwavering faith and commitment to God and his family. He modeled strength, faith, integrity and joy of life. His family was always and forever will be blessed by his unconditional love and encouragement.
Henry Aldridge was a lifelong Methodist, and currently was an active member of Covenant United Methodist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy "Dot" Flye Aldridge in 1979.
Survivors include his wife, Susu Tuttle Aldridge; sons and their families, Mike and Sue Aldridge and children, Matt and wife Melissa, Chad and wife Courtney, Jordan and Josh, Jeff and Patti Aldridge and children, Scott, Myers, Molly and Anna, all of Greenville, Stephen and Lynda Aldridge and children, Wade and Leah of Orlando, Fla.; daughters and their families, Miri and Alex Wordsworth and children, Grey, Emily and Abby of Pineville, Susan and David Secrist and children, Nicholas, Lauren and Cate of Harrisonburg, Va.; stepmother, Mrs. M. F. Aldridge, mother-in-law, Mrs. Marler Slate Tuttle; brothers-in-law and their families, Slate and Jolynn Tuttle, John and Cindy Tuttle, all of Kannapolis; and sister-in-law and family, Margaret and Charlie Burlew of Tarboro.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Wilkerson Funeral Home.

Mrs. Alma Blackmon
CONCORD -- Alma Lee Blackmon, 87, of the 515 Lake Concord Road, died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002, at Avante Nursing Home in Concord.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church in Kannapolis. The Rev. P.C. Holland will officiate. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Lancaster, S.C.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 tonight at Bryant-Lytle-Young Funeral Home in Kannapolis. At other times, they will be at the home of Mr. David Blackmon, at 1105 Lakeview St. in Kannapolis.
Born Sept. 15, 1919, in Lancaster County, he was the son of the late Rex John J. and Martha Horton Blackmon. He was employed with Kannapolis City Schools and retired from Cannon Mills. He was a member of the Usher Board, Bethlehem Chapter of the Eastern Star, Missionary, Bible class, First Baptist Church and Sunday school class number 10. He attended prayer services and was a devoted Christian.
Survivors include a son, David M. Blackmon and wife Anita of Kannapolis; five grandchildren, Portia Lipscomb, Ni'ya Ellis, Tyrancha Clark, Devin Ellis and Da'nitra Ellis, all of Kannapolis; four nieces, Addie M. Funderburke of Buffalo, N.Y., Eunice Hair of Kannapolis, Eula Mae Crawford of Detroit, Mich. and Veola Hayden of Statesville; two nephews, Sammie L. Blackmon of Lancaster, S.C. and Freddie Blackmon of Statesville; and a host of other nieces and nephews.
Mr. Junior Goodman
CHINA GROVE -- Junior Lee Goodman, 74, of 1435 Saw Road, died Friday, Feb. 1, 2002, at his home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Hartsell Funeral Home Chapel in Concord. The Rev. Bobby Kemp will officiate. Burial will be at Carolina Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Hartsell Funeral Home in Concord. At other times the family will be at the home in China Grove.
Born Aug. 27, 1927, in Cabarrus County, he was the son of the late Gilbert Brantley and Bertie Ann Osborne Goodman. He was a steel worker at Eastern Stainless Steel. He was a member of Free Gospel Tabernacle in Edgemore, Md.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia Elizabeth Gray Goodman of China Grove; a son, Larry Lee Goodman of China Grove; a daughter, Jackie Elaine Goodman Hedrick of Forest Hill, Md.; five brothers, Ray Goodman, James Goodman, Robert Goodman, Fred Goodman and Jerry Goodman, all of Concord; two sisters, Peggy Carpenter and Sarah Freeman, both of Concord; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Mr. Floyd Honeycutt
KANNAPOLIS -- Floyd William Honeycutt, 85, of 501 Terrace Drive, died Friday, Feb. 1, 2002, at NorthEast Medical Center.
Services will be a 2 p.m. Monday at Linn Honeycutt Funeral Home in China Grove. The Rev. Bruce Graham and the Rev. Marvin Honeycutt will officiate. Burial will be at West Lawn Memorial Park.

Born Sept. 16, 1916, in Stanly County, he was the son of the late Riley and Mamie Furr Honeycutt. He was educated in Stanly County Schools and retired from Hilbish Ford, where he worked in the maintenance department. He was of the Baptist faith and served in the U.S. Navy.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret Jones Honeycutt of Kannapolis; two sons, Cullen Wilbanks of Kannapolis, and Lynn Wilbanks of Wahalia, S.C.; eight daughters, Edith Hoyt, Tammy Garmon and Martha Haynes, all of China Grove, Brenda McEicheran and Peggy Long, both of Salisbury, Barbara Dean Honeycutt and Nita Wilbanks, both of Kannapolis, and Anna Jean Tucker of Charlotte; seven brothers, Clifford Honeycutt, Marvin Honeycutt, Hugh Honeycutt, R.H. Honeycutt, A.P. Honeycutt, John Honeycutt and Coy Honeycutt, all of Cabarrus County; three sisters, Letha Smith, Zula Helms and Lois Smith, all of Cabarrus County; 30 grandchildren; and 35 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Arthur Jordan
KANNAPOLIS -- Arthur Lee Jordan, 88, of 718 Pleasant Ave., died Friday, Feb. 1, 2002, at Genesis Elderly Care in Mooresville. He had been ill for five months.
Services will be at 4 p.m. today at Bethel Baptist Church in Marshville. The Rev. Randy Davis will officiate. The body will lie in state for 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Whitley's Funeral Home.
Born April 3, 1913, in Union County, he was the son of the late Oscar and Lucy Tadlock Jordan. He was educated in Union County Schools and retired from Cannon Mills in 1979 as a cutter in the sheet department.
He was preceded in death on Aug., 29, 1987, by his first wife, Aillen Sims Jordan; and on Oct. 18, 2001, by his second wife, Evelyn Fielder Jordan.
Survivors include a daughter, Katie J. Robbins of Rockingham; three brothers, John Jordan of Simpsonville, S.C., Alvin Jordan of Matthews and Dwight Jordan of Marshville; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Ethel Miller
CONCORD -- Ethel Baker Miller, 95, of 1810 Concord Lake Road and a former resident of Spencer Ave., died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2002, at Transitional Health Care.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Wilkinson Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Tuesday at Wilkinson Funeral Home.
Born Dec. 20, 1906, in Cabarrus County, she was the daughter of the late John Lee and Minnie Griffin Baker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph F. "Cotton" Miller; and by a son, Donald B. Miller.
Survivors include a son, Jack Miller of Palm Harbor, Fla.; two grandchildren, Kelly M. Crawford and Mitch Miller; six great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

CONCORD -- Dwight Marshall Motley, 56, of 65 Creswell Drive, died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2002, at Five Oaks Nursing Center.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today at Robert UMC Cemetery. The Rev. Scott Davis will officiate.

Born April 23, 1945, in Cabarrus County, he was the son of the late Mary Furr and David Alexander Motley.
Mr. Ralph Ritchie
KANNAPOLIS -- Ralph Dearmon Ritchie, of 404 Locust St., died Friday, Feb. 1, 2002, at Transitional Health Services of Kannapolis.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Hartsell Funeral Home Chapel in Concord. The Rev. Johnny Canup and the Rev. Carl Howard will officiate. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Concord.
The family received friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Hartsell Funeral Home in Concord. At other times, they will meet at the residence.
Born Sept. 20, 1924, in Mecklenburg County, he was the son of the late Robert Lee and Ora Tarlton Ritchie. He was a self employed carpenter and served in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of Harrisburg Baptist Church in Harrisburg.
Survivors include his wife, Frances Irene Lambert Ritchie of Kannapolis; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Mr. Charles Tate
CONCORD -- Charles Edward Tate, 81, of 1200 Cox Mill Road, died Friday, February 1, 2002, at the V.A. Medical Center in Salisbury. He had been in declining health for five years.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Parkwood Baptist Church. The Rev. Darrell Coble and the Rev. Steve Davis will officiate. Burial will be at Carolina Memorial Park in Kannapolis.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at Hartsell Funeral Home in Concord. At other times, they will be at the residence.
Born March 10, 1920, in Catawba County, he was the son of the late David Julius and Cordelia Stamey Tate. He was a road construction superintendent at C.G. Tate Construction in Concord. We was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was an active member of Parkwood Baptist Church and the N.C. Men's Baptist Disaster Relief Association.
He was preceded in death by one grandson, John Michael Thomas II.
Survivors include his wife, Frances McGinnis Tate of the home; two sons, David Franklin Tate and wife Janice Almond Tate of Concord, and Charles Edward Tate II of Bessemer City; a daughter, Kay Thomas and husband John M. Thomas of Concord; a brother, James P. Tate of Bessemer City; two sisters, Violet Anthony and Joan Snipes of Lincolnton; three granddaughters, Ashley Dupont and husband Eric, April Jennings and Katelyhn Isabelle Tate; a grandson, Cody Edison Tate; and two great-grandchildren, Grace Ann Dupont and Rylan Nichole Jennings.
